Project "Honcho" - The '87 MJ
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Finally decided to paint the old girl, seeing as I have no other achievable things to do at the moment. Parked her over at my friend's outdoor "Paint Booth" :shake: Better than sitting out in the sun I guess. Naked Jeep. Well... almost naked, anyway. 25 years of dust under those letters. Toolbox out, and everything thrown around the bed. Used this stuff to get the SporTruck sticks off in no time flat. Well, that, and about 4 disposable razors. I thank my thumbs for their contributions. The horror! No identity. :fs1: Sanding. Lots of sanding. And of course, one of those random, FL typhoons decided to blow through. Impeding our progress that night. I should have known better than to put a first coat of paint on with about 3000% humidity in the air, but I really didn't want to sand down the new rust on over half the truck. So... we applied it, and a few hours later, I drove home. Unfortunately, I woke up the next morning to this. This is after I wiped down most of the still standing paint. It didn't look half this good when I first saw it, believe me. :headpop: :wall: No rain thank goodness the next day. Just a lot of wind, and lots of summertime heat. Was the perfect mix of weather for outdoor working. After a quick sanding and smoothing, got some new paint put on with the help of a buddy and his GF. My truck isn't that "Canary", but my phone seems to think it is. It's more of a goldenrod (the actual color is "Afternoon Tea"  ). Just about an inch for inch color copy of this. ;) After working on and off on the truck for the past few days while juggling a contracting job, I decided to relax and play some classic Megaman II. Goddamn Dr. Wily stages. :fs1: Took a page out of RockMJ's book. Updated the look of my dash bezel. Looks loads now than with that old dark grey striping. Today, I got around to sanding / painting the roof and tailgate. No wind, and about a solid 95 degrees; celebrated afterwards with swimming in an ice cold pool. :chillin: Should have the rest of the painting down by Sunday, with pics to come, no less. -
Total clutch system replacement
Zenobian_84 replied to AMC-MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Had to have my 2.5 pressure plate (I believe) resurfaced, as it was such short notice; I couldn't snag another in time to be able to get back to work. Haven't had any problems yet *knock on wood* with it. Aside from a lot of cursing and swearing, a clutch system replacement isn't a huge problem. Just very, VERY time consuming... How 'ya been Mike? Been waiting to see some progress on that 343 Powered 'Manche for a while! :D  -
Making the rounds on my contractor's job, I went out to my local dump to, obviously, dump things off. Saw a nice, plain, white SWB 'Manche parked over on the employee parking area. Asked a guy that was working if he knew who's Jeep it was and I got the obligatory :dunno: Decided to sneak over and see what it had. Saw a nice grey bench with headrests, most likely Selec-Trac 4WD, and not much else; Sun was too bright :fs1: So, I left the owner a card with all the details. Hopefully, they'll show up on here soon.

Re-Applying "Laredo" Moldings?
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Alright, cool. Thanks guys  -
Cleaned these up recently (pictures are from before cleanup) and I was wondering what kind of adhesive you use to put these back on an XJ/MJ. Is it just 2 sided tape? Or something stronger? Seems like it would be some pretty heavy duty stuff.... :hmm: :dunno:
-
Yeah, I like them on here, but at my next tire buy, I'm going to see about snagging some Outlaw rims. These aren't bad looking rims if your truck has the right "look" for them, yknow?
-
5 Lug, 15" Ford Turbines. Factory 80's Town Car/ Crown Vic/ Grand Marquis wheels :ack: I've never seen these type of rims on any of those cars though.. :dunno: Adds to the rarity of my truck, I s'pose. :shake:

Due to unforeseen circumstances the last time I tried to get this thing off the ground, the MJ decided to throw a fit (literally) and break down at the last moment. So, I was unable to go. Plus, I happened to nab a lot of goodies that I've since thrown on it in the shoddy attempts to give it some character. :D For a FACT, this month, I plan on going, and promoting the website out to no end. :brows:  Got at least 25 CC cards to pass out, and I plan on printing at least another 20 fliers to hand out to those interested. If everything goes well, another 2 buddies of mine will follow in suit (one with an 86 Grand Prix, and the other with an 09 Challenger R/T), hopefully, our girlfriends will accompany as well. :brows: Will be posting my progress on the old girl here in the coming weeks. And, if any other Central FL MJ'ers want to show up, it's the last Saturday of this month (5/26) at Eustis Square (in Eustis). Would be really sweet to have a nice get together and make some of the other pickups jealous. ;) Also, as a teaser, one of the things I've picked up recently.

