i was drive alone at 45 mph ....no sweet next backfiring ,loss of power weird knocking< -not all the time happening very srtange and liter bleed down -clattering .........one bad day ! popped valve cover open ,seen nothing funny -turned over by hand -only cylinder one exhaust weak at pump up ?? at 250,000 miles damn oil pump went ?? anybody else heard this one before ??/

it got better did the com test 2 times before pulling the head last week end ....talk about make me a fool ,i have many crazy things cars etc will do ,which will make you look like fool no matter what you think is real ! the bridge of the head gasket between 2/3 acted like a reed valve - blown but still working and burnt valves as well ...plug was installed to see if a blown gasket at fault on the other side getting com test ! talk about a tough engine !! she is running again happy !

i have a 2.5 liter which has two burnt valves on #2 and #3 yes the it past the oil test ...this most involved engine repair to be done on the MJ so far ...one very tough engine ! i have seen many engines fail in worst will less mileage ! rebuilt head is sitting on the bench ....of me own this mj since 2006 i have put 135,000 mile on her and spent with tires less than 3000 ...less fuel ....its so far the cheapest ride i ever owned .....

where to find parts like map sensors etc does anybody make list for the better made parts yet for the MJ' YET ? i am sick of crappy parts ,i don't mind to pay for good parts plus i have 4 more MJ's to tale care of now -mind too ...thxs

this should be a sticky .....note on the plugs get NGK hands down with .40 should do the trick .....

two things happened broken wires on the right fender area and not so nice leaking pressure regulator ........all this after the fuel pump was replaced on Wednesday get the Bosch pumps not airtex crap ! on the ground wires i have 2 battery cables on the negative post -one to block /next to the body ...learned from working on foreign cars oh yes thank you again for the help and ideas read and look around helps a lot never be afraid to say ''i don't know '' i have had my taste of renix from Volvo -it will drive nuts and get some vine and good girl before working on it and have a bucket for the cuss words too !

sorry its a TBI set up 12 to 14 pounds are normal ....timing is spot on at 10* .........thxs so far .....like i said all normal is good somthing is a foot !

well i had one more trouble loss of power at /above 3000 rpm like a rev control is at work ......backfiring ...yes map is good ,vac tested ,ohm tested TPS ok crank sensor is good too all normal tests are clear and good fuel psi is at 14 pounds too ????? thxs

i have no end of fun with my MJ ...but now have 3 of them to work on now ....my new trouble is one 2.5 liter manual tranny 2 wheel drive 1987 ..runs great but at times backfires 2 different ways exhaust and intake not at same time you can at 45 mph and shutter happens ,backfire TBI side ....decelerating bang .... word is getting around i fix them but damn parts are getting to be hard to get .......

this is no joke ! i had a broken wire going to the TPS ...talk about drive you nuts !!

YUP ...i heard that pain well ..i found a 94 xj aluminum one 3 years ago in the bone yard for 20 bucks ! yes they are out there ,seek and you will find one ! its worth it !!

guide plates wore out ? look at frame rails and sliding glass parts ...... no its the zombies trying to get inside ....

for all to think over with diesel swaps ....weight and vibration the latter is the most wildest part ,your girl friend will love it but your other girl friend ,poor Mary Jane will hate you with popped seams and spot welds ....i have seen 4 liter h.o. break motor mount bolts in the block ....beefing up this area is NOT cheap if done right ,more weigh ! diesels are heavier than h.o. so what are the gains on this one ???

well i had a vortex muffler ...it started to make a buzzing sound like them rice cookers .....cut it out went with a flowmaster ..nicer on the ears

wow very strange ...wrong sided i worked on many gray market cars etc from england and japan ....them things are wild !!

of the fuel gauge wiring from the power feed feed to sender in tank and back ....thxs

well you drive old mj backfires at times .....but starts great etc but only cold at/below 40* outside air temps .....its a ghost - all the values of the temp senors are good ..used ice cubes to test the ohms ..fuel psi and volume are good ...its a TBI tps is good too ??? ideas over this one ????thxs

i got sick Tuesday with a fever at the shop ...drove home not feeling good, better 3 miles away from home ,the brake light fires off ......cussing! now feeling better now pull old mj in the shop did a look over no leaks damn rebuild master gave out ....the back side was wet .....so R&R bleed all is cool on backing out of the shop to close up the shop .hit the brakes ..heard a noise from backside like a pop and high piss ....damn old brake lines !!! ome not bad still 250,000 miles on them and got me to the shop one time .....

i had one pop both lopes on the inside -towards the chain 7 months ago talk about noise xj one fit no trouble ....

my 2.5 and a friend's 4 liter have the 300 l-6 rocker arms so far no trouble ....on both run better than stock ....its not a race set up but volume efficiency is greater which helps out - a low lift cam with greater duration -this works great ...always remember will's law mod one thing ,the rest will must be moded too will is my old boss and friend who was in road racing years ago ,who knew old smokey ...

where to get the best map sensor for a 2.5 mj .....i hate the china made crap !!! damn backfiring is driving me nuts ...i used a friend's gm made one without a hicup .......one other is the setting for IAC motor what is ideal speed setting and pinnacle length from base to end in mm ...thxs

wow on them bump sticks ! ok do me a flavor get 2 roller arm for a ford 300-L6 put them on no.1 and look at the lift of stock vs. this mod -its a bit more lift ..... its a low cost help

its for a short bed 1989 mj where does l/r side wiring spit at ? at what length app. this spit happens from the back master plug near the spare tire /left corner of the bed to the front ? i had found a small trouble which burn out 2 brake switches and cause a few dimming of dash lights ..some where between brake light switch and back master connector plug a short has formed ..this is a heads up if you see this happening please start looking too !thxs all
