I was trolling around on a local radio stations want ads on Sunday evening. Stumbled across an listing and 89 Comanche for 400 bucks with no description and it was 6 days old. After thinking about for about an hour I decided to call him. He was an older guy that is very upset with the truck and wants it gone. He bought about 6-8 months ago and has had nothing but issues with it. He bought with mild damage to body and it would not run. Says it goes through about 2 gallons of gas per mile and will only run when floored. He had replaced the fuel pressure regulator and map sensor with no improvment. Told me on the phone 200 cash its yours I am going to buy something with a carb on it. F&%k this fuel injected stuff. Needless to say 5 o'clock at work today couldn't come soon enough. I headed his way which was about an hour from me. When I show up its a decent 2wd SWB Pioneer 4.0 auto with rust on the rear wheelwells and a little on the rockers. Gray with a burgandy interior bench seat and column shift with tilt. 149k on the ticker. Needless to say I can't say no to any comanche under 500. I bought so it makes number 6 comanche of mine in the yard. Planning on pulling in the shop tomorrow night and see what its gonna take to get it running right. If it goes will use it to replace my current work beater 89 2.5 4 speed. I will post up progress and pics in the next couple days.

Factory roll bars rock. I love mine for sure.

Trust I wasn't out for long the torch made quick work of it. The poor junk MJ got the box all cut up today. I took the rollbar out the easy way.

4wd conversion questions
comancheon33 replied to tkgibbs27's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Costs me 100 bucks to have an XJ driveshaft retubed to fitan MJ everytime. I have done this twice now. Both time the factory shaft was the rubber filled POS. -
Bringing the rollbar home tomorrow afternoon. I will post up some pics.

If it had a factory alarm it would be flashing lights and honking the horn. If yours had a security system find the light green wire with an orange tracer coming form the security module and ground it. That will make the security think the key is in the drivers door lock. HTHs

Will I didint have enough light to get pics tonite after work. I went over and got the taillight, some of the interior stuff, and the carpet pulled out. I forgot my T55 to get the seatbelts so most of the interior is still in there. Oh well I will get tomorrow. Plus I am gonnatalk to the guy and see about maybe getting the rear driveshaft and fuel pump sending unit also. I prolly won't have time till Saturday after work to get the rollbar out. I only work till noon on Saturday. What a score I say. I swear I don't look for this stuff it comes to me. He also has an 86 XJ sitting there with a 2.8 auto 4x4 with 4.10s. I think I might buy the front axle out of it for another MJ I got on the way. He wants 400 for the whole XJ but enough parts there to sell and break even. Dunno see what tomorrow brings I am going to look at another 88 XJ for parts after work. I might get lucky you never know.

I started a new job just before christmas as some of you may know. The shop I now work @ is right across the stret from where I haul in my stripped down XJs. Anyways Thursday I see an MJ go across the scale up side down in the back of a junk F250. I went over there today because they had unstacked them. It is a 91 4x4 SWB. Make a long story short I bought a bunch of parts off it. Left taillight, bucket seat brackets, gray interior stuff, fuel pump sending unit, factory AW$ 4x4 rear driveshaft and last but not least, A FACTORY SWB ROLLBAR. To make it even better it all dinged me $30 cash TOTAL. I love it. Now thats a good trip to the JY. What you all think?

upgrade from np207 to np231 on an ax5 tranny
comancheon33 replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If anything I think you can swap the 207 input into the 231. I ran into the problem of the t case input not seating into the seal on an 88 I converted to 4wd a year ago. I ended up going to my local u pull it and taking the tailhousing out of an 89 2.5 AX5 and swapping it on to my 86 AX5 I got from a junkyard on carpart. HTH -
Third Brake light. Maybe?
comancheon33 replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have thought about this before also. I have thought about using a mid 90s GM truck one though. That way I could have a cargo light also. -
I have ground the end of the shifters diameter down to just over 1/2 before. Then took my 1/2 die and ran my own threads down it. As an extra bonus it shortens the shifter throw a little at the same time. Good Luck

Now you got me thinking about lowering my next 4 banger. I like it for something different. The 17s is what makes the ride for sure.

Project LONG ARMED Manche, Now bed chopped
comancheon33 replied to DrThunder's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Man that crossmember looks scary. Stop what your doing and throw that away. It will never hold. Its only thin sheetmetal and only has 4 bolts holding it in there. You need to build a new crossmember with way more bolts than holding it in there. The forces of the suspension will rip that right out from under. Hurting yourself and possibly other because you built an awesome long arm off of a POS crossmember. I am knocking your skills everything else looks great but that. On everything else keep up the great work. -
I have used front XJ rotors and calipers and weld on brackets before on the rear of an XJ with a 44. It stopped better than the drum brakes but no better than my ZJ rear discs. If drum brakes are so great why 99% of the new cars and trucks on the road using four wheel disc? Why is every featured vehicle in any magazine have 4 wheel disc? The proof is out there that wheel disc shortens stopping distance. Disapate heat faster, less likely to get pedal fade. On and on. If like your drums thats great use them. They do work but I will still say swapping them out the best awnser for me. I prefer disc or drum. Thats my preference.

You should be able to find it on summit that way. Durango hoses started with the filler in hose around 02. May have to call the dealer on that not real sure. The filler should have a place for an overflow hose. If you use the port on the rad it will be under pressure so don't use it. It will not work.
