  1. Thanks dude! I'll be posting as it starts going together. It'll probably start out fairly quickly (my type of quick anyhow) as I'm at a good hold point on my Eliminator and I want to get rid of the body so I've got less stuff just sitting in the way... actually got the body off of the pan this morning and is currently for sale! I'm going away for the weekend and I'm hoping I can come back to someone wanting this thing.
  2. '74... the body is unbelievably solid for being a Minnesota car. There is just a bit of surface rust on the roof, the spare tire well is rotted in the front, and the quarter panels behind the doors are kinda soft right above the running boards... a good body for someone anyhow! I'm going to separate the pan from the body right away just to get rid of what I don't need. There's a local guy too who I've delt with in the past that I'm hoping to trade the body for a good engine. Can't wait to start on this one!
  3. Everything worked out without any issues... ON TO THE NEXT PROJECT!!!
  4. Okay... so now I've got the bumper back on and a few more smaller things taken care of. I had a problem with my taillights and ended up needing to replace the main harness end of the plug. While I was in there, I wired in my trailer harness. Also added some paint to the light bar and cut off all the useless tabs on the mounts. Still need to get the rest of the lights.
  5. Found this truck in the junkyard the other day and the interior really stood out. It is very complete and in pretty good shape still! If anybody needs anything specific let me know. Image Not Found

1988, MJ, Pioneer Image Not Found 4.0 / 5 speed / Dana 35 / LWB Build date: Illegible Mileage: 199872 Current Location: Sauk Rapids, MN Status: Junkyard Notes: Not a whole lot special about this truck as far as options. It is still a very complete truck especially the interior. I thought long and hard if I wanted to pull the entire interior out of it or not! Burgundy, bench seat, original radio... very dirty, but still in awesome shape! Current owner: Country Side Auto Parts

1988, MJ, Eliminator 4.0 / 5 speed / Dana 35 / SWB Build date: Illegible Mileage: 200272 Current Location: Sauk Rapids, MN Status: Junkyard Notes: Not a whole lot special about this truck. No options at all as far as I saw. Not a bad looking truck over all... lots of good parts left on it. Current owner: Country Side Auto Parts
  8. Hu... never found this before! Sauk Rapids Minnesota :waving:
  9. Those roof rack mounts work out sweet and easy for making up light racks if you're into that look. Cheap Jeeps are just fun, aren't they? Always know when you're got a good one when it costs more to put a set of tires on it than the original cost of the Jeep. Nice job on all of your projects!
  10. I'll see some day... still want to get out to your side of the country!!
  11. I tried mounting my 33s, but nevermind on leaving them under this guy... I figured I might be able to do it, but I'm not about to start cutting up the flairs like I did on my gray truck and I just wasn't feeling the look. Oh well, they're for sale over in the classifieds for a screamin' deal! Shameless self promotion? Why not!
  12. Thank dude!... but, no, it's not a real Manx. I actually have no idea what it is and neither does anyone else! From the front, it looks kinda like an EMPI Imp but is over all too short, a manx from the rear but comes down too low, and something completely unique from the side. I've found a spot by the battery box that at one time had a manufacturer's plate but is now just a shiny spot with broken off rivets. At one time, I did find another just like it online but he was trying to find out who build it too. Should be a fun build though... even if I build up a stock 80 horse 1600cc for it, these cars still only weigh around 1200 pounds! :driving: On a side note, talking to the guy on the phone was a little to "parallel universe" for me! His name is Ben (same as me), started off being into VWs (same as me), and now has shifted more towards Jeeps but still loves these little cars (der... same as me)!!! I asked if he'd be interested in my 33s for sale but he asked, "What for? I run 38s on my DD!!". Needless to say, he wasn't into it but the tires are for sale regardless.
  13. That's what I'm trying to avoid!
  14. Don't know if you want one with lights flush mounted into it, but I've got a visor without. It's got a few little knicks here and there, but the fiberglass doesn't have any cracks in it. 15. Mod edit: Moved, combined, edited... now back to this regular scheduled thread. So I'm looking into getting a parts donor for my VW Dune Buggy. I've had the fiberglass body for about seven years now... it was a high school graduation present from me to me! Since then, it's been stored under my parents deck way too out of sight and out of mind. The plan is to use this car for the frame, drivetrain, and title. Here's the problem though: the guy who has the car has had it for a couple years now, he has the title for it, but he never sent it in saying that he bought the car from the previous owner. Now, the previous owner did fill out their part, but the current owner did not. This would be a perfect candidate for my next project. The price is right, it's in my area, the car is complete... everything on the car would just work. Would there be any problems if I just filled in my name as the buyer on the title? I know that it would be "skipping title", but I really want this deal to work. Would he need to fill out his end of the title before I can work with him or is this more of a moral decision over what the state needs to know? What do you guys think?
  16. Here's what I do... once all three bolts are out, then come from the backside and put a socket extension in between the u-joint and the cast end of the axle. Then start the truck and turn the wheel... pops right out everytime! It'll pull the whole axle out with the hub, but I just put the unit in a bench vise and give the axle a few taps and it too pops right out. Before putting it all back together, it might be a good idea to give the knuckle a little anti-seize where the unit bearing seats. Something else to try anyway... hope this may help too!
  17. My brother had a '90 YJ and all of my friends had 2wd Rangers and S10s. The YJ had the 4.2 and I thought that engine was the coolest thing... who would have thought, an INLINE 6?!?! My friends never had any problems loading up sandbags in the winter, so I figured I could get by with a 2wd truck too. So I wanted a truck. Not finding a cheap enough Ranger (had to have the 4 cylinder!). I was working in housekeeping at a hospital at the time and I was so determined to find a truck to the point that I would sneak off to the hospital's resource center while my floors were drying. I did the AutoTrader and the CarSoup thing and for whatever reason I tried looking at Jeeps (they've got that crazy engine, right?!). First one on the list: 1988 Jeep Comanche Eliminator. I called the guy up, he said the first $750 takes it. Yeah, I'd be happy with a 2wd truck, right?.......... right.........
  18. What about having the tires removed from the wheels? Can a chemical stripper be used without separating the two?
  19. Gave it a new face.
  20. Anyone know the best way to get all of the old and peeling clear coat off of an aluminum wheel? Thanks everyone!
  21. OOPS!!! I forgot to ask if anyone knew of a good way of refinishing aluminum wheels :dunno: . Not forgotten... just forgot to explain them! Eventually, it'll get the same 33s that were on my old gray truck. Still, I don't want the black wheels so they would need to be refinished as well.
  22. I've had a few good days to work on the truck: finished up some of the wiring, I added a kill switch on the side of the console, made up a switch panel in front of the shifter, got my radio in (no more open holes in the dash!), "sorta" finished the front (not sure if I dig the black just yet), and a bunch of little stuff that just needed wrapping up. Yay! Poser shots!
  23. Here's one that he shortened the wheelbase along with the box sides: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=19078&p=195132&hilit=shorter+wheelbase#p195132
  24. Thanks dude! I actually asked my neighbors that were outside while I was working on it for their opinion on the centering of the wheel (I live on a block full of older folks, my wife and I probably bring the average age down to early 50s... they think I'm cool). The vote was unanimous. I also put it over as far as I could so if I've got a trailer behind it, then I can still drop it down if I've got to open the tailgate. I appreciate the opinion! Thanks for looking!
