So long story short: I ordered the S10 part (Duralast TU66) and it seems to work now. I had a mild panic when I got the box home and it said "Temperature switch" but I double checked the website and it clearly said "with gauges" so... okay? I did ohm it out and it was not zero or open, and the number went down when I heated it up so it seemed okay. It installed fine and, after warming up the engine, the gauge matched the thermocouple on my multimeter so I think we're good to go! Thanks @eaglescout526 for the tip!

I failed at swapping my ding light gauge cluster for a real one today. I got it off ebay, supposedly from an 86 cherokee with the 2.8L and everything worked on the bench with a resistor box and dc power supply. Install seemed to go very smoothly* except for the fact that my temp sensing unit doesn't seem to match up. I thought I read all of the forums very carefully, looked through the write ups master list, and they all said "get the part for your year with gauges". So I ordered the part rockauto had listed as "WITH GAUGE" for the 2.8. So I think it's obvious, but the top sender is what I ordered (TS268) and the bottom one is what I took out. They're very different sizes and I'm also confused by the fact that one that was on the truck already used a spade connector instead of the 'boot' like every other sensor shows... I checked the electrical manual and it shows the wire for the coolant sensor coming to the same spot where I pulled that thick guy from - the drawing also shows a spade connector so I think I'm on the right track? Does anyone know what the part number for the big boy is and/or why mine seems to be different? * - I say "very smoothly" like I didn't snap off the PRNDL indicator tab on the 3sp column shifter... anyone know if I can order that or do I have to make one?

We spotted this too - it never seems to move though. And, of course, the first words out my wife's mouth were "where do we get that roll bar"

Anyone working on reproducing splash guards/mud flaps?

If someone wants to ship me a set (NOS or otherwise) I can take high res photos, a 3d scan, an alginate mold, and a plaster mold and the ship them back. (molds are contingent on me being confident I won’t ruin them in the molding process!). I can’t promise I’ll start up a production line, but at least the data to do repros will be preserved? Ditto for the brackets, since I’m not even sure where they would attach… -
hehe that's pretty much what it would have looked like after I left. Except the steps of course, I 100% would have nabbed those if I thought they fit on my 86. Probably would have been sitting in the cab, on my phone, for like 45 minutes trying to figure it out :p

Mine are actually in great shape already, so I wasn't too worried about grabbing these . Pretty sure every mile on the truck I bought was dry summertime highway

I have a much higher res pic if you want me to send it to you somehow
-
Oh absolutely - I love the pick-your-part yards and keep an eye out for my daily driver all the time to see what I can snag. I honestly didn't think I'd find a comanche at all nearby but here we are.

It's at the LQK pick and part in Mt Airy MD. If you go make sure you take better pics for everyone (I would have if I had known better)

@eaglescout526 @schardein @Strokermjcomanche I don't know about these axle things, but if it's something that's worth saving I could see about going back out there. It's a hike for me, but could be worth it?

Such as? ETA: I have the 'dreaded' 2.8 in my 1986 so none of the engine stuff that was still there worked for me (which was not a lot anyway...)

That’s awesome! I’ll have to try. -
Tried my hand at some resin work

Most epoxies are "food safe" in the sense that you won't get sick from eating off of them, but with a cutting board you'd get lots of small nicks and scratches that will almost certainly be little bacteria caves. Also, with as fast as epoxies dulls shaping tools, I bet it's hell on kitchen knives. -

that side mount toolbox looks good there - do you have to drill holes in the truck to mount it? -
There's definitely at least one other in my neighborhood that I see parked around. I guess I should probably try to find them see about group buys :p

The axle building video had me laughing my @$$ off "This not what a built axle looks like... these are probably garbage (giggles)" Definitely wish I had a big @$$ plasma and brake to "just cut out some axle perches real quick" though!

saw cut the entire bed and support pillars, 90% of the interior, back glass, both doors, full front clip. Is this normal for comanches? Too bad the engine didn't match mine since that's about all that was left! I'm surprised this hasn't been moved to the crusher yet... EDIT: Yeah I don't computer real good. Meant for this to be in the pub but I guess it fits here too since yall are the most likely ones to have had at it :)

Just bought this off my neighbor who is having health problems and can't drive/take care of it anymore. I promised to sell it back to them "at a fair price based on what time/money I put into it", whatever that means. I guess maybe I'm just renting a project car? image, if available: None yet, I'll get some uploaded. Engine / Trans / Transfercase / Front axle / Rear axle / Wheelbase - 2.8L with the 7' bed Build date: (its on the driverside door sticker, in the form of month and year) - no sticker? Current Location: Region will do, state, and area of state. - Maryland/DC Status: Is it still on the road, is it in the junkyard? Project awaiting work? - Runs/drives reasonably well. It's been sitting for about 9 months or so, but looks like it had a 'tune up' right before it sat - air cleaner is white and oil is beautiful honey color. It's in a weird kind of condition. It's like they let something go until it failed catastrophically, then did an A+ 110% job of repairing (aka "replacing") it. So while the shocks look (and feel) like they're original, 1/2 of the wiring harness is brand new and looks like it was professionally re-wrapped and mounted back to the body with factory mounting hardware. I'm going to have a chat with their mechanic, who's nearby, soon to see whats what. Plan is to be nothing more than a "truck around town": quick dump runs, move an appliance, go to the drive in, etc. Something for the kids to take when they're staying close enough for easy recovery :)
