I would get a filler on that ASAP. Better safe than sorry. -
motor Qs and cooling system Qs.

If your running the 4.0 rad now how did you get fluid in there? You will have to put a filler neck in the upper hose. These can be bought from summit racing or get an upper rad hose for a newer durango with a 4.7. The put a filler neck and rad cap in the upper hose. IAC is a little black box looking thing that has a bolt sticking out and it pushes on the throttle linkage next to the throttle body. It takes about about 20 mins to install with no special tools required. -

As far as the idling/ oil pressure issue goes I would say your IAC is not working right. I have an 89 2.5 4 speed and just had the same problem but my injector was also stuck open. Replaced the idle air control and problem solved. No more near stalling and I have a cold high idle back. Now for your cooling/ radiator a 4.0 radiator can be put in but is alot of work. Your shroud won't fit, fan will be to far from the radiator to even work. It sounds like you also have a radiatir out of a renix that doesnt have a cap on it. In the closed style system the bottle is under pressure. You will need tofigure out a way to get a cap in there. One option would be a durango upper hose filler. Honestly the best bet would be to just to sell the 4.0 rad and go and go buy yourself a new 2.5 radiator and save the headaches before thay start. Just my .02 -
Not saying an MJ is a nascar but IMHO discs have many advantages over drums. Cleaner, work better, no adjustments required, don't pack up with mud and water four wheelin. Easier to replace the pads, and the brake pedal feels so much better than drums.

I will do. I am planning on making it out there with my MJ. He keeps pushing but I just havent had the time. One of these days I be four wheelin in Colorado.

He is a great guy. I have known him for years. I just chatted with him this afternoon he is back here in Iowa for the holidays. This week he a friend of his are building bumpers and a longarm for his XJ that he has now. He is to blame for this Jeep illness I now have.

Check out NAXJA alot guys over there have use Crown Vic rear disks on 44s. I know the bolt pattern for the brackets from a Grand Cherokee don't line up. HTH

The 92 you just bought came from a friend of mine out there in the Loveland area. I have the original box of that one on my 91. What a small world. How did John treat ya?

This one is only the second one I have ever seen. If I had my tax refund it would be in my driveway.

I had the afternoon off today plus the next 3 days. So I went out into the shop and started stripping down the XJ a little farther RenixPower was out last night till I don't what time gutting interior stuff for his buddies XJ. I got the dash almost out and the engine wiring harness needs about twenty minutes more of my time to be free from the XJ. I also started removing the ABS wiring from the harness. Sure am glad I have alldata for wiring diagrams. Earlier in the week my Mopar perches for 8.25 showed up, S10 leaves are outof a parts truck for my add a leaf, and my 3 inch coils arrived also. Last but not least a friend came home from Colorado, he works at a you pull it yard there. I scored my ZJ rear disc brake brackets for 25 bucks. A local JY has the calipers for a whopping 20 for the pair. So all the parts are gathering quick about time to make an MJ what they all should have been. -
I wasn't real sure about a black interior. Seemed like it would be to dark for me and hard to keep clean. I do have to say it looks very good in your MJ though.

If I remember right it was a 90 or 91.

I got some progress pics here Image Not Found Image Not Found Here I got my Soft 8s and some 31s on it. I got some different tires for it on my donor 92 XJ. It came on brand new 31s. Image Not Found A shot of the stripped former 2.5 engine bay. Image Not Found Image Not Found Here is the oily 4.0 I yanked out of the POS ZJ. Planning on a good cleaning followed by some gaskets and seals. Then to top it off with a Krylon Black rebuild. Plus maybe a 99 up intake and my APN header. Image Not Found Here is the XJ donor. Sitting on my hoist was planning to get motor and such out today but Christmas stuff took to much of my time. Oh well maybe tomorrow night. -
A couple years ago we swapped a blown 2.8 for a different one in an 86 XJ. We swapped over the serpentine belt directly from the S10 donor. We used the same power steering pump with the XJ hoses. Just had to rewire the altenator for the different style plug. Hope that helps

Well I got the 4.0 pulled outof the ZJ today. What a pain in the @$$. I have pulled lots of 4.0s out of XJs but never again will I pull one from a ZJ. Anyways while I got it out I am gonna replace the rear main and swap the oil pan out for the one off the XJ. The ZJ has the oil level sensor for the VIC. Need to swap the oil filter housings so new Orings will go in as well as a valve cover gasket. New water pump and 97-up heater hoses and the list goes on. Gonna swap intakes and install my APN header that I got for RenixPower along while ago. Planning on pulling out the motor/tranny/t-case out of the 92 XJ limited donor tomorrow. Gotta pull this one the nice way since I am using this harness for the swap. After its on the floor I will prolly start in on the dash. What a fun christmas day ahead of me tomorrow. I have two questions I wanna throw out there for you guys perspective on. While I have this engine out and on the stand should I throw a head gasket in it? I would only take about 30 mins now about 25 bucks for the gasket. Also I am thinking about ditching the mechanical fan for a couple of electric ones. Has anyone elso on here done this before on a MJ with a 4.0. Let me know what you think. Later -
One thing I do when I am chasing an electrical short in a cicuit that helps. I take a standard flasher and put wires on it to plug it into the fuse box. That way it only sends power through there ins short flashes and won't burn nothing up. Still allows you look around for the problem with burning yoour Jeep to ground. HTH

ax5 2wd to 4wd swap. couple questions?
comancheon33 replied to bhorocks's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Changing to external slave is easy. It is just a brake line that connects from the master line to the slave. 231 should bolt right up the tranny as long they both are 21 spline. Make sure to check out the transfer case input length. If they arent the same it will leak out of the back of the tranny. I ran into this when I converted an 88 from a 2wd to 4wd. It turned into a PITA quick. You may have to swap the 207 input into the 231 at the most. If you decide to leave the 207 you just have to swap on a regular front yoke on to it to put a regular style driveshaft in there. Its all pretty much bolt in and not that hard to do at all. Good luck. -

Looking really good. Whats your plans for a front bumper? -
I am guessing your is a 2wd. 4wds have a tophat style rotor and unit bearings. Early 2wds used packable bearing in a hub/rotor combo.

Renix 2.5 Idle issues
comancheon33 replied to comancheon33's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well here is a short update. The comanche was running way way rich. I pulled out my timing light to watch the injector spray downthe throttle body. It was pouring out of there. I pulled the injector to check the o rings. They looked like new so I went out to a parts MJ and robbed the injector from it. Slammed that in and overfueling is gone. In fact runs better than ever. The idle air control was replaced by the PO but it is junk already. It is jammed down. Once it warms up a touch I will rob it off the parts truck and hope for the best. So now I got my gas milage back but the idle is still low for now. Thanks for the help. -
Wheel bearing replacement
comancheon33 replied to Tonedef131's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine are greasable in my 91 and will be in my 88. I do oil changes on my hoist and use a long needle greaser to make it easier on myself. Plus my 91 mostly gets wheeled only, so after a long weekend of wheelin I like being able push any possible crap out of the joints. Just my thoughts. -
Out with the 2.8 in with the 2.5
comancheon33 replied to Snowplow's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs

Valve Cover Interchangeability
comancheon33 replied to 1987Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I scored my 2.5 valve cover off a 94 YJ off ebay for 15 bucks. Best thing I ever did to my 89. Now i need to replace the distributor base gasket and my leaks should be history.
