PROJECT BUDGET MANCHE - Now on 35's!
ORCA replied to LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Oh ok. That's a bummer. Sorry for beating it to death. When's the winch going in? -
Long bed driveshaft in a short bed???
ORCA replied to Mitch's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't think anyone has touched on this, but changing from sprung under to sprung over doesnt seem like it would equal 6" of lift, unless your axle tube was 6" in diameter..? Or am I missing something... -
Yes. Worth every penny.

So no one has really been able to answer this; do those motion rails fit on both long beds and short beds? I don't know if theres a difference in length between the wheel wells -
Since youve got nothing better to do, lots of fab tools, and FREE steel, why not make us all a diff cover? Please? :brows:

Hahaha! Dyno sheet?! Your kidding right? This IS a jeep were talking about...right? ;) With the borla I noticed a nice power gain between about 1,000 and 2,500 RPM. Any actual data to prove this? No. As far as sound goes, it gave the exhaust a more throaty sound, but I'm not into having the loudest exhaust on the block. I originally bought the header because my stocker was cracked in a few spots, and i didnt want to just replace with another stock peice that could crack again. So personally I felt the need to 'upgrade'.

$50 1 gallon can of dupicolor bedliner was enough for me: Sure its no professional job, but you can't beat the price! and if you screw up, its your own darn fault!
-
I'm confused...
-
Did you get the DIY cover or prefabbed? For what axle(s)? I would like to see the pictures either way.
-
Never built my own but this may help you (or not): http://bluetorchfab.com/store/index.php?cPath=19_21_22 BTF offers a DIY kit for pretty much every popular differential out there, and their only about $70-90. Or $140 for preassembled. They look beefy as hell

I had acouple friends go. Sounds horrible... Hot weather, sand storms, and drugs. They also mentioned that it has changed quite a bit since it first got poplar way back when. Its becoming more "corporate"....? :???: Personally if I were to trip out i'd rather be somewhere else, like hawaii :brows:

Appears so. I wonder if it runs on the dewalt battery or if its just propped up on it. Either way it sure looks like fun!

rocky-road rails with RK 3 link??

Long bed? -
Yes it was. I would have never bought it for my MJ, but I did buy it for my previous wheeler (which eventually got totaled) so I swapped it over. My MJ was cheaper than the header itself  Consider that before purchasing.

Your opinion is much appreciated sir. I was lucky when I got my 8.8 because it came from a fellow jeeper who had it completly ready to swap into an XJ before selling it to me for around $450. The gears didnt match but I was ready to change the gearing on the truck anyway (put in 4.56's). But your absolutley right about cost, which is a factor often overlooked when preparing for new projects. Do you have a URL for that TNT company? i'm having a hard time finding it on google. :hateputers: -

That is what I was figuring you had an issue with. I havent to this date (knock on wood) broken a c-clip or spun a tube on my 8.8 (which has been under 3 different jeeps now, and wheeled under all of them). Each jeep had 35" tires or bigger, FYI. I have seen c-clip eliminator kits (forget exactly what company offered them) for the 8.8 and it is pretty common for people to weld the tubes to the pumpkin. I havent done either of these things. Oh and ive heard the c-clip eliminator kits have a tendency to leak :headpop: IMO the 8.8 does more than provide a stronger axle, but also depending on what ford you rip it out of, comes standard with disk brakes (a major plus to any vehicle). I'm not trying to sell it to you, I just wanted to hear your opinion on the matter. I apologize if i'm not making sense here, i had shoulder reconstructive surgery yesturday and i'm feeling alittle loopy from the meds  -
Nice write up with great pictures too! no offense, but the title is a bit misleading since you really didnt fix a leaky tank, you just swapped in an xj tank...

May I ask you why? You seem pretty passionate about NEVER putting one in. Is it because of the C clips? -
borla header? It's $557.99.... http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch ... 4294908279

rocky-road rails with RK 3 link??
ORCA replied to 91xjlimited's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Do those rails fit on long beds? i don't know if the distance between between the wheel wells is different on shorties and longies... BTW those rails are sweet! FINALLY someone got smart and made MJ rails. i can't wait to get a set of my own! -
Borla. I've had the same header on 2 different trucks (95 w/ I6 HO and my 88 I6) with no problems, except for one: their header doesnt have the factory "dent" in it above the front diff/driveshaft. Over time I've managed to smash it in where it doesnt rub anymore when flexing. Oh yea, its very expensive too... http://www.quadratec.com/products/77601_802_07.htm Some old photos:

Thanks everyone for the praises! I apologize to the admins for posting this in the wrong section, its been awhile since i've been a forum junkie. I'll get into the swing of things soon enough (I hope!) Maybe we could get a northwest meet and greet together sooner or later, depending on everyone's availability. I'm new to the area here and haven't met any competent jeepers, just ignorant dudes with blingy show trucks. (seems as though the 4x4 industry is heading this way...but thats another can of worms) 88manche4x4: If your ever down in the eugene area, let me know if you can! I'm having my surgery down tomorrow ( ) so I won't be going anywhere for the next 8-12 weeks ( :headpop: ). As far as NAXJA goes, I was a member there a LONG time ago, until I discovered this forum. I lurk there every now and again, but don't do much posting. I believe my SN there is "mission-inc", but again, it's been along time since i've posted there. On a side note; would any of you Oregonians be interested in starting an Oregon based offroad club? It seems alot of members here are in WA, and I don't mean to exclude anyone. So this may be irrelavant... Either way, it's good to be back on here! I'm stoked to see so many new members dedicated to the comanche truck!
