I think I've only personally seen 4 other comanche's outside of my own. It's always been when I'm driving. One I saw on my way to work was parked outside of a building that's being built, it was dark green, no rust, roll bar, with fog lights up top (of course I slowed WAY down to get a good look). Another I was driving in mine on 291 and he crept up on me in the lane next to me, I looked over and he was looking at me with a smile (for once the comanche I was looking at was rustier than mine). :rotf: Another I saw at the intersection of 291 and 78 highway (23rd street). I think it was like a bronze color..fairly decent shape. Nothing too special about it...outside of it being a comanche. :brows: The last I saw was near my job. There's a housing section back behind where I work. All the time I see this guy in a white sporty looking MJ, just haulin' butt down the street. No rust, bright paint, nice decals, sounds great. Lets just say I've left work and hunted those housing editions looking for his truck with no luck. :wall: This is why I love having an MJ, they are rare and don't really look like anything else. Very unique, and that's why I love driving them. Of course mine doesn't turn heads for the right reasons...but it turns heads none the less. :rotf: One day it will look great though...one day.

Vacuum hoses - pictures - need help
ComancheKrazy replied to tj21's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The hose won't fit there, its much smaller diameter. Does your picture 3 hose plug into an adapter I'm missing, or is it direct fit into the picture 2 nipple? The picture 3 hose is on the picture 2 nipple, but i just went out to look at it and it's been forced on their and is split so really isn't doing any good. My other jeep the previous owner has plugged the line with a screw and that nipple has been plugged as well. Concerning the orange wire hanging behind alternator, that plugs into a fitting behind the ac compressor. On mine two small hard lines run from the top of the ac compressor, down the back of it and the orange cable plugs in there. -

That hose in the 3rd picture goes onto that nipple in the second picture. That's how mine is. As for the first picture, I don't know. My engine compartment is set up different than yours. Where your redish/orange hose plugs onto that silver bell looking deal (looks like some sort of heater part), mine hose has been plugged and I don't have that silver part. My black hose goes straight to firewall. -
Fuel pump is in your gas tank. Come to think of it, I've never taken out the fuel pump in my jeep lol....have done it plenty in these dang ford escorts. You should have somebody help you that knows some stuff about it.

The Comanche was the ONLY mid-size truck of its early era... The S-series and Rangers were both mini-trucks at that point.. and the Japanese just built toy trucks at that time. Ah, thanks for the correction.

Got the mj to start. then played around with vacuum hoses and throttle body and electrical connections. Got to play exterminator as well, found a couple of wasp nests near the firewall and one under the power steering pump. friggin wasps..... :shake:

What's wrong with Fram

Well I know I'm not going to be buying any fram stuff lol. I think I have a fram air filter though. Wix sounds like the way to go I suppose. -
Where to buy parts?
ComancheKrazy replied to Patriotic Sheepdog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
cool, I'm going to have to go check out that site now. -
I could have swore I read this somewhere, but didn't MJ have a better payload, towing, and performance rating than ALL of the other competing mid-size pickups of that generation?

Where to buy parts?
ComancheKrazy replied to Patriotic Sheepdog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No problem. I think those are the only two on ebay as of right now. Thats all that came up for me anyways. Glad I could help. I love to help people as much as I can, especially if it's going to help their mj :brows: -
Got off work, came home, lowered the tailgate, sat on it with my buddy and we drank some beer till it started raining like 15 minutes later. :rotf: I got a lot accomplished today haha :smart:

Where to buy parts?
ComancheKrazy replied to Patriotic Sheepdog's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Found you a pair man. 30 bucks for each, well 35. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/COMANCHE ... ccessories http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/COMANCHE ... ccessories Of course that will end up being around 100 bucks. 35 for each one, so 70 there, then with shipping. Might be around 100 for both, but not too bad for just one. -
Fuel gauge started playing games! Usual suspects?
ComancheKrazy replied to Jerry's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had a problem like this a year or so ago with my jeep. I filled it up and it only read half a tank. Did that for a couple of weeks then fixed itself. I don't know...the arm might have gotten stuck or something. I'm lucky though. Hope you figure it out. -

The truck was 700.00 to start, and we have put about 900.00 in is for painting the truck and repairing the engine (and other new parts). We still need to purchase the carpet but are waiting to see if all the leaks have been solved first. I can't even begin to value the man-hours...but its been a labor of love :D I was guess that you had easily put a couple grand into this truck. It looks amazing, just all around great work. You have given me inspiration for my MJ haha. Once again, great job. -

