Found a set of tailights on CL cheap - no longer need. Still looking for a SWB Rollbar (Sportbar.) It can be rusty and dinged as it will probably be painted anyways when I paint the truck.

The whole story is in the link below. I will try my best to keep both these threads in sync, but you all know how that goes. The return of my 1988 Eliminator - "Scarlet" : http://www.delawareja.com/forum/index.php?topic=39174.msg320918#msg320918 Would love to hear comments and suggestions. Once I have done a proper evaluation this thread will become more interesting. Thanks for looking!

So a front D30 from an XJ would be "easy?" I have leads on an 01 and 99 XJ, so for simplicity and speed the 99 should theoretically be my best bet for this project? I'm hoping the motor is still good in her, shes been sitting alot longer than i would have liked.

(I'm sure this has been asked a million times. Searching on a smartphone is not the easiest thing to do on this site, sorry) Planning on picking up an 88 2wd next month, right now condition is unknown. At the very least I would like her to be 4x4, but searching through the threads here it seems everyone is focused on HO/gauge swaps as well. I wouldnt mind HO, but I'm looking for as cheap and simple as i can get - she is NOT my grand project. An AX15 would also be on my list. That being said, what would be the easiest drivetrain to search for as a donor swap?

... Nevermind... sorted itself out in one of those weird happy ways you hear about on the halmark channel. Details to follow in about a month...

The snorkel (or I should say what remains of it.) Its an ARB model that pretty much is a permanent addition to the truck. Even though the middle owner tryed to pry/saw it off he couldnt figure out how to pull the arm or air box connector off. Like I said... pretty much ruined, but it surely served one last purpose in flagging me down. Once close it was only a matter of double checking VINs. I keep ALL my car-related paperwork so verifying is the easy part. I'm just glad she wasnt truggy'ed or otherwise modified beyond repair - which was my second biggest concern....

Was just running down the road one day when I happened across this at a gas station: Image Not Found Yup, that her! Almost 10 years later and I just stumble upon her at a refill... Had a few minutes to talk with the current owner, good guy. I offered to buy her back, he gave me a price and I said I would meet it... but havent heard back yet. The truck was painted twice since - the front end was crumpled in an accident at some point. Someone tried to sawzall the snorkel off so its effectively ruined. Otherwise she's still original enough to take to a full restoration - all I need is to get her back!

The most on a single truck was 241,200 on the 3rd Mj. Combined, all six Mjs Ive owned totaled a breath under 500,000 actual traveled miles and ~850,000 odometer miles.

I know its been a while John, but I came back across this thread while in search of my first comanche Gracie. Sapphire was my 5th or 6th comanche and for whatever its worth I am so glad you got hold of her. Looking at all this pics its obvious to me now she would have died a slow, rusty death waiting on me to fix all those issues. I hope you're still happy with her, and I'll still keep checking in from time to time to see if anything new is going on. Carry on my friend!

Hell, wouldn't be the first time I overpaid for THIS jeep now that I think about it...

Ha! Well, it wouldn't be the first time I overpaid for a jeep...

Reviving this instead of re-posting. I am still looking for this truck - I know now that she's living along the I95 corridor in Delaware and might have been painted a dark green or camo. If anyone traveling through the area has seen it, please let me know - I realize its a longshot, but I amd getting serious about finding her this year and can't think of a better way to start.

I'm finally getting to the point where I can seriously start considering hunting down my first Comanche. She's a 1988 Pioneer LWB with 4.0L/5spd - many OEM upgrades and an ARB Snorkel. After 5 years of ownership, towing limitations forced me to sell her in November of 2003, and I know the person who bought her from the dealership kept her on the road until at least 2005. Last seen in the North Delaware, South Philadelphia area. I know running a carf@x is the easiest way to see which direction she headed, but I am putting that off until I am prepared to put a more reasonable sum down - would really appreciate a hit if someone has an open account, I'll PM the VIN. I was wondering if anyone has seen, or possibly even knows this truck today? (the top picture is from '03, the bottom from '00) Thanks in advance!

The V10s came with bith 5spds and 6spds. I've been hunting for a 6spd (rarer) which are NV4550. I don't know about the axles.

