  1. Find a reputable engine builder in your area. Local to me- $1,680 for a rebuilt 2.5, +tax and core. If you are going to have yours rebuilt, it will be a two week process. You pull, break down, clean parts, take block and head to machine shop, research and shop for new parts, order.....wait on shop.......get parts.....begin rebuild.....etc...... So, you'll need time and a garage and tools.....hoist and engine stand....etc.. and KNOWLEDGE! Bottom line cost? on the cheap side- $2300. There will always be the unforeseen- new mounts? new starter? new cables? new clutch?........etc........... You'll get a good 100-150K miles out of it.
  2. I dropped my front axle for the 4-5 time last night. The word/phrase 'b*@$£' was definitely overused.
  3. I've guessing these are the Bushwackers? This is the direction I want to go......any experiences? and I take it fenders get trimmed?
  4. I've done the searches. Anyone have a definitive conclusion on the best fitting, correct fitting, flares? Any pics? Thank you.
  5. Thanks, yeah, I'm liking it more and more. Drives SUPER nice too, completely different ride. Wheel and tire are heavy and they seem to settle the suspension down a lot. Nittos are nice tires, smooth and quiet.
  6. I tried a couple of times to get some info regarding off-set vs backspacing....etc..... Jeepman stated that he went +10 and if he had to do it again he would go +20 +20 takes you to 5.75 backspacing. I have no idea how he gets by at +10. I went +1 and have 5.0 backspacing. Perfect.
  7. The very end of the flare as it turns around to the front valance. I have the axle out at this very moment, adding the ACOS system. I'll fix it!
  8. Wheels are 18x9 and tires are 285/60/18
  9. New engine isn't in yet.....squeezing every mile out of this one.Good deal man. Due to a mini stroke a week ago, I got a couple friends coming next weekend to help pull mine out to rebuild.Who ground your camshaft? Mines s Clay Smith RV grind. Mine is a Melling. Sorry about the stroke, are you going to recover?
  10. New engine isn't in yet.....squeezing every mile out of this one.
  11. I appreciate that. :) The reason I struggled with a wheel decision is that I limited myself to a specific tire size. Once that got narrowed down, the next category was a selection of wheel that no ones has....IOWs to be set apart, to be different. When I'm done, my truck will be uniquely mine.
  12. Yeah, I admit, that's funny. :P
  13. I can always move it again. Ain't nothing but a thang.

    Show-off

Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found I'm lifting the front one more inch tomorrow night. Sometime in the next week I'll clean her up and take better pics for the build thread. I gave the wife three wheels to choose from......I think she made the right choice. :)
  15. They've had better than 5 months to settle......they are done.
  16. BTW- There is a thread here recently, I believe it was the krustynuts guy with the new brackets....... Someone put the brackets up to 3 MJs........IIRC...........and all the holes where slightly off a bit. Maybe someone could find that thread or post. EDIT: Never mind.....I can't find it....maybe it was something to do with LWB vs SWB or something.
  17. Yes, he should redrill the holes. If he goes to a 1/2" rather than the metric size hole.....they will likely all line up. This ain't rocket science. And yes, I was addressing the OP.
  18. DS was shoved all the way in and I've always been concerned about it......was measured and built for the D35......now 8.25 GS standard springs.
  19. Any of you have one? I'm digging it. Just looking for quality and fit experience. Any others like it?
  20. I think you mean to say "drill the brackets you have to match the bumper" or something like that? Personally, I would buy brackets that fit with out the need to drill more holes. My rear wheels were not perfectly centered in the wells. I'm paying $2000 for new wheels and tires. I want my wheels centered. Tonight I dropped my new leafs. Measured 7/8 out from center on the bottom of the perches. I drilled new 9/16 holes in the bottom of the perches and moved the axle back 7/8". Now my wheels are perfectly centered and tomorrow I get my new tires. Point is- Some of us (DO) what needs to be done. Others just b*@$£ and whine about what needs to be done.
  21. Anyone own a drill and a drill bit?
