  1. Running an engine to cool will hurt it, jeeps normally stock run a 195 degree thermostat at least my wrangler 4.0 does. I dropped in a 180 degree which just slight brings it off the 210 temp it normally runs giving me a little piece of mind. When I really work the motor it will still get to 210 but drop back off when I'm done. I like running the jeep a little cooler then 210 but I'm not making a big jump from stock.
  2. i knew someone would mention this here.
  3. Both are 88s and 2 wheel drive 1JTMW66T3JT094328 6cyl is a long bed with a bed topper, cream interior, just got put in the yard sept 22 and is still very together. The bed on the driver side is crunched in on the front pretty good. the driver side has quite a bit of rust right above the fender. The tailgate is in decent condition but has some rust up near the top. The lights arent bad but can see where they are starting to crack (theyd be good if you absolutely need them they were one reason i ran out there but am looking for some in better condition). Its got a d35 in the rear. Interior is all there minus the rear panel behind the seats cause i took that. The driver seat is starting to pull apart but seemed to be in usable condition if needed. All the other panels are in there and are in good condition no cracks or breaks. The carpet board behind the seats is still there and in good condition also had a headliner that would make a good base to repad. I also took the cab vents but that was it, also still has the badging on the fenders and had a rear sliding window that seemed to be in decent condition but couldnt really tell because of topper. 1JTHS6419JT005621 Other is a 4cyl thats been painted camo, it is very stripped nothing really left in the interior and if it is its cracked. The passenger taillight was gone but the drivers light was still there and only had small hair line cracks at the bottom. Tail gate still there and only had little bit of rust at the top no back glass. Also has d35 rear. I'm beginning to realize these junk yard guys don't really care that people know what they really got in the yard. The 6cyl said that it was a 85 comanche online and on the vehicle. The 4cyl i didnt see online because they had it as a 88 jeep cherokee. :fs1:
  4. tore out the tranny thinking the pilot bearing was bad turned out it was the clutch disk lost a spring. Sitting at a the shop i was working on it waiting for a new clutch disk to come in. Then will be replacing the pilot bearing since i have it and will be putting on a new oil pan gasket.
  5. why do all the cheap and free camper shells have to be so far away from florida
  6. So, when in 2wd, the front locker will not be engaged? How does it handle going down the road in the winter in 4wd witht hat front locker? Yes, these lockers engage when there is power applied to the axle, so no power from the drive shaft it will not lock. You will some times hear it clicking as the gears are sliding over each other in a hard turn but that eventually wears off as the springs and other parts get broken in. As for the snow driving in 4wheel drive i have no clue so i can't answer that. Personally i would only run a spartan or aussie type mechanical locker in the front. If i had to choose a locker for my rig, if i decided to get posi I would get a detroit for the rear and run a mechanical type spartan locker up front or if i was to get a selectable i would run an OX locker either front or rear. Thats just my personal preference though.
  7. Looks like I'll be going 4 wheel drive sooner then planned. It seems my syncros in my tranny are going out. Now I say possibly because I was suppose to be trading a guy some axles for an ax-5 and tcase when I bought the jeep (was a deal put together by previous owner). I got in contact with once and have heard from him again and wasn't really to worried so iv put it off. Well now two months later I'm caring. So I'm still in the process of trying to get ahold of him. For now though I want to start looking just in case. I'll be needing a 4x4 transmission for a 2.5 motor along with tcase, I'll worry about the front axle later. If you got something and are within 200 miles of Tampa fl let me know. Like mentioned before this is a feeler and am not in a huge hurry I have another vehicle to drive if I completely lose shifting ability.
  8. I use the Comanche as a daily get good mileage and a fun small truck to drive. I'll also use it for the difficult trails here in Florida which the Comanche tackles in 2 wheel drive cause it's all it's got and all that is needed. I then have a jeep wrangler/ now a rock buggy which is at 4 right now but will be a 2 when done. Then have a 1500 dodge to do all the hauling. With those three I have all the garage time taken up I don't need a dedicated garage rig.
  9. absolutely nothing still looking ugly as ever, have made some progress on the buggy though and as soon as i get that done i can get back on the comanche.
  10. ordered a new clutch slave cyl waiting for it to come in so i can drive it again, its killing me in gas to drive the dodge this past week.
  11. no the axles belong to the owner but as for the comanche one day it will be on 33s and will put a rear 44 in it and some day if i can ever afford to put a 9in in the front of the buggy i will put the rubicon 44 that will be in the buggy under the comanche.
  12. there building that at a local shop i hang out at and help out some times here's a better picture came to the shop on 35s with waggy 44s and a horrible suspension, who ever built to suspension shouldnt be aloud to work on 4 wheel drive vehicles the suspension was built for a sports car if you see the arms sitting by the back tire in the second picture that was the control arm that were on it. now sitting on 46 baja claws dana 60 front 14 bolt rear with atlas tcase

