Thats also what I have been doing all day is just using the motor to shift without the clutch. But I guess we will see how it acts in the morning. Cole

Well the thing is if I do get stranded I will be on base so It would be easy to get home. :D I figured it wouldnt last to much longer but if I can finish out this week and a couple of days here and there I will be fine. I just wanted to know if anyone had heard of it only leaking in the cold???? OH well I guess Ill add it to the TO BUY list. :brows: Cole

OK so I head to Training this morning at 5:00am already pissed cause its 5:00am and I hate getting up early but anyways I get in my truck after the cold night we had I cranked it up to let it warm a little but I noticed my clutch pedal felt wierd. Well I headed out and as I drove it started getting lower and lower. when I got where i was going I checked and the resivior was dry.....Soooo I looked under it and saw a soaking wet tranny and transfer case. Obviously a leak has sprung badly. My issue is I refilled it just a little bit ago and its doing fine. Here comes the QUESTION can a real cold temp cause seals to leak in the slave cylinder???? Or something of that nature??? Just a thought because it didnt do it until it started getting cold. I am going to replace it anyways but not until mid summer cause I want be here to drive it. I just need to know if it will last about another month of driving?? Cole

OK the axle is at my dads now and I can't wait to tear into it. I guess Ill have to go with 4.88s since my Dana-Turdy front can't handle the awesome power of 5.38s  Anyone know a cheap and strong MJ-44 matching front I could throw in???? :brows: BTW i can't tear into this until mid summer for reasons stated above but be sure there will be a long write up on the build.Cause plenty of  and a good long weekend and she will be riding nice. And while we are on this topic of the sandbox Thanks for everyones support I usally don't like to mention I'm in the military because everyone thinks I am special But let me tell you this There is only a few differences between me and the average person.....some of you do more for people than they really know and if Ya'll didnt do your job there wouldnt be this great country with all the nice stuff we have to even consider protecting. We would be just another poor country if you didnt work your @$$'s off doing what you do. But Thanks again for the support cause not many people are behind the US forces anymore. It makes me proud and I'm sure all the others in the Military that you are here backing our fight. Ill get down now but don't ever think the Military is all that holds this country together you help more than you know.. ...........But back on topic if anyone knows a good front I should put in I am all ears for improvement. I know the Low pinion 30s will take up to 5.38s but I don't want Low pinion cause then other problems will arise that I don't want to deal with. Ill keep you posted. Cole

Just working out the details and I will own it. :brows: But Does any one know what the lowest gear the D30 front can take in our trucks. As stated before I know there is some 30s that can handle 5.38s and I would like to go as low as possible so I don't have to do it again plus My poor 2.5 needs a brake  Cole
-
I have to regear anyways and I am going to 4.88s or lower hopefully but I don't want to put more than 350 in it cause I could get a 8.8 for 200 I know for sure. I know some D30s can go as low as 538 or something like that but i can't remember if its the MJ ones. I will check on the drums and I sent an offer of 100 to him cause it needs put back together. Everyone cross your fingers for me. I might be rolling at 60 without downshifting for a bump soon. Cole

You can't body lift a MJ they are unibody and this Post should be in tech really. But welcome to the club as for the lift and tires You should consider SOA (spring over axle) rear and making a bastard lift out of different companies parts for the front to match and then most guys run 33s with that and they usally get about 5"s of lift with a standard SOA setup. Hope you understand this since your new to 4x4 stuff if not ask what I'm talking about and Someone will help you more. Again Welcome Cole

I found a MJ D44 for $120 all I will need is gears. So I ask you guys should I do it or not. I would love to have one and Its already setup and i can put gears in. I need you advice is it worth it. Cole

I have used evry single kind of wal-mart spray paint to stop that rust but it don't seem to be stoping so I have decided to take some JB weld and a piece of decently thick sheet metal And I am going to see if I can rivet it over top of the handle with some JB weld underneath to help otu. ;) Should hold for awhile then and then I might get me a new tailgate cause mine is worped really bad. Anyway thanks for the comments glad everyone think the wal-mart camo looks so good. Cole

Or shift the bench to the drivers side and use the extra room for a spare parts storage. Sounds good to me But I only have one bucket in right now cause I have to beg and lie and trick my wife into riding with me anyways. Cole

Testimony of an AMC Inline-4 owner
JOMJ87 replied to Kenosha Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Check for a locker in it if its jumpy in corners. All you need to do is pull the cover on the diff and there it is. Also not trying to lecture you by no means BUT I also have a 2.5 and HAD a 4 speed. Yes mine would lay rubber and I could grab all gears except 4th(could on wet pavement) I loved doing it in high school. But a word of warning is INsert my wonderful story here>>> Ok one day I was leaving a friends house and hit the pavement as I wound 1st tight I slammed it into 2nd then 3rd BUT when it hit third there begun a clanking vibrating noise. and it was loud and vibs got bad once i got to a place to pull over I checked everything out and it looked good so I called my dad and he said to limp home. up to 45 was horrid but after that it smoothed out. I get home and to me and my dads surprise the hogshead on the rear was twisted at a nice and almost straight upward angle. I don't know if this ever has happened to anyone else but my dad said in all his years of weekends at the drag strip he has never seen this happen. We then corrected it to close to normal.(shortened the end ;) ) But then 6 months later the input shaft (or output can't remember which) shredded most of its teeth on my way to school thus fulling teaching me a lesson. Sorry for the long story but just trying to warn you that your axle SUCKS and the Tranny can't take all the abuse that us kids can dish out. Again this isnt a lecture just thought Id share. Cole -

That is one nice setup on the manche.. Yall did great on this thing. You have to much work into this thing just to sell it over some wiresz and plastic needing replaced..IMO you should start a rebuild of the engine compartment and do a real nice write up in JP about it :brows: With all the guys on here that are so knowlegdable(???spelling???) about MJS you shouldnt have any questions that can't be answered. I know how bad rewire jobs can be but you can make a much simpler wire harness to eliminate the unused wires. But anyway goodluck with everything and Welcome to the Club... Cole

Thanks for the help I think this is the same guy maybe we should all email him and show him how it feels??? ;) :brows: :headpop:  :hateputers:   R_Walker Cole

I have run mine up the ramp till the tires lifted in the rear and no probs with it?????? Maybe I just got lucky but I am going to go Steel braided soon along with the rest of my brake parts being changed. Cole

Got a free Idea for you to try... Take the hardline clamp off that holds it on the body and straiten it out and remount it lower. I did it to mine and can try to get some pics tommorrow. I also think YJ lines are longer IIRC. Cole