Project "Honcho" - The '87 MJ
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Not too much to report here, aside from the fact that I'm pretty close to getting another job. Am doing some mild restoration landscaping for a friend's uncle on his rent-house over in the Astatula area at the moment. Going to be nice getting that $200+ paycheck when it's all done later this week. ;) :brows: Decided to sit down a few days ago and make up a list of what I want to do with the truck. In no particular order, here it is. Should have been included in my first post, but like a dumb @$$, I didn't think about all this stuff. ---Wish List AKA Stuff To Buy--- Rear Slider - $160 ($190 after shipping) New Exhaust (Manifold -> Muffler) - $120? Floors Welded - ??? Headliner Repair Items (Fiberglass/Glue/Material) - $60 Color Matching Floormats - $10 Paint/Brushes - $60 Carpet - PROBABLY $30 (LKQ Carpet starts at $9.00) Doner Cherokee/Comanche (with Dana 44/242 Transfercase) - $100-600 ---Plans--- (As of 5/3/12, and not in any particular order) Sand / paint the damn thing the cheap way. Get the nasty floorboards welded and POR-15'ed. Reupholster the headliner. Get some matching floormats. Buy a GOOD Torx socket set. Fix the gauges. Fix the horn. Fix the e-brake cable. Buy Splash Guards Buy a carpet. Clean / install the carpet. Get some additional badges and install them. (Selec-Trac / Fuel Injection) Buy chrome remote mirrors. Buy chrome door handles. Get passenger side key tumbler fixed or replaced. Get new weatherstripping for the entire cab. Replace weatherstripping on the exterior of the cab. Buy a working Fuel Sending Unit from someone on CC. Get new windshield. Get new sockets for lights. Get new parking lamp assemblies. Remove / repaint the bumper. Get a new rear bumper (a-la J10 style) Get dents repaired / pulled out. Find a good Dana 44. Inspect and replace bad stuff on D44 Install a correctly geared Dana 44. Install a 242 Transfer-Case. Get driveshaft shortened. Paint Properly. Enjoy truck for another 20 years. :chillin: :D ---Things To Have On Hand--- (Spare Parts) Antennae Front quarter panels Side view mirrors Hood Gauge bezel Set of fender flares Interior bulbs Exterior Bulbs License plate assembly lights / housings Headlights Winshield wipers Gas filler door -
Probably means your gas guage itself is fubar. Mine did the same thing. Try swapping in another, known, GOOD gauge to test it. If the working gauge goes to full (I believe, not 100% sure) then your fuel sending unit is toast.

Turn Signal Socket Replacement

Oh lord, thank you for doing this write up. I thought I was going to have to do what Matt1971 was going to do. Will definitely be doing this within the next few days. :wrench: :D -
E-Brake Release Handle
Zenobian_84 replied to Zenobian_84's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Bump? Anybody got a picture of the screws at least? I can probably figure out what they are if I could remember what size they were. -
Yes, the tailgate badge  I've only seen it in the parts catalogue manual. Don't think there's another one floating around out there. :dunno:
-
Anybody got IRL pictures of the Selec-Trac, Command-Trac, and Fuel Injection badges? I've seen none of these in my time and am interested in snagging at least one FI / ST badge one day. :brows:
-
I'd be down for that; I barely ever see / meet another MJ owner around the Central FL area. I'm tired of seeing only my MJ on the road! :D

Somehow lost the screws to bolt the handle to the kickboard when I was wiring some axillary grounds underneath the column. Anybody know what size the screws are? Metric or SAE? Coarse or fine threads? Appreciate the help

4.0, 242 engine replacement question 1988
Zenobian_84 replied to mknherhappy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Since your motor is a Renix type (1987-late 1990) any other year of Renix engine should work (from either a Cherokee or Comanche). If you decide to do a Chrysler HO engine swap (1991-2001) you may have a bit more work ahead of you. IE: a few different wiring setups than what you have now; but I'm not 100% positive on this, so take my advice as you will. Someone else will probably chime in with the exact details, but that's the gist of it. I myself am not a 4.0 guru as most of the others on here are. :( And obviously, any Renix engine with the same setup as your truck (stick or auto, and corresponding transmission / transfercase) will be a direct bolt on. Hope this helps! Oh, and you can probably hit up a few junkyards to find a decent motor for a decent price. Either that, or Craigslist. -
Thanks Jim, I'll keep it in mind. Going to try my luck at the P&Ps one more time in the next day or so, and if I don't find anything, I'll let you know.

comanche club Forum Software. We need some input.
Zenobian_84 replied to Automan2164's topic in The Pub
I don't have experience in any type of forum software, my knowledge is just in bare bones programming. I'd vote for whatever would be the cheapest route, and what's the most reliable. It's all about site stability. If you stay with the Phpbb system, how reliable do you think your server hosts are going to be with maintaining it if it's as far behind on being updated as you say? Obviously, they've keeping everything running, but If you already know for a fact they barely know how to operate a widely used hosting format, what's to say they'd know what to do if *god forbid* the site crashed? Do you or Pete have any experience in doing this type of work; and if not, who do you know that'd be dependable enough to help maintain it if your go-to guy's now aren't available? Not only that, but I also agree with Whowey. There's a lot of info that's not repeated anywhere else that could possibly be the victim of running maintenance or switching to a new system. Not trying to be a debbie-downer here, but I'm just looking at it realistically. If you can have maybe 3 competent people that know how to manage and maintain a Phpbb system, then I would stick with what's working. If not, then see if either of you and the forum member can possibly find a way to give the IP.Board system a "trial run", and see if you two like it as opposed to what you guys are already running here. Maybe you could see if any other Jeep or car forum is running the IP.Board system and talk to the guys running them? Find out how easy it is to maintain, update, etc etc. Just my -
The ultra-rare, Comanche "Attack Dog" package. :brows: For some reason, mine has never been able to do this. Guess I haven't been training it hard enough. :shake: PG-pj1EdM6w