I'm just directing this one outward - not towards anyone in particular. This stems from the Bush/War thread lower down for reference. Pete shut down the thread due to "several email complaints." At first I was pretty much okay with it, but then I started to seriously think about what had happened. After a couple of days of thinking I have decided I am not amused by this decision. So I re-read the thread several times and other than a few pot-shot at illegals there really wasn't anything in that thread that was overly "heavy." This is typical bar-room quality conversation - no one was name calling or putting another member down, and other than our common loathing of illegals and hillary nothing truely offensive was being said. And the fact that everything being said was socially important leads me to believe there was some slight of hand here. The online FAQs don't help - no where does it say we cannot criticize our governement or its operation. Nor does it say political matter is out of bounds. So that leads me into the title of the thread - why even bother having an off-topic section if you really can't speak off topic? Jeep owners have opinions - some of them not as happy-go-lucky as others, but all of them open to the free public (assuming no death threats or other off-colour conversation occurs of course.) As a rule of thumb if a member (myself included) says something out of turn it should be made clear what the offense is, or at least identify who made the complaint. Right now I can only believe some Bush-lover with admin powers decided he/she didn't like what was being said and waved their magic wand. And more importantly who's deciding what is considered off-limits for conversation? If these emailers don't like what's being said why not just say it instead of running to mommy (so to speak.) One of the great things about forums is that you really don't have to read anything that's being said - I don't like football so I don't read football posts. Hell, if controversy offends you at all you don't even need to enter the forum, let alone the individual topics.. Magic forum wands are fundamentally anti-American (I mean seriously wouldn't you think Stalin would have loved the ability to just close conversations with a wave of hand?) and if this is an anti-American club I'd like to know now.

So what is your opinion on the War, Bush, and everything?
Bonkers replied to 89MJComanche's topic in The Pub
I really don't think we're in this position because of Bush, I think we basically did it to ourselves. After 9/11 our leadership did the most christian of things - find another religion to blame and blow the hell out of them. I have a completely different opinion on Iraq though - when I talk with my solider friends coming off tour I ask them all the same question "Do we need to be over there doing this?" So far I'm getting a resounding 'yes.' With Vietnam vets when I ask them "Did we need to be over there?" about 95% said 'no.' Since I persoanlly haven't taken a vacation in the combat zone I will accept what the men on the ground are telling me - if they say we need to be there that's perfectly good enough for me. As for where I'm voting next year I'm going to pay close attention to the independants. I like the idea of killing off governement intervention, but I am equally sick to death of the Republicans trying to jam christian views down my throat and tell me how unclean I've been living. The Democrats on the other hands have entirely rubbed me the wrong way with the whole immigration issue and the concept that I need the governement to run my life or I won't be able to survive to retirement. I think Hillary might win just because he's a she. I ask myself what I would do as president and look for the candidate that best meets my interests: - I would ban state profits off of speed camera technology. If a cop didn't catch you then all profits should go into the victims fund and not pass local coffers. - I would kill off the whole sanctity of life misconception. If a criminal shows no value to society he should be killed (I do not agreed with current execution standards though.) If a person is in sound mind and wants to kill themself so be it! Same with abortion - the grand majority of aborted fetuses would have suffered through life anyway, why make a big deal out of it. - I would get religion out of the governement for good. The last time religion and government worked together innocent people were burned at the stake. Last year the government spent over a billion dollars trying to teach kids that abstience is the only way - studies showed that 97% of kids ignored them. So this year the gov is trying for $1.2b in funding like that'll help. - I would legalize most of the drugs coming into the country, expecially pot. So far in US recorded history no one has ever OD'ed on pot. Just doesn't happen. Alcohol, salt, water have each killed thousands so far this year. Instead of spending $200b a year on the "war against drugs" I propose we focus on ridding ourselfs of the the naster stuff (like meth) and tax the snot out of the deisgner stuff. -$200b/yr becomes +$50b/y in revenue and cops can then worry about catching dangerious people. - I propose there be a military service 'option' for illegal immigrants. If you serve one tour in the military as a guest citizen, learn to speak American, and study basic American history you will be guarenteed citizenship when you return. You come here, get a rifle, a canteen and head to the desert to support the country you want to be part of. If not you get a canteen and sent to the desert anyway. - I would establish a tax allocation system via internet where a certain percentage would automatically go into infrastructure (highways, byways, electrical grid) and the rest you can decide where to spend it. If you want $100 to go into education - so be it. Space exploration, political campaigns, ect. That way you'd have significant control on where our taxes are uselessly spent. - I would change the entire tax system and focus on taxing all purchases made from within the US. And i would tax all funds coming in and out of the US. No tax shelters, no refunds, no more headaches. And no way to walk around the issue. If you don't want to pay taxes you simply don't buy anything for the year. - I would mandate all car insurance liabilities be tied directly into gas purchases. If you buy gas in the US you are automatically covered with liability. That means people like me who drive 40k a year automatically pay more in insurance than people like my wife who barely scrapes 10k, AND all those illegal immigrants, DUI/suspended lic violators, AND those asshats who simply refuse to pay normal insurance will be forced to have simple coverage. Have a car worth a little more than liabilty-only? Then you would pay the premium. -
[edit] - sorry, I was reading too far ahead and made this post off-topic. Didn't mean to hi-jack ya Pete...

