86 2.8 to 3.4 or 3.8 swaps
Greentoy replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
I understand that JeepCoMJ kept the SFI from F body car, but I don't see any info on the fact that the oil pans do not swap from 2.8 to 3.4 without keeping timing cover and STD water pump. Then you would not have proper crank sensor for SFI. What am I missing here? -
TBI or Carb? '86 2.5L to 3.4L upgrade

We're in the middle of this swap in an 85 XJ. Was your modification to the oil pan absolutely necessary? I ask because our plan is to lift the xj about 3 " and I wonder if that will give adequate clearance for the pan. Thoughts? -
I appreciate all the info on this topic. I ended up getting lucky and finding a fitting on a 4.0 core at a local salvage yard this afternoon. [emoji106][emoji106] So now everything goes together really well! Still wonder what vehicle ever had the 2.5 with an 18mm thread for filter since I can’t find any filters with that thread at my local parts store. [emoji2369] thanks again! So, I was able to get it off and I’m guessing that I do have the 3/4 size if I understand the pictures properly. Looking at the fitting though it doesn’t seem so bad. Is this minor wear enough to make the filter so loose? Guess I need to go get something 3/4 to compare. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good evening all! I have a 94 (I think) 2.5 in my 88 MJ. Shortly after I got it, I changed the oil/ filter(stp) and when I ran the truck, the oil filter popped of dumping all the oil out (not fun). I went back to the parts store thinking I had a bad filter, exchanged it for a wix and it seemed to go on ok. I've done a few changes since then with no issues, but today I went to do another change still using wix filter and they won't tighten up (I've tried 2). I think that my threads may be stripped. It seems that the threads may be an adapter threaded into the block. Does this part unscrew from the block to be replaced? Does anyone know where i can get the part? or the part #? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey guys I was just searching posts to see if anyone answered this before and I came across this thread. I need a low pressure switch for my 88 Comanche with 2.5. It has the dryer mounted switch. I went to all my local parts stores and they show a switch with male fittings on the switch. Mine is a male fitting on the dryer which means I need a female fitting on switch. Does anyone know the part number for the proper switch I need? Thanks in advance. Here is a pic of my dryer fitting (sorry for the poor focus).

Need Help - Dashboard Replacement and Adding A/C

I hadn’t either, but as soon as I swapped the full Gage cluster in place of the dummy lights, my alternator quit charging. I figured it was a bad alternator since it took a few days to run out of juice and die. Replaced alternator and still no charging. The cluster I picked up was on a YJ with v6 I believe. The alternator on both the 4.0 and 2.5 both need an exciter wire circuit in order to start charging. That is handled by the light in the dummy cluster and somehow must be handled by a diode built into the gauge cluster. I suppose it is possible that the v6 models use a different alternator that did not require an exciter wire. In that case maybe the cluster does not have it or my cluster diode was burned out? It was easier for me to add a simple one wire exciter wire right under the hood rather than disassemble the cluster.

This truck was originally automatic? I would have never known! Whoever did the conversion, did a great job.

Congratulations! That is a great accomplishment! I never had the opportunity to do scouting growing up since we didn’t have a good troop near us at the time. I am currently the Troopmaster for a Trail Life USA troop here in west Texas. (TLUSA came out of BSA in 2014 when the board split) It has been an amazing experience to do with my son. We are getting ready for our annual 50 mile/5 day canoe trip through Big Bend National Park. It’s one of my favorite trips we do all year. What was your freedom project? Jesse J, I just saw that gladiator bumper, and I like it too! I really am a terrible MJ owner! LOL

$40 for the pair! You did good!

Thank You. I have had some people really hate on it on another thread. (cardinal sin or something?) Most have liked it though. I like it, and that is all that matters. Cost $55 instead of $250-350 each on ebay for oem.
