    Gas Tank Fun

I was hoping to get one overnight, I ordered it from Advance auto parts. They promised it overnight. It was $199 and some change, with my city Firefighter's 10% discount. More than I found on the internet, but sometimes time is money. Might add-Yes it's rusted on the inside, the more I turned the nuts on the straps, the more it broke loose, the drip turned into a steady stream, odd. I believe the truck sat awhile. The ex manifold was broken in 3 pieces and was very loud when I bought it. I believe the PO just parked it until he traded it in, it had a mouse nest in it and there was a huge stash of acorns under the hood. A shame, $100 and a little wrenching took care of the manifold. His loss, my gain.

    Gas Tank Fun

4x4 gas tank sprung a leak. I ordered a new one, so I took the old one out today. Simple job, I thought. First bolt I went take out of the skid plate, just spun, usually no problem, just get out the grinder, but no, I was swimming in gas.Nutsert came loose. I had to cut, bend the frame rail because it wasn't wide enough to get a vise grip on the nutsert. Thank goodness, it was the outermost bolt or I would have to cut holes in the bed to get the others. I wanted to avoid any cutting. Whats the deal with these tanks? It was a shiny as a new spoon. Guess it rusted from the inside. There, I feel better. Hope everybody's day went better. Of course I can't complain It's all down hill now. :D Image Not Found
  3. Distinct possibility, happened on my 4x4. But my 2wd is dry as a bone back there. So, I'll be doing the rear main on it. Isn't there a double lip seal available? Or for that matter an offset one for a grooved crank shaft?
  4. [quote name= Sorry for having so many' date=' I kinda went pic happy from finally getting the 86 back.[/quote] We like pics.
  5. Sorry, I was in a hurry when I posted that. Both of mine have nuts on the JEEP letters and there are small screws holding the trim above and below the grill.
  6. Nuts on the JEEP. Screws on the other trim. Not hard to remove the header panel, to get to them.
  7. I ordered from a parts store in town. Paid a little more, but no freight. edit. I was just surprised to find these available somewhere other than the dealer, I wasn't really intending to order from that company. I will remember what you said, I've dealt with a few others just as bad. I knew that Dorman products are available from any parts store, and now I know that NAPA carries them in their Echlin brand as well. So anybody needing these can get them cheaper and overnight. :D
  8. I went with the Dorman parts, couldn't make my self go to NAPA. (Used to work there in college). Paid $48 with tax. Paid almost $90 wholesale for the last ones (MOPAR) I bought. The rear tube was completely stopped up. So, removal of the valve cover is next. Wish I had planned for it, would have done it today at work also.
  9. Keep us posted. I'm very interested in your swap. I've always liked the 242 in my Grands. Hope you're doing the swap soon. Good luck! Are you starting with a 2wd?
  10. 97+-Been done, look in pic section. Awesome mod.

    Got Snow???

Better you than me! :D No really, I enjoy a little snow now and then, but you all go a little overboard.
  12. Thanks for the Echlin numbers, I may just do that. I payed $85 or so for the MOPAR numbers last year on the other Comanche from the dealer, wholesale. I thought that was pretty good for the results I got. It had a blowby problem. I replaced the exhaust manifold yesterday on the new Comanche, and broke several tubes and found many rotted elbows. I don't know how it ran. I patched them up, but want to replace them.
  13. http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/catalog ... 941k586584 Stumbled onto this looking foir the MOPAR #'s. Price is certainly right. I was going to order another set for the newest Comanche. I think I'll try a set of these unless someone has neg. experience with these.
  14. I love these little trucks, they are a blast. I could drive anything and I choose to drive these. Even the people who were laughing aren't anymore. And, I'm having fun. It's fun fixing them up a little at a time and seeing the results. Some of the problems I have had, I had on both when I bought them. Exhaust manifolds cracked, no biggie, for someone with some experience. Electrical gremlins, namely turn signals, indicater lights staying on with the lights turned on, interior lights, bad speakers, stuff like that. Really just stuff you would find on any car this old. And, boy, do they get run through the mill, and seem to be none the worst for wear. The good news, just like the good ole days, nothing that can't be figured out with a test light and a little elbow grease and a little help from your forum friends. Ken
  15. A few updated pics of round one and two. Frontend replaced, straightened fender, needs to be replaced in time, spot painting here and there, need to deal with rear main seal(when I catch my breath), and ex manifold on order, got everything working, making a nice DD. Lift on 4x4, something to wheel again :D .
  16. Yeah, I dropped the ball. I was going to use some Grand UpCountry springs, that I had laying around, but decided to get some 3 inch springs instead. I didn't want to install the springs and have to take it apart and add a spacer to make up the difference. I'm lazy.

    Avro Arrow

Aircraft nut here also, but you're killing me, I just got red x's. Edit Getting them now. Did you change the link?
  18. Best I can do tonight, I'm poopedx2. Image Not Found
  19. weight? the heavier it is the more it can move the springs around i would imagine. I'm talking about on jackstands, wuth the axle drooping. I couldn't even remove the stock springs without, without discoing the swaybar, tracbars, and using a spring compressor. Never did it on a Grand. Just curious, cause they're basically the same up front, maybe just my truck.
  20. May need one as well, my gauge is doing alot of jumping. But, I'm ****hole deep in a lift install right now.
  21. Yes, indeed. Thanks again. Got 2 extras also. Thats off the list, now I'm installing lift on the 4x4, winding up on that, break time, had to download instructions for JKS discoes I had leftover from the ZJ days. Broke a swaybar link, good exuse to use discoes. :D Wondering.....why does an XJ/MJ flex so much less than a ZJ, first time I had to disconnect trac bars to install springs on a JEEP.
  22. Wanted to say Thanks to PeteM. Went the pull a part and got a "black box" for my wipers. Can scratch that off the list.
  23. I like the guy who asked where to buy WalMart lights.
  24. Wondered what that box was for. Thanks!
