Drivetrain Suggestions Please

Not to :hijack: but the 3800 reminded me of another far off possiblity. Doubt it could be made to work though. You want some real power? Look no further. -
Ran Champions in the 2.5 for a year until I did a tune-up last week. Swapped to Autolites to see if there's any noticable difference. I haven't noticed any. I would just go with Champions, honestly. It's what AMC recommended in my owner's manual from way back when, so there has to be some justification for it. :dunno:

Cleaning Fuel Injectors?
Zenobian_84 replied to diablo8511's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup. I'd recommend this. SeaFoam works wonders; believe it or not. It's the only additive I'll ever run in any of the vehicles I've worked on. I only run it through the system every 3 months or so. The truck seems to get back some pep whenever I run it though the fuel system; never used it in the block with my oil though. -

More updates! Tore apart the front end to do some much needed fixes. Namely, new headlights and headlight adjustment screws, fixing the wiring for the parking lamps, and new parking lamp housings. Oh, and do something about the horns. :ack: Summing up my experience with the Adjustment screws. They practically broke in half on me; somehow managed to get the new ones in. The top ones were a real PITA to install. :fs2: This was after I threw the other 2 away. Took Cruiser's advice and cleaned a lot of the electrical connections on the front end. My two new best friends. Shiny new parts! Closer inspections... Dual OEM horns installed; but not wired due to getting distracted. :dunno: :shake: All I have to do is run a few wires and they'll be good to go. Fixed the problems with the parking signals finally. Everything working as it should; and much brighter too. :chillin: -
No shame in the rattlecan paint jobs man. I've seen a few in my time that looked as good as a shop could do; it's all in the prep work anyway. Truck looks good!

Hmmm... interesting. You notice any leaks in the window on the newer doors you installed?

A few, little updates. Installed the new valve cover gasket. Cleaned up the valve cover while inside too. Another picture. The plug dangling next to the VC had started to melt; because it apparently was laying against it for some time. Still works though, thankfully. :thwak: Tools of the trade to get the door handles off / new ones cleaned up. :brows: Surprised the metal even lasted this long; considering the sorry shape the truck was in when I bought it. I wasn't really surprised here. One step closer to getting the final look down. -
Installed nifty XJ chrome handles yesterday; still have to polish 'em up though. I was looking at an old post by Shelbyluvv where he used aircraft-stripper to remove the black plastic surround on the weatherstripping pieces *EDIT* (on the door). Is there any other way besides using A-S to remove the trim? And if removed, does it affect the seal along the window? Curious minds would like to know; since I'm trying to step up my chrome game.

Decided to watch a few weather documentaries on my time off. Done by PBS back in '04, a documentary on "SuperTwisters" (typical show about how forecasting can improve / serious downsides if it doesn't; yadda yadda) Figure I'd post it on here just for anyone looking for a good watch. I'm such a nut for these types of things; it's only a shame that I'm not pursuing a career in meteorology. :dunno: Also, viewer discretion, some scenes are a bit... ugly to watch. :ack: I watched another video on the Greensburg, KS EF5 Tornado back in '07 and it got me thinking. People willing to piece back together their lives after living through something that horrible deserve all the credit in the world. More than some actor or famous music artist gets on a day-to-day basis. What I'm getting at is this: Don't ever take anything you cherish for granted. One day it can all be there, right in front of you; and the next day when you wake up, it's completely gone. Doesn't even have to be weather related either. Of course, I'm sure the good people of CC already know this though.

Yes, that's what I meant. Was thinking of the AW-4 when I posted that. -
Drivetrain Suggestions Please

