  1. Now, that would be cool. I wonder if advance adapters has what is needed for the swap? Those ricer boys would never know what hit 'em!
  2. You can buy a heck of a lot of car for 13ish big ones. I hate new vehicles though. *Shakes fist at yuppies with H2s* I recommend you get an AMC Eagle Wagon. The 4wd model. Little bastards don't die. And it's basically a Liberty without the bling and it'll only cost $300.
  3. Mmmm, J-truck *drools* Nice XJ. Have fun swapping dashes! That's something I've not yet done, and don't feel like. Good luck wit your project! Oh, and nice third-gen. I always wanted one of those, but the heep came first. Oh, I forgot, samurais are puswah.
  4. Yeah, cherokees and comanches are boxy, round things just don't look good one them, IMHO. I'd thought of building a stepside for one, and I think I could make that work too, but that's way more work. That yota is similar to what I want to build in my mind... I'd make a more functional roll bar though. Oh yeah, I now have a gas tank that's not falling off, so that's progress. I'd have the driveshaft in too, but the Ford dealership only had three of the four bolts I needed. Which is retarded, as they were used quite a bit on every vehicle from about 97 up, I think.
  5. There's no eco-fee to return the tires here, don't know if you have one. I think they actually get something for the recyclable rubber. But I think they want it to roll just to get it on the flatbed easier... There is one guy who would do it, but I can't find him or his number. He's one of those crusher guys. This is so annoying though! It's just got to roll and be able to be winched up onto the tilt bed. I've contemplaited those dollies that you're supposed to put under tires and some blocks of wood perhaps.
  6. Tell me how it does if you get a cross wind. That's the only thing I'd be worried about.
  7. They won't take it unless it rolls... That and I don't want to drag it across the garage floor. I just need something I can slide under it to push it around. I guess I could get a frame welded up with some wheels on it...
  8. Welcome to the addiction.
  9. Well, the time has come for me to get rid of the 86. It is infested with black widows and has most likely nothing of value to me. Problem is I took the leaf springs out, and all the front steering. I'm contemplaiting grabbing the 2wd front axle to for the brake parts, and if I upgrade from my D30 in the future I'll have a 'template' so to speak for the arm mounts. SO how the heck am I supposed to move it without axles? All the people I've phoned have been like "Nope, gotta be on tires" but I figure as long as it's a roller I can get it on the flatbed that the wrecker (the one I've made rich) can haul it away. So, how should I go about doing this? I've got two D35s that I was going to sell, but don't really care for the hassel, so, should I just slip them under there and use a liberal amount of duct tape to make things work? Or is there a wayyyyyy better way? Yeah, not really tech, but w/e.
  10. If you build a flatbed, post pics! I'm still in the absorbing information/ideas stage before I build mine. And I don't know of anybody that makes patch panels, but depending how bad it is I'd cut out the rockers and weld in square tube so you have rock proof rockers.
  11. The first one of those is sweet. (Not crazy about that tiny headache rack, roll bar, or whatever the hell you wanna call it) Needs another 2" of lift in the back though. Heck, I just finished telling some kid on jeepforum that a dually would look really stupid. Shows what I know! But he wanted to do it with the stock box. (Maybe he wasn't a kid either, hmm, hope he wasn't older than me.) The second, now that would fit in around here. Well, it would have fit in 5 years ago. Other than it doesn't have a gun rack. Pitty. I'm trying to figure out what would 'feel' like a Comanche yet still be funtional. I predict a lot of my time that I'm supposed to be listening in class is going to be diverted into drawing diagrams of flatbeds! I think I'm going to make it so the sides are removable, and possibly try to work a cut down version of the tailgate in. I'd rather not lose that logo. I should get out there and take a bunch of measurements actually, just so I know exactly what I have to play with. Actually building it will be in the distant future though, I'm just gonna slap some taillights on it and put a crossmemeber in for the gas tank so I can drive 'er around. I miss driving the damn girl. Oh, on a final note: "My Shaft's a Woody" - just need some bolts and I'll be almost 4wd again!
  12. I'd show you pics, but the bed mounts are simple. there's 6 and then 2 other quasi-body mounts. The spare tire crap has to be pulled off. The ebrake cable bracket has to be dropped. Then the ugly part - the gas tank is mounted TO THE BED! So, you have to undo the j-bolt (support the tank first, please) and undo the hoses that hold the tank to the bed. Depending on how much rust you have, that can be a lot of fun. Took me most of the day to take mine off, but that's because I'm retarded and forgot to undo the spare tire winch, and thus had to wait for another oppertunity for enough people to be around to lift it off. If you take the tailgate off, two moderatly strong people can lift it. I didn't bother with that. Don't think I forgot anything, I've had my bed off too long.
