  1. I'd like to be able to have a correct speedo with 4.10s n 235/75R15s ;) Mike
  2. Every MSJ needs an FSJ counter part I ended up with an FSJ project myself ;) 82' AMC/jeep Honcho shortbed stepside with good body bad frame, being that i have to build my own chassie it's going to become a Jeep equivalent of a Ford-550/Ram5500 i calling a J-5500  Don't worry i'm stayin short wheel based 6' cab to frame end, just going to be sitting on D70/D80 axles and six 225/70R19.5 MT's  with polished wheels of course 10lug axles  commercail grade DRW J-truck shortbed actually bed less with 5th wheel n goose neck hitches :wrench: Mike
  3. Not sure if you fixed your rough idle, i had one myself replaced lots of parts which made a little better each time . . . :wrench: Its these 1. O2. 2. Map sensor. 3. TPS -Throttle position sensor. replace them :wrench:  Trust me ;) My MJ is also a shortbed 2WD "SporTruck" AMC-2.5 / AX-4 4spd / D35 3.73 ratio, Rips 0-75mph then starts to fade off and its got 201K-Miles on it Mike
  4. So i got way off track with this trying to make stuff work at bad time in life. trying it again. Quick back story / update then on ward; So Since the 290/ax15/am20 mess I have picked up a nice AMC eagle SX/4 that's getting its 258 replaced with the 290 that was for the MJ dub'd project "SX/290". I also aquired an Jeep Honcho shortbed stepside good body, bad frame, missing engine too. I'm building my own frame and i am going for Medium duty pickup sized rig, like the ford 550/Ram 5500. I have dub'd that project Jeep "J-5500". So i got the Honcho's drive train up for sale, along with the eagles I6 engine to fund this project Ideally :hmm:  So My AMX has a 390, the eagle is getting a 290, so i'm going with a 343 for the MJ. Then i'll have a whole Gen 2 AMC-V8 Hi-po set On ward: The plan is to upgrade the power train, Restore the body, paint, and update the interior :wrench: The power train; AMC-343 Hi-po (4bbl 10.2:1 compression) / AX-15 2WD 5spd / 71'-74' Jav-20x 4.10's / 235-75R15 tires. Starting point: New Badging: New rocker panels: Enjoy the progress! Mike
  5. Well I'm NOT dropping such a large amount of money into such a little truck, Without being able to see it in person first is my concern this is why i was hopping somebody would buiild a "display" unit  :hmm: I could build 1 heck of a nice diesel Jeep "J5500" for less ;) Mike
  6. Ya well I never much understood having a dozen of the sme thing, I've got what's been called weakest of the weak MJ's and its reliably went 24yrs and 200K miles and counting . . . Oits a shortbed 2WD 2.5 / AX4 / D35x3.73s turning 235s . . . I'm rather impressed with its performance, considering what's towed / hauled / driven through / durability / reliability 3yrs later still finds ways to impress me . . . If the FS-Jeep truck is even remotely as good of a rig, I'll be massively impressed with it too ;) Mike
  7. I think Chrysler has memo'd there Jeep dealers to be dislike Jeep truck people, Its like they are saying buy a RAM or get your Jeep truck off my lot ! ! ! I've watched many friends with Jeeps get treated better with SUV's then Jeep trucks. Buddy had an 85' XJ-Cherokee they convinced him to restore it ! ! ! Yet a year later he stops in for a light bulb n some wiper blades for his mint condition lo mileage J/10 Honcho shortbed stepside and they treated him like dirt ! ! ! Seriously how I feel they were trained ;) Mike
  8. You'd think they would've had it ready for order before it was ready for order, I mean do they expect a person to have 2 monthly payments on this thing ? ! ? ! ? First buy this $30K Jeep then buy this $5,500 add on then you can or we can install it for you. I think each dealership should have one built on the show room and 2 kits in stock ready to go, May NOT be a factory built truck but it can be a dealer built truck . . . AMC/Rambler dealers used to do custom builds all the time ;) Maybe I'm crazy to think they should stock 2 with one built ? ? ? Or at least be able to get the kit ordered when they order your 4dr Wrangler so on day X you pick up your $38K Jeep truck ? ? ? Your paying RAM prices my as well get RAM service ;) Mike
  9. Went to the grocery store and passed a lil'CryCo dealership, Stopped in asked about the JK-8 Kit truck from mopar again they had no clue what I was talking about . . . While I was talking with the guys inside a salesman tried to get bosslady to trade in my MJ ! ! ! Apparently he asked what would it take to buy/trade in the Jeep truck, She told him "You couldn't afford to buy this truck in your wildest dreams" Now how awesome is that ? ! ? ! ? She stuck up for my lil'truck Mike
