  1. How much drop do you want? If you use the rear coils out of a ZJ it should be good for about 2" of drop... I think. Can someone verify this?
  2. I had a visitor yesterday! I sold a bunch of black interior parts to automan2164 and he brought up some CC digs... thanks again Rob!
  3. I did something similar only with a center in/offset out muffler. Mine did hang a bit lower so the exhaust tilts up a bit at the tranny crossmember to help. Kept it higher than the frame and the fuel tank. If cost is an issue, I went to an exhaust shop and purchased 10' of tubing, had 3' cut off and had some bends put in it to work with, and just an off-the-shelf performance muffler... about $50 invested.
  4. Grounds: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25715 More to look into anyhow...
  5. rich corinthian leather
  6. For the lack of trouble it would be to go around and drill all of the welds and swap with donor metal, I'd keep it under the hood for a more factory look... not to mention airflow on the front of the truck and the prime real-estate in any pickup bed.
  7. ...was the plan... yeah. For now, the 31s are still brand new so I'll just run those until it needs tires again. Then it'll grow up.
  8. Finally got around to doing something about those nasty, yellowed wheels. I ended up using a bit of aircraft stripper, 600 and 800 grit wet sanding, and a few coats of clear. Granted, they aren't perfect, but they do look way better than they did! I'm diggin' them anyhow.

  11. Depending on what kind of condition your 2.8L is (and the fact that it is a 2.8L), and take into account your electrical gremlins, maybe it'd be a good time to look into a 4.0L swap? :dunno: There are plenty of good XJs out there just begging to be plucked of good parts! In our area, you can find a whole rig for around $500 in good, running condition. Swap the whole harness, engine, trans... the whole meal deal.
  12. So I'll trash my driveshaft too? This truck is mostly just used as a truck. You'll also notice that I didn't cut down my 8.25" axle... that also will drag and be a rock catcher what with the 31s. I'm more the type that'll avoid the difficult trails and ride along in someone else's rig. Trails are fun and all, but I'm just not that aggressive offroad.
  13. Yeah... I thought that too when I was getting it all mocked up but it does tuck up higher than the frame and the fuel tank.
  14. Thanks for resurrecting my build! The mounts for the light bar are recycled from a Yakima roof rack that came with a parts XJ I got a while ago. It clamps into the drips rail and it's easy to remove. The 4.6L... no issues with fitting as it started life as the same 4.0L that came with the truck. Tranny is a stock unit and the driveshaft is a custom fit unit. I had a one piece shaft from a late '60s chevy half ton pickup cut down as it used the same u-joints and is a much heavier wall tubing. A local shop in town did all the work for me (dropped it off in the morning and it was ready to go the same day!): cut it, shortened, welded, balanced, and painted... very happy with the result. Thanks for the compliments, dude! Hopefully it'll make it out of the garage sometime soon... maybe some work on the wheels to clean them up? Stay tuned...
  15. If you want to build your own front bumper, you have to start with good mounts: Make them long so you can trim them down later... this will determine how far forward the bumper will be and also will be a great place to add a tow point. Once you have a good mount, the sky is the limit! Flat plate is easy to work with and make whatever shape you want. Tubing is also a good way to go. I know you don't have access to a press brake in your diesel shop, but you can also have sheet steel formed into shape. Easiest way, I think, is taking a few pictures of the front of your truck at different angles. From there make a few copies and start drawing some lines. Pictures and paper are easier to work with and faster to repair if you make a mistake!
  16. Handsome machine for sure! Congratulations on COTM and on the truck itself. Great job!
  17. The answer to your question is in the second post. The one right above your question. YES, they fit. Colors may not be the same, but they fit. I thought that the '97+ doors had the inner door handle in a different location. :dunno:

  19. Awesome to the extreme! I had to go scrounging through my old stuff to find that CD... skipped through... skipped through... there it is! Totally found its rightful place in the visor CD holder (yeah, people still use those). Also some songs to get the blood pumping (already on a mix CD from years ago... yeah people still make those): 1.) The Revels: Comanche http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPD0d-7UTP8 -Bad @$$ song for when you're working on anything or for trying to make your way though busy traffic 2.) Johnny Horton: Comanche (The Brave Horse) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcWevSHrbiA -Honestly, I think this is a way better song to choose if there was ever a "Comanche Song" just based on lyrics alone.
  20. ^Thanks for clearifying that! On a side note, the title on this one came back just fine without any issues.
  21. Maybe someday... for now the stock 1600cc is all that it is going to need. Besides, 48s on a 1600? The poor thing would drown!!!
  22. Been a little while since I've updated this, but stuff has been getting done! Floors are done as well as modified brackets and stock seats out of a 2003 Sunfire. Pedals, completely custom shifter, and an engine are in place as well. The engine is a stock 1600cc that I picked up from a guy who had it mounted behind his trike. Fortunately, he let the exhaust go with the engine so I can start to figure out all of the tube work. Seats are very comfortable and have deep side supports. Now that it's starting to look and feel like a car, I'm totally guilty of sitting in it and just looking at everything more than I should. Besides that, it's like sitting in a space ship looking over the hood! Engine... gotta love those trumpets! Very proud of the groovy shifter and center console. All in all, I'm into this project $760.
  23. Shipping cost quoted.
  24. I used fender washers inside and out when I put them back on my Eliminator... I know that I have the metal braces but all of the studs are twisted off.