IIRC, if you wanted, you could swap in a TBI version of the 2.8; don't know if it suffers the same bottom end issues as the carbureted version though. I believe Jim (Jimoshel) was going to do a TBI swap, but can't recall if he ever did or not. I thought about doing a swap to a 3.4 after spending time reading up on Pete's guide buried deep in the Tech forums; but it's not going to justify for being there with the very nominal gains in HP/Torque when it's all said and done. I'd be gaining only 30HP/50LB; more than I'd ever see with the 2.5, but not as much as I'd want. As told by Wikipedia.... "LL2" Another LL2 ("R-code") with throttle body fuel injection was produced from 1986 to 1993. Output of the TBI version was 125 hp. Applications: 1986–1993 Chevrolet S-10 / Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 1986–1993 GMC S-15 / GMC S-15 Jimmy 1989–1991 Isuzu Trooper I'm fairly certain that you can still retain your Carb. when you swap in a 3.4 liter. I've seen others do it before, so I'm assuming it's not a hard thing to do; I'm not sure what's required to make it work though, aside from being clever and handy with knowhow. :dunno: IIRC, the 2.8 only came with the AX-5 and the A904 (3 Speed auto w/ overdrive) tranny the 2.5s got. You do not want a 3 speed, automatic overdrive; no matter how nice it is. As far as transfer-cases go, I believe the 2.8 only received the Command-Trac (Part-Time 4WD) system. Since the 2.8 / 3.4 has a GM bellhousing, you might be able to swap in an S-10 transfer case system, but I don't know if the input shafts are going to be a problem, since it will have a totally different spline count / possibly differ with positioning it on the frame to match the MJ's setup. -
Gotta love a yellow MJ   I bet you could easily get $1500 MINIMUM out East based on looks alone; but as previously stated, you won't be getting much at all out West for it. If it's mechanically sound, and runs like a top, shifts on the fly, and has a lot of pep; clearing 2k won't be a foreseeable problem.. as long as the buyer doesn't want to knock $400 off for the rust. :ack:

Getting back to work on the 242 diagram for the 4.0 guys. Should have something out soon; hopefully. :dunno:

Finally had my first overheating problem the other day. Apparently a loose hose resulted in a slow coolant loss over the course of a few months. Drove it home for lunch, and left it on for 5 minutes (just under 210) while I grabbed something inside the house. Came back outside and it was already at 245 and still climbing. Flushed the rad and block and put new coolant inside; tightened everything else as well. No mo' leaks, and still running like a champ! :brows: -
Alexia's 1987 To 1997 Comanche

Very nice! I thought about doing something like this a while back with the bed, but decided against it due to time and money constraints. Might do it when I fix the floors though... -
*watches the '89 Laredo commercial* Oh the irony. :shake:

Had the truck sitting for the last two days while I've been working. Finally got the jump on it and changed out the valve cover gasket. Runs smooth as silk now. Only thing left is to change the differential fluid and call it a day. :MJ 1: Still waiting for my order from Morris4x4 to come in. Got 4 headlights adjustment screws for about 8$ cheaper than TeamCherokee. -

A very messy day yesterday. Gave the old beast a partial tune up. Oil, plugs, air filter, oil filter, and fuel filter. Still have the differential to flush, along with the valve cover gasket to swap. So, I bet you're saying I was in dire need of an oil change. You'd be correct. Came out partially frothy, but had the consistency and smell of oil; so you can imagine the nice words I was using watching the stuff come out into the drain pan. No antifreeze or water detected inside the pan, at least. :dunno: Runs better now that the new filter and oil are in, at least. Also, those little twigs in the oil dropped in after I pulled it out from under the truck. I love doing my work on the grass... :fool: The "White" Purolator Classic filter was about black from all the oil stains and smudges on it. Nice fresh white one on there now. :brows: Cylinder 1 Cylinder 2 Cylinder 3 Cylinder 4. Will use these pictures to compare the Champions to the Autolites in there now next year when I change plugs again. Air Filter. Thought I solved the Blowby problem, but it seems it came back within the last month or so. Probably due to that $#!&ty cork gasket messing up again. I'm aiming to fix this for good this time. :fs1: Nothing left for today 'cept to get ready for work tonight I suppose. :dunno: -
Hmm... very interesting.

Some rumors say they're coming out from Nevada. Some locals believe that's what they're housing inside of Area 51. Every few couple of months or so, 5-6 can be seen driving out into the desert; ending up for sale on the craigslist / local scene. Aliens? Hardly. Jeep Pickups, most likely. Probably the long lost remnants of die-hard AMC goers out there.