I wanted to buy a cheap truck just to get me by because some careless driver pulled out in front of me and totalled my XJ I loved so much(seriously ask my girlfriend!!). After looking briefly at '90-'92 Ford Rangers I thought "hey Jeep made a truck!" and started searching for one. I found a nice looking 2wd 4.0L one that I liked so after many questions and a language barrier I decided just to drive and see it for myself. I borrowed my good friends truck and trailer and my girlfriend and I were off. When parked at a gas station for a pit stop a guy was walking back to his car after paying for his fuel when something rare caught his eye. He gave it a look and then stopped and looked back at the truck on the trailer. His second look is what will always stick with me and it warmed my heart. After returning 21 hours later round trip I decided to restore it. As some of you know my girlfriend has been an inspiration and the driving factor to the project. So to answer your question, it's not the most expensive car that gets people excited, it's the unique one that many people can relate to and find tasteful. Thus why I restored the truck, and I have countless stories of head turners and the look in their eyes is priceless. On the very rare occasions that I do see an MJ, I almost completely stop what I'm doing and stare at it, time seems to stand still. :rotf: Seriously I do though. These trucks are unique and rare. Which is partially why I love 'em.

I've driven a few jeeps and it seems that their brakes aren't a quick to fully stop as other cars. They aren't horrible by any means, I've grown comfortable with my MJ's breaking habit. They bad thing is when I'm driving another vehicle. :rotf: Whenever I go to apply the brake, out of habit I break the same as I do in my jeep...lets just say I've about beat my brain silly by my forehead almost playing my steering wheel like a drumset. Not only that but people must think I'm crazy cuz I start to apply the break WAY before the stop sign. I love my jeep.

How much money do you think it took you to complete this project? Also beautiful truck. -
My first vehicle was my Comanche. It didn't cost me a dime (to become the owner)...I don't know how much money I've dumped into it hahaha. JEEP...Just empty every pocket....it that aint the truth I don't know what is :brows: It was given to me by my adopted dad. I absolutely fell in love with it. I don't care what anyone sais. I'm told all the time I should scrap it/sell it/junk it ect. People just don't understand Jeep love. I'll eventually get this baby going good again.

ComancheKrazy replied to SW86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My 2.5 has that plastic valve cover. To be honest I hate the plastic valve covers. Mine is cracked from age and somebody tightening to much on some of the bolts I'd guess. Has plenty of small cracks almost around each bolt from what I can see, luckily the cracks are small enough where the oil leakage is miniscule. When I first got the jeep I looked for metal valve covers for the 2.5 but never could find any. Did they not offer any for that engine? -
Image Not Found 1986 Jeep Comanche Custom. 2.5L 4 Cyl. 4X4, 7 ft. bed, with the A904 chrysler 3 speed automatic tranny. (Don't let that snow over the rear wheel wells fool you...those things have more holes than a block of swiss cheese.) This is the only pic I could find. I'm going to have to take some more. She is often called the bee because it's yellow, white, and black. She's an awful rusty rig. My first vehicle, and I absolutely love her...of course other people think I love her too much...they don't understand a jeep owners' love for their vehicles I guess lol. One day I hope to have this baby lookin sharper than the day she came off the line. I am lucky, (if that's what you want to call it) :rotf: to know the vehicle's history and the previous owners history. When the truck was SOLD for the first time O'Reilly's had it as a company parts truck. The idiot :dunce: "the trucks driver" did all sorts of dumb stuff to it. Ripped the door mirrors off and put huge mirrors in that bolted to the middle of the door leaving holes after he removed them. Put tie downs along each side of the bed and didn't even level them so they are all cockeyed. My mom's first husband (I adopted him as my dad) kept hounding the guy because he wanted the truck. Finally he got it for around 500 dollars I believe. Like I said previously the first driver took the big mirrors back off, so it had no mirrors what-so-ever. :rotf: After buying it from the guy, he went to a mini car lot and stole mirrors off a Cherokee. :rotfl2: He lets his daughter drive it to school because he finds a blue '87 Comanche, with the 2.8 in it. The truck has a bedliner that was also on the tailgate... She decides to drive with the tailgate down and I'm not really sure what happened, but all I know is that the tailgate ended up coming off dispensing of the liner, and in the process tore the tail gate a new....yeah. It's bent out of shape and very rusty due to the abrasions. :fool: He probably has owned the vehicle since the mid to late 90's. I acquired it in '07. It drove ok, but it's age caught up. I've gotten another vehicle since then, and don't drive the Comanche. I'm also learning about working on vehicles from my "adopted dad". I'm learning a lot so I can't wait to start bringing my baby back to life. I'm also glad to have found this site, and look forward to communicating with you all. I'm sure I will have lots of questions when I start working on the ol' Bumble Bee in the future.

Anyone looking for bed-side Patch Panels?
ComancheKrazy replied to jpnjim's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Just as I was feeling down about "ye old rust bucket", this topic has picked me up. I can tell I'll be dumping a lot of money in Zach's direction within the next year haha. I'll be getting the bed sides, floor pans, rocker panels, and cab corners if he has 'em.
