2006 Lj I-6 And Auto Tranny Into My '87 Mj?
Dougster123 replied to Dougster123's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Engine + trany is less then 48k miles, I have driven it and know it's been trouble free so far. Others are suggesting the Chev V8 swap cause weight is the same with better mpg. Hmmm- 5 replies

Will a I-6 and auto tranny from a 2006 LJ work in my '87 MJ? I'm told there might be some electronic concerns that would make it a pain. Have any of you performed this swap? Thanks, Doug

*** COMANCHE CLUB shirts/hoodies order for 2011 ***
Dougster123 replied to 87Warrior's topic in The Pub
When will the next order happen? -
I received an email response directly from Hanson.

Great thread! I'll apologize if this is not the place, but this is the most interest in MJ hitches I've found... I think I'm interested ...? I need a rear bumper and a hitch for my Long-beg MJ, and I need to configure for the max that my MJ/AX-15/Ford 8.8/4Whl-Discs/Long-bed can SAFELY handle. Was considering the Hanson MJ4002-P rear bumper, which "has a class II rating hitch for up to 3500lbs", but am wondering if a hitch of the style you guys are working on is better for my application. My long-bed MJ is 4.5" up, so I am assuming the need for a drop-tongue which introduces more severe stresses? Your setup positions the tongue/ball lower, and would shorten or eliminate the drop-tongue configuration = more robust then the Hanson bumper mounting system + drop-tongue. Am I correct here? I currently have a simple flush steel plate rear bumper, and will either get the Hanson, or have a buddy fab something new -- should provisions be made for attaching (bolting) the receiver to the bumper (this was briefly touched on at the beginning of this thread)? If you guys suggest going with your hitch over the Hanson bumper, then I'm interested and am more then willing to buck up...possibly for two. Thoughts?

1989 project THE GENERAL
Dougster123 replied to 89 solider mj's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Curious - did you get the long bed on purpose? With plans to bob it? I couldn't bear the thought of cuttin on my long-bed - and am planning on getting a short bed for wheelin. Just curious....looks like a fun project. -
The thought is very intriguing. It would open up a whole new world of bumper choices....which I am interested in right now! Nice looking rig by the way.

What should I replace my 1987 MJ bent front High Pinion Dana 30 4.10 Axle housing with ? Another one? Or, is there a better choice that will be an upgrade while I'm at it? There is an '86 Cherokee replacement at a local yard, but I'm a newbie to the Jeep world and not sure I wouldn't be buying another bent housing. A buddy of mine suggests looking for a Rubicon D44 to gain strength and limited slip while I'm at it - but neither of us know if that would be a bolt-on replacement, or require fab (which I don't want to do). Any suggestions for this newbie will be greatly appreciated.

I have this same problem, only on both sides. Haven't picked a shop to check alignment yet cause they all start off talking about installing adjustable ball-joints as a fix - while I want to understand what is causing this. I'll keep researching past forms before posting a new thread on this. MCF90, any updates?
-
Yeah! Someone finally said it! OK...I am a 4x4 Jeep newbie, but not new to vehicles. This is exactly what shops used to ask me (years ago) upon learning that a vehicle was new to me - "would you like all four wheels checked...in addition to the front standard adjustments. They would call it a "4 wheel alignment" and explain it as above. Now I've got my first Jeep, and want these type of measurements done, but you'd think I was speaking Martian or something.

Did Comanche's ever have Select-trac? I'm brand new to the Jeep world and havn'tbeen able to pin this down. I would think Select-trac would be considered a must have.

1992 VIN number lookup ?
Dougster123 replied to Dougster123's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Automan2164, I was using http://www.comanchemj.1hwy.com/custom3.html. Is that your site? If so, great info there. Thank you. johnnyc, I don't know the build date yet. I'm going to see the truck tomorrow. This is a prospective purchase that seems expensive to me, but if there is no rust and the reported body dings are minor and fixable, then I won't be able to help it - It's a sexy looker even in the crappy pics. It's reported as a 1991 LWB 4x4 L6 HO Auto Dana44 (factory ordered) with 200K miles. I have read that many Comanche's of this vintage have the Dana44 as part of the Big Ton (Metric Ton) and/or tow package . . . so, I'm really hoping this has both as I plan to do a little wood hauling. dasbulliwagen, Thank you for the offer. Will your information show how this particular truck was outfitted i.e., the Metric Ton pkg, Tow pkg, Select-Trac? I'll PM the VIN to you now. I'm a Jeep virgin so any tips on what to look for are welcome. I know to look for rust under the carpet and in the nooks and crannies of the rear fender well, but that's about it. Also, I'm told every one of these inline 6's has an exhaust leak and not to worry about it. You guys are great! What a forum! Thanks for all of the response. This whole Comanche experience feels like I've just stumbled upon Disneyland as a 10 year old. -
1992 VIN number lookup ?
Dougster123 replied to Dougster123's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks automan2164 - Oops! Then that I guess that means I only have up to 1990...so still need to find the 91/92 lookup. -
Hello Comanche Brothers and Sisters, I'm new to the Jeep world and am on the hunt for the code to 1992 VIN's. Does anyone know how to decipher a 1992 VIN number? I have found the break-down for all years prior to 1992, just not 1992 and later. Thank you for any help, Doug

Hello Comanche World, I'm new and hope I'm putting this in the correct forum topic... What have I got myself into? I started of thinking a Comanche would be a great inexpensive yard/wood hauling truck. Now I've got the Comanche bug and am eying a '91 LWB 4x4 HO Dana44 Auto 2"lift w/ apprx 200K miles asking $3500. These must have entered the collector market since they're asking way over the Blue Book price. The body is generally straight with left rear bumper mark and a slight crease in the outside bed panel behind the R rear wheel. I haven't seen it in person yet, so I have yet to check for floor rust under the carpet and in the rear wheel wells, but the pics look very attractive. I'm a Jeep virgin and am about to "lose it" to a Comanche. Any advice is welcome. What would something like I described go for? Glad I found you guys/gals, Doug
