Ac Problem - Coincidence Or Consequence?
danbyrambler replied to LobsterThief's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Can't speak with authority for a 91 Comanche but, on my 87 MJ factory AC blend air system, a vac leak, especially in the vac resevoir will cause problems - if the blend air door is positioned-allowing flow mostly through the heater core then slightly cooler air until the engine comes up in temp & then warm - - - - - - Could very well be coincidence in that your ac has a slow leak - - - - - - Have U checked anything other than it doesn't blow cold? - - - - - - Fast & Dirty - - - with AC turned on is the compressor clutch engaged and turning? - - - - - - - A 91 MJ/XJ FSM & prob other 91 Jeep FSMs will lay it all out. -
Mj Still Overheating!!!!
danbyrambler replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Fast & Dirty - - - Engine cold - Radiator full - Start truck & let run for 60-90 seconds - Turn off & remove radiator cap - have your ear close enough to the cap to be able to tell if the system was pressurized - - - - - - -Lazer temp readers are worth having - 25-35 bucks - Check radiator hose in & out, thermostat housing, front of head, back of head-all the obvious - brake rotors & drums & so on - Around the house for HVAC, chances of getting lucky at bedtime - all kinds of things - - - used mine a couple yrs back to ck fever temps when my 2yr old grandson was having problems & was way easier than a thermometer - just read under arm temp - neat tool. -
FWIW - - - Thought my stock 87 4.0 AW4 MJ was running ok - 19-20mpg & then read a post about replacing the auto idle speed motor even though . . . .Another post somewhere about TPS problems prompted a check before enough miles were logged to judge the new IAC install. . . . . New TPS time . . . . .Seemed like the new IAC & TPS made a bit of a dif & then my dash lights grew a little brighter & then went back to normal - normal for my truck - & so now it's time to ck grounds & everything seems ok but, remembering some problems with other makes & my 1st instructor back in E school who was always saying "THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH GROUND", I ran a #2 strand from battery neg to PS radiator top brace/header & then another from DS brace/header to Pwr Steering mount - WOW, seems there was a ground problem somewhere - Readjusted the TPS & Trans shifting is noticeably better & 20-21 mpg - - - I normally avoid the shotgun approach - don't know what made the biggest dif here but the ground thing seemed to be the catalyst. :wrench:

PENETROL's a snake oil that's been around forever - I've used it on cars.trucks, farm implements that stay outdoors, battery terminals, equipment/fabrication prep & wart remover - You can pretty much believe what's on the label/directions - Oil based, you can paint over it - The big box stores carry it - Good Stuff Image Not Found

GET A CHECK UP - Ignoring a heart attack's one thing; fast, easy way out next one or 2, but a stroke can be something horrible - How you gonna do transmissions with a useless left arm? A doctor gave a man six months to live. The man couldn't pay his bill, so he gave him another six months. My doctor grabbed me by the wallet and said, "Cough!" The Doctor called Mrs. Cohen saying, "Mrs. Cohen, your check came back." Mrs. Cohen answered, "So did my arthritis!" The Doctor says, "You'll live to be 60!" "I AM 60!" "See, what did I tell you?" A doctor says to a man, "You want to improve your love life? You need to get some exercise. Run ten miles a day." Two weeks later, the man called the doctor. The doctor says, "How is your love life since you have been running?" "I don't know, I'm 140 miles away!" A doctor has a stethoscope up to a man's chest. The man asks, "Doc, how do I stand?" The doctor says, "That's what puzzles me!" "Doctor, my leg hurts. What can I do?" The doctor says, "Limp!" Doctor says to a man, "You're pregnant!" The man says, "How does a man get pregnant?" The doctor says, "The usual way - a little wine, a little dinner...." A man goes to a psychiatrist. "Nobody listens to me!" The doctor says, "Next!" "Doctor, I have a ringing in my ears." "Don't answer!" Have your GF schedule a chk up!

Consider this if you decide to buy a Lincoln: The Home Depot also sells Lincoln welders - THD & Lowes have/share a common history & a rivalry that pales the Martins/McCoys feud - - -THD expands upon this a little in that they really don't like any competition period. Anyway, THD has a price match policy plus they'll beat the competitions price by 10% minimum - Lowes sometimes does the same - Price match always-discount maybe - Both will probably ask for proof to make sure it's same model/manufacturer - local ad - phone verification & such - don't know how much money the lincoln goes for but if THD normally stocks it & they're out they will upgrade free with a $50 max - BTW all of this is for in store sales only - - One more thing that can save a few bucks - Both THD & Lowes just about wet their pants if you get one of their credit cards - No tricks or strings attached & they will offer a discount to get you to sign up, then you can use it or toss it - they don't care, they're just always under a lot of pressure to push CC sign ups - - - They also have monthly sales quotas for each department - at THD the pro desk is the place to visit - Most of the time the pro desk supervisor will give additional % off just for running the sale through his dedicated register - Lowes is probably the same - - You can always save money at either place just by knowing/asking - - - After I was happily retired my wife came up with the idea that "just for appearance sake " maybe I should have a job until our daughter finished Elementary&High School & I fell for it - Ran a THD tool rental dept for 7 years-So what I've said about saving money in these places I know to be true. Hope this helps. :D
