Ha - the ones in that machine are at least 3 years old (pulled all those old Polyvends off locations in 2016-17) Chips are free if you want the machine at $500

Kegco a lot cheaper - think I paid $130 for the freezer - the Perlick flow control taps (stainless) with the stainless dual tower & all hoses had to be $300 - and to avoid building a collar for the freezer bought the 90 degree low profile fittings to clear the lid - that was another $75 - throw in chalkboard tap handles & the CO2 tank all in was a little under $600 (I like beer) - worth it to me but think you can buy a ready to go Keggerator from places like Home Depot for $400

Snaky Jay Inslee, Governor of Washington State announced yesterday may be starting the process of opening some things back up. Fishing - lot of people pissed about how the state is managing fisheries up here anyway, think they only reason they closed fishing was so they'd have something to offer during the slow start-back-up plan. Halibut season should open next month, probably be delayed. Salmon runs (what's left of them) start up in June - pretty calm right now since there isn't much to target, but there is going to be a lot angst if they don't set the seasons and open up in the next month or so - fishing by it's nature is a fairly solitary endeavor - the launches can get crowded and the fish checkers have to interact to inspect the catch, but no worse than a trip to the grocery store. Golf - same thing, this is one sport that encourages social distance - hell most of the time I'm off by myself in the woods looking for that damn titelist that got away from me because I left the face open, bent my left arm, shifted my stance, lifted my head, late on follow through, dog ate my homework, someone talked during backswing.... seems like another activity they took away just so the huddled masses would be appreciative when they give it back... As a side hustle I run a string of vending machines - most of them are in business that are closed/un accessible - hotels, nursing homes, etc. The few that I do have that are still selling I have been ignoring because I don't consider vending essential - apparently I got that wrong because I have machines in essential businesses and some apartment complexes and they have been calling for me to come fill them up - so have to mask up, glove up, tote cleaners and wipes and go into the places and re-stock the machines. With all the extra time on their hands, the residents of a couple of apartment complexes invested in tubular lock picks (easy to buy right off Amazon) and started ripping off the machines - takes a little skill and practice to get even the cheap locks open, but with all the layoffs people have nothing better to do than practice breaking into the machines.. So now those machines get hardened hasps over the T-handles and puck locks with Abloy cores - good luck picking those suckers! Soon as they start smashing glass I'll pull the machines. When this first started taking off, I had a case of 160 N95 masks and put some of those in the machines, along with a couple cases of the 1 oz hand sanitizers - those things sold out in hours (I only charged normal mark up - think I paid $.50 ea for the masks and sold for $1.00 and $.35 for the sanitizer and sold for $.75) - phone rang constantly for more masks and sanitizer but couldn't get any - only a fluke that I had the stuff to begin with - ended selling about 24 masks in the machines and all the sanitzer, once I heard about the mask shortage sent the rest to my cousin that's a nurse at a local hospital (kept a dozen for immediate family) Crazy times

I like beer. I really like draft beer. Lost my old keggerator in a poker game that got a little out of control (lot of stuff got thrown in that pot) Built a new one out of a Costco chest freezer (kids call them Keezer's) Works great, holds two tall pony's or 3 corny kegs. Holds temp at just above freezing (like beer cold)

how many miles on your truck's factory engine?
88towmanche replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
88 MJ - 90,000 miles 88 XJ - 120,000 miles 89 XJ - 200,000 miles All run great - the 89 with the most miles has lowest oil pressure on the dash gauge - but not by much and not sure how much I trust that reading anyway. -
Hey Seattle! Looking for an AX5 trans and 231 case
88towmanche replied to Lamar Ard's topic in The Pub
There was someone on Seattle Craigslist parting out a 99 TJ that had a good AX5 for $300 but I see it's now listed as sold. Always searching for AX15 and have seen these AX5's come up - usually ignore them, had no idea they were in MJ's -

AX5? Still learning this jeep stuff - was the AX5 only on the 4cyl jeeps? or was it before the Peugot BA? -
Is the 2.8l really that bad?

Buying my first house, got notified the day before closing I needed to cough up another $8k in cash - (we had thought we needed $12k and had that but someone miscalculated and we needed $20k) - sold the S10 Blazer I had for wholesale price to get some quick cash and bought the house but had no vehicle or money to buy one..... Borrowed $500 from my brother and bought an 84 S10 pick up longbed with the 2.8 - truck was straight but paint and interior were trashed - motor sounded like a bag of marbles in a washing machine on spin cycle. Thought maybe it would last a couple of months - kept an eye on the oil and temp and just drove it.....for 2 years! Thing spewed oil like you couldn't believe - finally got that somewhat under control - was a banjo bolt that I think held the oil filter on - remember trying to cut a complicated gasket after tearing the $5 dealership one - finally said screw it and forgo the gasket for a $#!& ton of RTV - stopped that particular leak for rest of the time I had the truck. Gutless and noisy, but it ran until I sold it to some kid for the same $500 -
31's on factory rims - does have about 1-3/4 budget boost but wasn't necessary for clearance. WJ LCA's were necessary

Yep - and now I have to go do it again (although the DMV offices are all closed due to WuFlu) Think I'll start with the place that titled the black one -

So, had another XJ 2 door pop up on my radar - wasn't really looking with all the crazy shixt going on right now, but it was right there and price was good.....so....... Got another 88 XJ 2 door 5spd - this one is a "Sport" version This one is really, really clean - no dents, rust, clean gray interior - mileage shows just over 200k but runs great - probably fix this one up for the wife and kind of go the wheeler route with the black one... Too many Jeeps -
Gotta be it - didn't come that way from factory, no question (to my non-locksmith-expertise observations) the square key for this 88 MJ works both the door locks and igntion.
-
Ok - well this weird then - the square key unlocks both doors and the hatch and works in the ignition. Does not work for the glove box. I thought maybe the door and hatch locks were trashed or something and would open with any key or a screwdriver so I messed around seeing if the MJ keys or a few other keys I had laying around worked....nope. The passenger side lock is wonky - sloppy fit, gotta jiggle the key to get it done, the hatch and drivers door lock/unlock smoothly with the key - ignition same. So, have no idea how this is possible - must have been messed with by previous owners - probably easy enough to fix by buying the door/hatch locks from a JY XJ if I need to change (provided they have the round key to go with)
-
Only really messed around with the rear hatch - square key locks/unlocks that one fine, will confirm the doors and glove box tonight. Don't lock the doors at the house and haven't been driving it around as it needs a number of things attended to before road worthy
-
Don't know - will check tonight
-
88 MJ came with two keys: Round (oval) for the doors and square (rectangle) for the ignition - this is how I remember old Chevy's were keyed so seemed correct to me when I got it. 88 XJ came with just the one square key - opens the doors and the ignition - this sound correct? Have no idea why it would be this way from factory.

Another mystery cable?

The 88 XJ I just picked up has that sensor and the dash light works - sporadically. -

Update: Got it titled. Just kept going to different DMV offices - each time presented the Title and Bill of Sale - shot down twice - both places claimed fair market value was $13k+ 3rd office I went to just processed the paperwork and signed off on the $1400 purchase price without comment - completely random nonsense dealing with the State bureaucracy but now good to go. -

Even when the state was begrudgingly going along with $30 tabs, my truck was always at least $100 - I said something about it at the DMV and they told me it was a CAR tab fee and rules were different for trucks or SUV's - had nothing to do with gross vehicle weight so more bs to squeeze revenue. Got collector plates on the MJ so never have to buy tabs for it again - but they warned me that if i was caught hauling stuff in the bed or making dump runs, would be subject to fines - you can have your collector truck but can't use it as a truck - asshats - put a tonneau on it so can't see if I'm hauling anyways -

Car tabs are a huge mess up here right now - they finally stopped emission testing this year but there are multiple court cases pending over the $30 car tab passing - again. Wifes 2017 Ford Fusion was around $400 for registration this year, could be $30 next year or another $400 - based on States opinion of car value and results of pending litigation. Trailers are not too bad but you have to pay for tabs every year - I have a couple of trailers but usually only keep 1 registered and swap the plate to the one I'm using (wing nuts for quick swap) Boats can be a hassle - All boats in Washington State need to be tabbed in June - start of fishing season so the state is on it right when people want to use their boats - makes for long lines at the DMV late May -

Getting hosed in Washington State for sure It's been a huge problem here for decades - around 15 years ago because of how bad the tax calculations are for used cars a voter initiative passed that capped car tabs at $30 for the whole state - the Legislature FREAKED OUT and got the initiative thrown as as "unconstitutional" so the backers changed the resolution to comply with state constitution, got it back on the ballot and it passed again - the Legislature FREAKED OUT again and got an injunction against implementation - but they knew it was not going to go away so they agreed to a $30 car tab flat fee and we have been kind of going with but every year without actually passing a law but they have been creeping the costs back up and I think like 2 years ago they started using the same F'd up car valuations again so the $30 car tab initiative popped back up last year and passed again by statewide vote - and the State legislature once AGAIN got a court injunction to block implementation. Washington State - home of the worst Legislative body in the country. They know the State Used car valuations are wrong, don't care, won't fix - State says a 1988 XJ fair market value is nearly $14,000 and that's what they want to collect tax on - don't care what you paid for it. messed up -

This has been bugging me for quite some time. The dismissive tone of this reply did not help. Whoa there hoss - if you are seeing "tone" in this response, my bad - certainly was not intended. No idea the MJ booster upgrade was a Ford vs Chevy debate - the sticky at the top of this page about what was the best thing you've done to your MJ has a lot of people claiming the booster upgrade was beneficial so it was on my punch list as a possible upgrade if the truck needed brake work or if it would be helpful for towing a small boat around. Eagle pointed out that swapping the booster may not actually be that much of an upgrade - and he has a been a good source of information on the Comanche from what I've read so I will reconsider whether I want to do a swap or stick OEM. Rather than type another wall of text, I just said "Ok" to acknowledge that he took the time to provide some information - which is appreciated and part of what makes CC a great resource. Likewise, always appreciate the information that you provide in your posts Minuit - another great resource. No harm no foul intended -

Yep - the flying monkeys in Olympia are sure they are getting ripped off by people lying about buy/sell prices and want their pound of flesh. Purchase price for the XJ was less than $2,000 so that automatically triggers comparison to market value The only resource they have for establishing market value on an 88 is Nadaguides.com and when the discrepancy is over $2,000 they use High Retail Nadaguides.com can go pound sand - their valuations are terrible and always have been. Of note: If you run Nadaguides on a 1988 XJ 2 dr LIMITED (instead of anything else) the high retail drops from $13,650 to $5,625 - so next office I go into I am going to claim the XJ is a Limited and see if that calms them down some. The fact that Nadaguides values the Limited XJ as $8000.00 less than a base XJ should be evidence enough that their valuations are shixt. Also, if the I get with seller and we change the purchase price to $2400 it will probably fly under the radar although I'll have to pay another $100 in tax (better than $1000) Or, I can throw that $100 to the seller and have him claim he "gifted" me the car and the State gets nothing.....but I'm not interested in trying to pull a fast one or stick it to the man, just want to get this thing titled.
