  1. Cody I'm sorry to hear that. It makes me a little sad. Maybe it's time to put it up for adoption. Maybe a S-10 is a good way to go for you. I don't like them myself personally because they are everywhere and everyone makes after market parts for them. But we all don't have to like the same things, that's what makes the world so fun. Hopefully you change your mind about your jeep, and if not hopefully your new ride works out better for you no matter what it is. And thanks for the advise on the back stuff, I'll look into it.
  2. I've had my MJ for 2 or 3 years now. We've had our up's and down's but I will never ever get rid of her. I fell in love with MJ's back when I was a kid, and every so often I fall in love with mine all over again. The first time was pure looks. yeah I'm the superficial type lol. Never owning a four wheel drive before the first time off road I fell in love all over again. My MJ has a long bed that has saved me a time or two, thats three. And just earlier today I fell in love with my MJ for the fourth time. I've been a truck guy all my life and currently I own two trucks, an 86 MJ and a 87 Mazda B2000. I love my Mazda to death, its an awesome truck. Monday morning I had back surgery and today I was able to drive thanks to the design and shape of my MJ bench seat. The Mazda bucket seat pushed into my back where they cut it and it was extremely unbearable. The MJ seat cradeled my back and soothed the pain. Thanks to my MJ I was able to get out of my house today, the first time since monday. Being an outdoors kind of guy as well as always being on the go, just physically being able to drive up to the grocery store by myself just to get out of my house ment the world to me today. That's some of the reasons why I love my MJ and will keep her around as long as I possibly can. So now tell me, why do you love your's?

  4. The only thing I hate is having to explain over and over that yes it came from the factory as a jeep truck and no I didn't put a truck bed on a cherokee. :wall: :mad:
  5. Because I am not nor ever will be politically correct, I'm the baddest trash man ( yes trash man! I don't sanitize or engineer anything at work, and I definitely don't collect anything that's put in a trash can.) the city of Fayetteville N.C. currently has employed! At night and on weekends I'm a mechanic as well as do custom paint and body work. Not to mention just being a "local crazy"!
  6. I know I'm a day late and I'm sorry, I've been swamped lately. Would it be possible to still put in an order for a black 2XL heavy hoodie with a red logo? I know there was talk about maybe doing one. If your not doing them then a 2XL black heavy hoodie with a tan logo, that is of course if your still taking orders. Just let me know either way, thanks.
  7. The vin, when read correctly, will only tell you what was supposed to come stock in the truck. If someone else has been adding upgrades its going to be hard to figure out what piece came from where. unless you can find and check part numbers on each individual piece. but alot of it is going to be personal taste things. steering wheel and gauge cluster doesnt matter where they came from as long as they work and you like them, same with axels, transmissions, engine, etc. If it doesnt work or you don't like the look or performance of something, change it. It's your truck, no matter what anyone else says its all about what you like and what makes you happy. You own it, do whatever you want to do to it so long as you love it.