  13. Well, after cutting apart some more of my box, I'd decide I want to ditch it. There's not much left that's in acceptable shape. I supposedly could weld up the problems and stick it back on, but I don't really want to. So, anybody build a flatbed? I know of one good tutorial on pirate4x4 (I think it was there) for a FSJ. But has anybody here done it for a Comanche? Looks straight foreward enough to me. I'm just looking for ideas and such I guess. Oh yeah, any pics? Maybe I should go cruise some 'yota boards :? They seem to like building flatbeds. Although, they half-@$$ everything. Edit: The tutorial/how to I was talking about is on 4x4 wire actually, and is for a J-10, but it serves my purpose as a starting point. Edit again: I fixed my tcase/SYE if anybody cares. Now to fix the vac disco and I can move 'er around again. 'Nother edit: Anybody have CAD drawings, or even good side shots that are high contrast that I can mess with to attempt to find a look that I like? I mean of a stocker. Or something with a flatbed. Maybe I should hit up google.
  14. Might want to check all the body (bed) mounts to make sure none have come loose. There's 6, if memeory serves me. I don't think mine ever did something like that, but how could I tell with all the rust?
  15. Looks good, I like that silver colour. And you have no rust! Mud's a nice touch too, no Jeep is complete without it. What size tires are on the XJ? (If you posted it, I missed it)
  16. Get pictures of that. There's people who believe they don't exist. (The 4.56s that is) Although I hear all 2.5/AW4s came with them?
  17. I had two buckets out of a 4 door cherokee, just put the brackets off the comanche bench on them. The drivers seat was f'd though, so I got a new one out of a 2dr cherokee. It sits high than the ones out of the 4dr, which sat higher than the bench. I think I might mess with it to see if I can get it to go down some. Of course, not like it matters when you own a garage queen.
  18. Then you want full time. With part time, if you say, lose traction while braking or going around a corner, generally you will with all the tires. Well, that's what I hear, and I think that I could agree as I've drove mine in harsh winter ice. Also you are technically only supposed to use it 'part time' which I never bother with, just don't turn corners and you're okay! Only disadvantage of the 242 I know of is the SYEs for it might suck. I'm not sure. Never looked into swapping mine as I didn't blow up my 231 before I got the SYE for it.
  19. Mine's been out only 1.5 months now... I can't imagine 3 years. Of course I'm not swapping the front AND rear... Bloody addiction!
  20. They don't make the axle weaker, just it sucks when you break the shaft. As in, break the shaft, nothing holds it and the tire in place anymore... You can still limp on a snapped shaft with them, it just gets creative. Don't highway drive it like that though...
  21. Hmm, I forgot to put the mode spring in  I'll rebuild the sucker once I'm back from vacation.
  22. I looked at some vac disco diagrams, and I think I can plug them without issue. These were dodge diagrams though, so I might crack out the fsm and see if I can find the diagrams for me. I think I'll give this a try: http://home.earthlink.net/~stevenschreiber/jeep/tech/cabledis.htm If it breaks, I'll go to one peice. Besides, having random extra levers in your cab is cool. Hmm, seems the AA kit didn't come with straps for the new yoke. I feel gypped. Maybe it's because it's 1:43am and I'm hopped up on redbull, and thus can't find them...
  23. Mine are at least two inches out... and it's the passanger's side that's higher. I think it'll settle after I get some weight on it and drive it around. It's probably because I mix'n'matched two sets of stock packs to make mine and I used the top leaf from one set on one side and the top from the other on the other side. The one pack might have been flattening, or something, as the shackle on it had a different rest angle. If it doesn't settle and I can't stand it, I'll do the bushings. Also, I think these things are built a little out of kilter because all the roads are sloped from drainage, and thus they are aligned weird to make up for that. I guess I could check the fsm dimensions and see what it says. Mine has also been in numerous accidents, so it might be a bit out from that too. Heck, I should just stop worring about it. Oh, I just destroyed the vac disco plug for the tailshaft housing. Is it needed? I mean, I'm going to either swap to the one peice shafts or a cable system as the front vac lines aren't gonna reach. So, can I just plug the mother up and use the AA provided plug for the tailshaft housing and call it good? Maybe I should read into this.
  24. I don't have a Sears, even though 95% of my tools are from them. It sucks, if I break them I gotta drive 1.5 hours to get to a sears dealer. But hey, I got most of my tools free from my uncle, so I can't complain. I split the case, figured it out in like 2 minutes, gotta go seal the mother up again... My rears aren't even... Think I need to get new shackles and replace the bushings at the rear of the leaves... Grrr.
  25. I don't even remember what I payed, it was in US and therefor I didn't even want to think about it. It would have been like $270 cnd or something. I don't think I'd be able to break this thing though, unless I set it up wrong. I'd say I'm happy with it even though I haven't got it in yet. Looks pretty much identical to that other one, other than the tailhousing is a wee bit different. Ohwell, can't send it back now, can I? That and shipping would kill the difference. Yeah, I just asked in the feeble hope I could save some time, I had better go back and do it right.