    Florida?

got any pictures of the manche i pass by one near the suncoast park way and 54 about a month ago was red with a mild lift.
  14. ...your stopped at a light with the doors off and an xj pulls up and looks over at your dash then back at theirs, then back at yours then back at theirs and finally look up with a puzzled look on their face. ...you have an 06 dodge 1500 that is comfortable to drive with a/c yet only drive it maybe one time every other week, but drive the 88 comanche with no a/c thats half primered because your doing the body every day ...you got a windshield phone mount so you can use the speedbox speedo app on your i phone because you have yet to get a replacement speedo cable ... you turn around to take a picture of a street name

Tailgate was pretty decent, when i first saw it, and i was interested in buying it i was really dissapointed. One of the biggest things i like about the comanche is the jeep in the tailgate being a jeep guy.
  17. well since my wheeler is apart i took the mj out wheeling this weekend, it was light and easy wheeling so i figured two wheel drive wouldnt hurt it to bad. Only got stuck once and had a blast wheeling it here's a couple pictures from the weekend. Stuck It made it MJ tailgate doing its job cooking lunch Later in the day

1989 Eliminator 4.0 6cyl 5 Speed 2 Wheel Drive Dana 35 Rear Short Bed Forgot to get build date :wall: The comanche is currently for sale in Tampa Florida as of 7/10/2011 for $1800. The jeep runs and drives but had an overheating issue, the interior is tan with bucket seats and small console around the shifter and is in excellent condition. Its original color is red but was painted blue then camo. The rear tail gate was butchered and the jeep logo removed and replaced with louvers, a roll pan was also in place of the rear bumper. It had bed rails out it, a non functional hood scoop and a windshield visor that looks like it was not installed by the factory. I looked at this vehicle twice the story can be found here viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31138&p=310656#p310656.

When i first started looking for a comanche i went and looked at a 6cyl 5 speed short bed 2 wheel drive. The interior was in great shape but the previous owner made some changes. They cut the jeep out of the tailgate and put louvers in it. Put a hood scoop which isnt functional and a windshield visor on it, iv never seen one from the factory but by the install it looks like someone installed it afterwards. The rear bumper was removed and a roll pan installed. To top it off someone had etched in to the glass a locomotive train . It run good but had an overheating issue, it was clear water had boiled out of the over flow tank. Because i noticed that after test driving it i left it running and sure enough the temp climbed well above 210. It had been repainted from its original red and was a fading powdery blue. The guy was asking 1k with out the igniton switch fixed or 1200 with it fixed. I offered him 700 he didnt take and at the time was kinda glad he didnt take my offer, now knowing what i do if he had taken 700 i think i wouldnt have been to bad off but am still happy with the one i got. Yesterday my friend calls and ask me to go look at one that was paint camo. Turns out where the comanche was located was not 2 miles from my place. He picks me up to go look at it and thats when he shows me the craigslist ad. You have got to be kidding me its the same MJ i looked at 3 months ago just painted camo. Since it was close we went and looked at it anyway, no denying it was the same one. He says its an eliminator which the first guy made no mention of so i took down the vin to check it out and add the mj to the registry. The guy is now asking 1800 for it. I just deleted the picture i took of it the first time not more then a week ago. I went ahead and took a picture of this time and will post it in a few. This jeep is not a bad comanche just needs a little love, the body seemed to be rust free and not to many flaws. The biggest turn offs for me was the tailgate, the roll pan, the back window, and the overheating. When i first looked at it i had planned to put a new hood on it and remove the windshielf visor, i did not realise the tailgate and window before i went and looked at it. It would be great to see it get in the hands of a cc member and fix her up properly. here's a link to the craigslist ad http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/cto/2483107225.html Also does anyone know how to check what trim package the comanche came with i have the vin if you know how to check it.
