  1. Exactly. My intake cracked, and got to looking at the intake from the donor engine from an s10, and wondered if there was a carb that would work, because the OE carb is far to complicated and i want to do away with as much emissions and vacuum as possible, to hopefully get as much life as possible out of the 2.8. I don't want to buy a different intake specifically for a carb because they cost more than what i've got into this engine, and i can't justify spending money on a performance intake on a crap engine, but i may look into having an adapter made for this intake to mount a motorcraft 2 barrel i have off an old dodge 318
  2. So the intake on my 2.8 cracked..and i can get it repaired cheap, but i have a fuel injected intake, and was wondering if anyone knew of a carb that would bolt on to the fuel injection intake? Next question, does anyone know what this ground is for? Its back of the cab, passenger side. And lastly, whats this pink wire? Driver side B pillar
  3. No oil in the airbox, but the throttle body was full of oil. Also, what does pinging mean? And does anyone have any experience with the plenum replacement?
  4. yea thats what I'm afraid of. hopefully i didnt fry any cylinders or the heads...5 misfires at once scares me. this projects going to the back burner though, mj is closer to being driveable. any thoughts on anything i can check before pulling the intake?
  5. Yea, still starts no problem, but when its running it fights to stay running. Sounds plugged up, plus a rattle, sounds lower end/tranny area. Throttle body is full of oil which is why i think the plenum finally went? Also if it helps any i can look at my obd2 scanner and find out all the specifics of when it through the codes

  7. Sunday night, drivin my dd 97 Dodge Ram home, on the highway when it wouldnt shift. KInda normal since it needs the speed sensors replaced, backed off the gas, then accelerated again which usually makes it shift, only instead it bogged down and started clunking, like if you run out of gas. Got it pulled over, tried starting it again, and it sounds like the intake and tailpipe are clogged. pulled the airbox, looked in the throttle body and it looks like its full of oil. Ran diagnostics to see what codes it threw. P0300-Random Misfire P0302- Cylinder 2 misfire P0303- Cylinder 3 misfire P0304- Cylinder 4 misfire P0307- Cylinder 7 misfire. As far as i can tell, all this happened at the same time at 58mph, Anyone have any idea what happened? My best guess is the plenum disintegrated but i don't know.
  8. After 16 months of trying to make mine driveable, i took it to the gas station for the first time on my way to get an inspection and the intake cracked. Ive NEVER driven mine except literally around the block to test it
  9. Side looks good...inside looks good. Needs a V8, because it looks like it needs to go fast, quickly. But dear god...headlights? wtf were they smoking?
  10. wouldnt 2 of the switches be for power locks? Because the pass door has 2 switches?

  13. yep, had one we were scrapping, part of the metal made a bracket for an electric fuel pump, and part of its wiring now wires my fuel pump! also, it makes people as questions ;)

So I was thinking about it while modifying a ranger rear bumper to fit my mj until I find a design i like to fab one, and got to wondering how many vehicles have sacrificed parts to make your mj what it is today? As of right now, mine has parts from 3 mjs, 4 or 5 xjs, an s10, an s15, a blazer, a dodge ram, a ford ranger, a kubota tractor, and a washing machine.
  15. is there any difference beween the 86 and 88 mj radio harness? all the adapters i can find say 88 and newer, and my mj didnt have a radio when i bought it

    Its nice...after fighting it with this and that for so long, I feel like it loves me as much as i love it . :MJ 1: . finishing up the exhaust tonight, and since my dads a tire man, going through him to get some tires put on it, then licensing it...and the skys the limit! Also. The MJ is my first manual. I taught myself in the span of roughly 3 minutes how to drive it after that video ended. I don't know if its because its just fun, or because its the jeep, but i feel like i've been missing out driving all the autos everywhere :driving:

    Sorry for yelling at ya'll with the title, but after ~16 long months of smashed fingers, rust in my eye, hard lessons, and swearing, my MJ is driveable! Proof http://s1112.beta.ph...cb63dc.mp4.html So excited, my first jeep, second vehicle, and its an MJ! runs pretty good now, can't help but buzz around the block when i have to pull out of the driveway to turn around, any excuse is good enough! Anyway, coolest thing to happen to me in a long while, excited as all get out to get it licensed and on the streets, just had to share!

  19. Another way to tell is the column shifter, as far as i know, xj's never had column shifters. Also, good lookin shepherd!

  21. about your wiring, i understand that the guages won't work, but why not just get a novak harness adapter and then swap your guages? seems simpler to me, but i also don't completely understand all the differences between the electronic systems in the 86 mj and the zj
  22. Any news on Betty? Real interested in doing this swap, I have an 86 with the 2.8 in it, and want something without a million vacuum and emission hoses, and I have a thing for mopar v8s
  23. I just swapped an engine out of a early 90s s10 into my 86. In hindsight I shoudlve just bit the bullet and swapped in the 4.0 and aw4 from a parts xj i had, wouldve been much simpler. Interested to see how this works since the 86's are pretty oddball imo
