Due to two failures in a row, I’m switching up my battery terminal choice. I went with the “marine” style and have not been happy with the performance. Changed it up to more of a factory style. The imbedded bolt keeps pulling out of the terminal. Don’t believe I’m over tightening the nut but obviously the terminal disagrees. Guess we’ll see how these hold up.

The 2023 Gambler 500 in our Comanche video is here.

Was definitely a life changing moment. Lol. Now, as much as it infuriates me, I just let it go. Never know what nut job your approaching. -

As tempting as it is to take revenge on someone littering, I would personally warn against it. I have 4 bullet holes as a constant reminder that it’s easier just to throw it away yourself. Story and pictures on “Minche” thread -
I’ll make the time to do it in person. Always seems to work out better that way. Thanks for the lead! I’ll post back whatever I find out

Loved the video. Almost a half a million pounds of garbage is disgraceful. Good haul getting that tweaker trailer out of the woods too. Liked n subscribed. Keep ‘em coming. -
Spotted this guy on I-5 today going through Fife Washington. Was actually really clean. Luckily I was able to get a CC magnet to him at about 40mph. Lol.

Do you drive by there often? Should stop in and see if they will sell it. I’m not free for 2-3 weeks but can probably make time to swing by and get a story.

Yesterday was passenger door day. My window has been struggling for a while now with rolling up and down. When you get past half way down, you would need to push on the window to get it to go all the way down. Then once it’s all the way down, it won’t come back up on its own and makes a terrible grinding/ skipping teeth noise. I was having to reach up into the door, under the door card, grab the bottom of the window and force it back up until the window mechanism would grab again and roll up on its own. Luckily my Buddy @NorthwestMJ had given me his stock doors off his Overland build and it’s window cranked wonderfully. Swapped out the manual window regulator into my door and it worked great. Also swapped out the door check. I’m not sure what had happened to mine but it was in pieces inside the door. And the mounting surface took some massaging with a 3lb hammer to get the studs to stick through. I also swapped out his seals that were in better condition than mine. I believe the rod for lock/unlock were in there wrong as well. I would always have to hit the inside lock button back and forth 3-4 times for the door to actually unlock. Now it’s butter smooth and easily unlocks on the first try.

Project: “Comanche Limited”
WranglerMangler replied to jpnjake's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Sweet. Lol. I did not rebuild mine, took it straight out of an XJ with 161k. I’ve been doing heat checks as well on the diff cover. I’ll have to check the pinion temp. My cover runs about 140-150 degrees on hot days with no load. Using El cheapo, O’reillys gear oil for a “flush” then going to a better Synthetic oil. I was curious if oil would make a difference in running temperature. Have also considered a finned aluminum cover to help dissipate heat. There’s one here locally on CL for $25, probably worth a shot. Thanks. -

Have you happened to check the temperature your D44 runs at by chance? Just curious. -
July 2023 - The Overland Build

MJOTM Finally! More than worthy truck. This truck looks great in the pictures but amazing in person. Best MJ I’ve ever seen in person by far. Quite the transformation from digging it out of the bushes. Keep up the great work my friend. Congratulations. -

I honestly haven’t no idea what the caster is set to. When I did the long arm I supported the body and axle so nothing would move then adjusted my Control arms to the axle mounts so it should be fairly close to whatever stock is. You seeing that spring?

So somehow during all this track bar support bar monkeying around, embarrassingly, I managed to totally strip out the recessed 10x1.5 threads in the rear motor mount bolt. I thought about HeliCoil, Nut inserts and drill and tap to bigger size. This is what I came up with as a fix. Step 1: Drill a big @$$ hole in the unibody. Found a piece of pipe that a 1/2” bolt fits through. Cleaned it up and cut it down to size. Tightened the bolt down and welded in the sleeve. Cut it down and ground it flush. Painted over the bare steel and tightened the way bigger bolt. Feel much more confident in unibody stability with this set up and the new brace. I plan on doing this with the other (forward) motor mount bolt as well just to eliminate the other small bolt and really give the new brace lots of support. New vs old bolt. I like big bolts and I cannot lie Unless your actually paying attention the new bolt hides pretty good behind the shock.

Hahaha. This is true. Sorry for the thread Jack. We’ll take this conversation over to the Bacon and pork chops selection thread.

Oh nice. Liberty is beautiful. Good long steep climbs, loose rocky sections, Duffy thick powder dust and good off camber sections. If your looking for some good night wheeling, have someone run you out to the “XJ drop off” not far from camp. Its like a 300ft cliff somebody drove an XJ off of years ago. Supposedly 2 of 3 people died in the XJ. It’s pretty amazing up there on a clear night. Have fun. I’m jealous. Need to get back over there. Owens meats in Cle Elum has some of the best bacon and pork chops you’ll ever have. KC bacon and the smoked pork chops. Highly suggest.

This is just crossing the line. Send em all the Billions you want. Just not any more Comanches

Hauled home some rocks from work to line one side of our property that has a road next to it. Biggest rock was probably around 200lbs

Thanks again Pete. Your always looking out for everyone’s best interests. Looking at it now, it’s hard to believe I was going to call it good. I definitely understand that the forces a moving vehicle goes through are much more than a man can put on things. Especially the way I drive. Lol.
-
Alright Buddy, what does the inner engineer think about it now? Thanks for the call out on my half @$$ work too. Feel much better about it now! Lol. I opted to use a much thinner material for the cap. Stronger than it was! Lol

I don’t believe the steering box side to side force would influence the Track bar mount would it? Unless it’s literally trying to spread apart the unibody. I already have a steering box brace installed to help prevent that. I’m out here removing the bar right now to gusset it up. Stay tuned for what I come up with.
-
I really wasn’t planning on it. Just for the bracket support? Doesn’t really seem to be weight bearing. I’m 275lbs and was unable to bend it any further with all my weight on it. Buuut, now that you bring it up, maybe I will.

Ever since discovering the Rubicon express Track Bar drop bracket has an optional support bar available, I’ve wanted to get or make one for Minche. Apparently today was the day. Back of the track bar bracket brace plate. I’ve had this tube laying around for a while now. Believe it’s HREW, .120 wall stuff anyway. Smashed one end flat for welding Tied into the Frame side motor mount. Turned out pretty good. It’s stronger than it was!