There's supposed to be a J10 or J100 on Jericho next week. They trash it though. There was a Duece on this week.

Don't do it. Old GWs are insanely unreliable - the true product of 80s technology. I've had a J20, J10, CheroWT, Chero 4dr, and two GWs - every single one of them conked out before thier first oil change. If you are looking for something reliable you're not going to do better than the Mjs. A Grand Cherokee 6cyl is the ideal jeep choice if you MUST have back seats - a perfect blend of MPG and strenght. A cheap Xj can be worth its weight in gold too. If you think an Mj tailgate is overpriced, trying to find a GW rear glass motor will run several hundred dollars. Side glass and the chrome trim aren't be made anymore so what is out there is all that is. And don't get me started on the miles and miles of vaccuum lines and emission controls. The best my second GW averaged was 11.112mpg - and thats all highway. The 360 was not known for economy. Because of the running price of steel lately you'll be hard pressed to find decent donor vehicles in junk yards. Don't get me wrong, I loved my J-trucks - tank heavy and comfortable, but I would only recommend GWs for those with extensive 80s hack-n-play experience or the bankroll to buy a decent example (usually run about US$4000-13000.) They are not good play toys and will bleed you dry if you don't have good access to parts. At $1250 this sounds like it has rust isses or electrical headaches that the PO can't fix. At 17 I think you'd lose a great beginners jeep and wind up with something beyond your means or needs.

400,000 miles I have never had a fram go bad on me, nor have I heard about one failing before this, but Pete is right - for jeep motors chosing the filter might be more important than the oil itself.

Unless the the word massage is in the name of the place you never, ever go to a quick lube place. I used to work for a chevy dealership down the street from one and at least twice a month would get a car needing some sort of repair - mostly engine replacement. Consider this: most jiffy places pay about $10 for trained techs, most walmarts pay $10.25 for untrained tellers. Oil changes on jeeps are dirt simple and you can save a fortune doing them yourself. If you're not burning/leaking oil go with Mobil1 ($20 at most walmarts + $5 mobil filter at autozone) and your engine will last longer than you will. If you are burning oil then organic prestone and a fram filter is about the best/cheapest combo you can get. From personal experience don't put amsoil in anything more valuable than a rusted lawnmower.

Pat Robertson or Paula Zahn... I'm leaning towards Pat.

What is really amazing me is that no one seems to care that our governement has allocated $200,000,000,000.00 towards a project which raises some SERIOUS questions about the stability of our boarders. Its like we're all "yeah whatever, springers's on..." Hillard and Edwards are in full support of Bush's plans to make this happen - doesn't that strike anyone else as the seventh sign of the apocolypse? Since we're fronting the bill, how can this possible help us in the long run? Seems like quite the windfall for Mexico. A lot of questions and no real answers, this is exactly why our government gets away with crap - americans don't bother challenging it.

No, not NAFTA, I mean a real apshault and concrete roadway streching from Mexico City to Toronto. A buddy of mine in Texas mentioned it to me so I started to research (thinking it was a myth.) Apparently its not. http://www.thenewamerican.com/artman/pu ... 4218.shtml They're calling it the "Trans Texas Corridor" down there, but it will ultimately span the US.