Even if it's not plug and play, go for it! it's a simple hot and ground. just use power from something that is always on when the trucks running and use an existing ground. hell, you could even use the power from the headlights, just remember to turn them on whenever you have the truck running. it will also take some strain off the motor not having to turn the fan. and no more fan clutches to worry about.
  9. I'm not really looking for more flexability, just a cheap up option for myself. Why pay someone else to design and build a kit for me when i can not only do it cheaper but at the same time have a custom one off lift kit? Believe it or not,but I like to stand out and I'd like my rides to stand out as well. So less load capasity in the bed, huh? Anything else? Bouncier ride? Stiffer ride? I don't wanna drive my baby down the road and feel like I'm back in my trash truck on a dirt road. Or lean really hard when I turn like I'm on one of those animal on a spring things at the playground. Now that I know it's definately do-able, whats the pro's and con's? :cheers:
  10. i had the same issues when changing steering wheels. the easiest fix it to re-route the wires to a push button switch and mount it on the dash. but if your dead set on making the horn work,here's some tips. the shiny metal sticker sucks. it does not make a good connection. basically the horn wire connects to a ring either in or under the wheel grounding out the metal on the steering wheel itself, one also connects to the center cap of the steering wheel. the spring keeps the connections from touching until you press the horn. horn is pressed, connection is closed, horn blows. its a simple circuit, make sure all connections work. sorry if i sound like "the professor" or anything, no offence ment.
  11. In a nut shell I'm a fabricator/mechanic/body guy :wrench: . I've never lifted a suspension, but I've lowered them(Yes, I'm a mini trucker as well as a MJ lover . Odd combo huh?) But I've been looking into lift kits and ive noticed that the front end is basically a four-link set up with coil springs, add taller stronger springs and extend the four-link bars(steering linkage, break lines,etc) and you have lift. For the rear its add taller stronger leafsprings and you get lift. here's my thought, why not four-link the rear end,fabricate coil spring pearches, and add some tall strong springs? It wouldn't be any different than the front, would it?. It's the same basic idea used to make mini's go up and down, remove springs and add airbags or hydrolics. So everyone, feel free to leave you advise, comments, dirty name calling, whatever you want. Like I said, never lifted but I don't see why it wouldn't work. before anyone says it, geometry and fabrication are not going to be a problem for me. Lets see what we can get going shall we? :cheers:
  12. But the door opens from the outside? Open the door, take off the door panel and check all the rods that go from the inside door handle to the latch. Make sure that their all working properly and not binding or catching on something, or that none of the clips that hold all the rods in place are broken or missing. Again if you need a reference use the driver door.
  13. I Hate electrical problems, but it seems to be the culprit alot. Its usually a good idea to check wiring first. Plus its a cheap fix, my favorite kind :cheers:

  15. I know this is gonna sound stupid, but have you had the battery tested? I mean from a parts store? It could be that your battery is worn down, or even possible that it doesn't have enough cold cranking amps to turn the motor over. Could even have bad battery cables or cable ends. If their not tight on the battery it won't start. Might also be that the new starter is bad. Test it off the truck and see if its working properly. This is just my first thought. I've had these things happen to me.
  16. Take a look at your door handle out of the panel. You should notice a little spring missing. If you don't, take out the passanger one and compair the two and see whats different.
  17. Just a thought, but if the switch on the bottom of the column is not aligned properly it will cause it to fall back into the off position or even stay stuck in the start position when you leg go of the key. Its easy to check and does not cost anything but time.
  18. Stand at the fender and look at your belts and pulleys while your truck is running. Your harmonic balancer might be pulling away from the motor. If it is Replace it. If all of your belts and pulleys don't line up almost perfectly change the pulley or pump that is throwing it out of alignment.
  19. I learned the hard way, if you buy an 1986 2.5L 4cyl handle, everything with kid gloves. alot of these parts are not only not interchangeable, but their extremely hard to find. From 1986 to 1987 Jeep/AMC changed alot, both on the engine and in the interior. Be extremely careful handling certain parts.
  20. I had the same problem with a sony x-plode I put in my 86. I changed the radio fuse in my fuse box, the inline fuse that came with the wiring harness, and the fuse on the back of the radio, never had a problem after that.
  21. Could be a bad or clogged fuel injector if fuel injected. Carb might be out of adjustment if you have one. Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Could be trask in your gas tank or fuel lines.
  22. First of all I want to thank anyone and everyone in advance for any help I recieve. So I own and drive daily an 1986 Comanche with the 2.5L 4Cyl motor and the long bed. I love her to death!!! Unfortunately I'm going thru about a belt a week. I've already replaced the harmonic balancer, but it looks like its pulling away from the motor again. As well as someone took off and put on the power steering pump pulley with a hammer. This thing is warped! What I Found out the hard way is that no one makes the power steering pump pulley for this truck. I can get the pump with res all day long at the parts store, but not the pulley. From 86 to 87 jeep changed alot of parts including the power steering pump pulley, the door key locks on the outside, seatbelts, and various other "little things". I need to know what pulleys will fit my truck, or if anyone has one or knows where to get one. You know you are in deep when the local jeep dealer laughs at you. Wheres an AMC dealer when you need one lol? Please help!!! :wall:
