Bought with 280K on original motor (bad), but obviously someone failed to change oil regularly because the sludge was such that it could not hold pressure. Core was fine, put it new motor.

I've also had senders go bad... they're like 20$, and pretty easy to change, just make sure you use teflon tape. I'd say test the gauge by making sure the needle moves when grounded/powered, but I don't know what safe voltage range is, so I'll let someone else chime in with that...

Hey, that looks like my bump stop... except mine does actually touch... so it makes some noise when I hit bumps. Been doing it for over a year (since I bought it), never really bothered to inspect further...

The current Jeep Truck is still in "preproduction"/concept... and has been for a while. I think the idea is still on the table, but I do not believe that there is a set release, or even a "final" product to release just yet. It still has great potential, however. <---This info is just what I have read last with a bit of speculation, I may be totally wrong. Take that grain of salt.

Who has some Renix insight?

Any specific hose you guys like to use on the pump in the tank that's most resistant to gasoline degradation. Or shall I just go with regular hi-pres. fuel line. -
Yeah, that would be a rare, and a pretty cool beast in XJ form, if they existed. Not that it couldn't be done, but wouldn't wanna waste the Comanche to do it. ;)

I just checked the fuel pressure, it's only at 17 psi, pinched line at rail and ruled out pressure regulator... So I pulled the pump, and the rubber line on the pump was in pretty bad shape. It had a very minor leak as well. I don't feel like throwing a new pump at a title-less parts vehicle, but I may try putting a new hose on the pump and checking the psi again. -

So that's like the visual version of carb and choke cleaner on the vacuum lines, interesting concept. -
Sorry, didn't mean to confuse, I was being shorthanded for Manual Transmission (AX-15 in this case), it was by no means a special model.... come to think of it, it sounds kinda cool.

Meh, we flat towed my Comanche with a M/T XJ when I bought it for 80 miles (30 of that in stop and go traffic). I want to make it CLEAR that it was NO fun... but the weight didn't seem to be too much of an issue.

"storonge" eh... well they must be... they say SOLID afterall :brows:

Great, new things to try! I'll unbolt the exhaust before the cat and see if that helps. And while I'm checking grounds, it probably wouldn't hurt to check the ground on the fuel pump... maybe even pick up a gauge and check my fuel pressure. Thanks so much for the responses! -
Hmm, I suppose that would come in handy. My old XJ made it 300K on the stock diff just topping off when needed... never actually took the cover off  ....then it turtled.

I've replaced all the spark plugs... they were blackened, but not fried. I should tow it to the stealership to replace the O2 sensor since it still has that as an unperformed recall :D I have however unplugged the O2 sensor so it will go into limp rich mode, but it fixes nothing, so I don't believe thats the issue. Thanks! -

Yes, I had considered that it may be a tooth, teeth, off. But the idle, and revving in neutral seem as if it is firing correctly at times... but it's probably worth restabbing for assurance. Thanks! -

I have already checked the cap, rotor, and looked for arc on the wires, and all seemed fine. While it never hurts to replace those things, I don't believe that's the root of the problem. Thank you very much for the insight, though. -
I wish that was the case in Texas, that would make my life easier...

Well it's a tech question, and for all intents and purposes we'll pretend said XJ is an MJ for forum of course... I've dealt with plenty of H.O.s and even rebuilt and replaced one in my Comanche, but this renix motor in this jeep I picked up is giving me fits. It's so familiar yet so far from home. Here's the background: picked up 1990 XJ, 4x4, AX15, 140k, hadn't been started in 5 years. Towed off guy's land, went to gas station parking lot, worked for 3 hours and got it *running (oil change, connected gas tank, intake, stearing column, clutch lines) enough to make the 50 mile trek home... recieved tickets on way home.... continued... made it home. SKIP TO HERE IF LAZY! OK as it sits tranny is good, 4x4 is good, susp. is good, and motor itself is good (no knocks, taps, raps, or craps etc.) However it runs like absolute crap. Finally got all the vacuum lines connected and got the MAP hooked to the throttle body, which all the sudden made the idle sound right, and even the revs sounded good with no load. (still dies occasionally with no foot on gas) but as soon as you try to drive it there is a whole lot of no power and a bunch of intake firing... ie. can't really get anywhere. So I replaced the MAP same deal... unplugged the MAP vacuum and the idle turned to $#!& again and it sounds and runs like crap but becomes drivable (this is how I drove it home, mind you). Perhaps the richness with the map unplugged allows it to run and with it plugged in it runs too lean. I've replaced the fuel filter, and the pump seems to prime every time the key is turned. So I'm stumped, this was supposed to be a parts jeep so it's not a huge deal but I've spent too much time now, so I atleast need to assuage my curiosity. Thanks for any input guys.

Yeah, that was my theory on the whole deal. Easiest thing would be to track back the previous owner. (Who to my knowledge lost the title, but sold it with a bill of sale to the person who was going to part it out before I snatched it.) Perhaps the person still has his number. I was however, able to grab the Texas Title Number, too bad I can't link that to a name. It also helps my case that it hasn't been registered in over 5 years so the previous owner can't want it that much ;) However, it runs like complete dog*ish, and I'm not too compelled to drop money until I get the title sorted. But if not, I'll have a bad @$$ comanche, so it works out. Edit: And I rand the VIN#, it's not stolen. But it does need 2 recalls performed--O2 Sensor, and Brake Rotors

I feel slightly epileptic... Congrats... on using every smiley on the board. And the 17 years of marriage thing too... :clapping:

So.. Many.. Responses.. First of All AWESOME! 2nd, You must have a bit of free time on your hands. But most of all, well done, that's quite a setup. Congrats! Glad it came out well.

So, a bit of background. I pickup up a 1990 Cherokee with a 4 inch lift, Manual Trans, 4x4, I6 for parts. (Because my Comanche is a manual tranny, 4.0 h.o. but not 4x4, which is blasphemous...) Well after getting this thing running (hadn't started in 6 years, but only 140k) and kind of put back together, (backwards, backwards, backwards, I knoooow) I've grown a bit fond of the the thing. So my thoughts were, depending on how difficult title recovery is on a vehicle in which the previous TITLED owner is unknown--I may keep the thing. The fact that it hasn't been registered/inspected in almost 6 years may help my case. However, if it's a huge PITA, or extremely expensive... so be it, I'll proceed with Plan A :D
-
Yeah I'm always at harbor freight, cheap, cheap stuff for sure. Well let me know how it goes, I'm hoping to have time to tackle some of it monday or tomorrow if lucky... and it would be absolutely great to have insight as your doing yours as well... good luck man! I'll let you know when I get back into the Gf's.
-
Well after reading that... anyone got a 97+ AW-4 with relatively low miles for sale? :D
-
What I'm considering doing is pulling the tranny myself then bringing it to a transmission rebuilding/supply house here locally that takes yours as a core in exchange for a freshly rebuilt one $400-500 probably. But like I said suggestions are great and if you think that finding a used one makes more sense than a rebuilt one I'll definitely keep my eyes open. For hers I'll keep it 2wd just to keep it simple for her car.