  10. Cruised on over to the Jeep dealership here by the inlaws with my MJ, To ask about this JK-8 Kit truck What a waste that was they knew nothing of it, Then tried to make ma a trade in offer on my MJ  She told the sales man "You couldn't afford this in your wildest dreams" . . . How cool is that ? My girl stuck up for my MJ ! ! ! Mike
  11. I been running WIX filters and AMSOIL 20w-50 high Zinc  Mike
  12. :rotf: What ! ? ! ? ! . . . first o head of that one . . . Tho i did get asked NOT once but twice while fueling up: "What body shop turned your Cherokee into a pickup" . . . "Whoa who turned your Cherokee sport into a truck" To both i replied while pointing to the "Comanche" fender badges: "Its a Comanche they came this WAY !" :fs1: . . . Shiny chrome badges :rotf:On a black truck :rotfl2: How can you NOT see them :???: . . . :hmm: . . . :fs2: Mike
  13. :wall: I think we're getting hosed, i went to NOT 1 but 2 ! Jeep dealerships and niether one knew a bloody thing about this KIT :fs1: 1 even wen through thier Mopar bookwith me and NO such kit exsisted :headpop: last good truck to be built Mike
  14. Kinda boring but I drove it to the grocery store and back 5miles round trip ;) Mike
  15. If . . . Your drink goes all over the floor with the first few turns cause apparently cup holders weren't invented yet lol Mike
  16. They got a prototype Fiat/Dakota looking thing reminds me of a subaru brat only a 4dr truck. If ya want a Jeep truck your choices are : JK-8 Independence. TJ-Brute. Comanche. CJ-10. CJ-8. J-series/Gladiator/Honcho. Another option I seen was in thread on Jeep forum it was company doing CJ-10 replicas/Conversions made from CJ-5/7s . . . To my knowledge the Jeep 2500 was an XJ-Cherokee which got discontinued in 06' ;) Mike
  17. I don't know about you, But in the world of MiniVan v6 and neon I4 powered Jeep's I'm NOT so sure they could've offered a true truck with out going to a RAM chassie which would then be an FSJ and once again Ram amd Jeep would be combatants ;) CryCo thinks that's a bad thing, I say for US that would be a good thing as jeep n Ram would be continually one uping each other and we would have 2 set's of trucks being improved at faster rate Making ford n GM have to play catchup to Chrysler  Mike
  18. I Read the artical a dozen times, Now i can't find it your right they went the cheapest/easiest way . . . I heard the Wrangler plant is at max production and there was room for another variant, plus Jeepdidn'twant to have a huge investment in something that might tank :???: So kit truck was a "good" idea "IF it tanks we aren't out much, IF they fly off dealer lots we ain't over worked and back ordered" is i'm sure their thoughts on it, yet its NOT a "pickup" so there isn't any internal competition :???: about all i can figure :???: It looks like a truck and has a "bed like" cargo area, So its step in the right direction . . . My hope's are IF they sell like hotcakes maybe they'll be motivated to try another Jeep pickup :dunno: :dunno: Am I  to think this way :???: Mike
  19. It would make for a nice driver, for what I would haul/tow on a daily run about that could/would/should do just fine . . . Now would I ditch the MJ for one ? NO ! But it might make its way in addition too ;) Tho $5.5K on a $30K rig seems high, Now a TJ-Brute $9.5K kit onto an $8K rig seems way better as 1 its cheaper to build and 2 its more of a pickup then a truck. Plus; JK-8 Indy = MiniVan V6 ? ! ? V.S. TJ-brute = 4.0L I6 ? ! ? Anything the AMC-4L fits in so will an AMC-V8 that's more so of interest to me ;) Now there is a company AEV building TJ-pickups profitably and another company building I forgot the name building CJ-pickups profitably so if 2 independent companys can make a buck building CJ-5 n 7 versions of the CJ-10 and the modern version the TJ-wrangler into TJ-brute how couldn't CryCo make a buck on a small Jeep truck ? ! ? ! ? Part of this "New Deal" or "New Chrysler" is Jeep is or at least was going to be an international brand built n sold everywhere on the planet that dose vehicular production n transportation. Well with out a Yota T100/Nissan D21 sized trucks they ain't going to do well over seas ! ! ! The Jeep CJ-10 was mainly export only and built 84'/85'/86' model yrs yet they are all over India and bejiging . . . Mike
  20. Don't you remember the interview with Jeeps CEO ? ! ? Before this came out ? ! ? He clearly stated "Its a truck but its NOT a pickup that is all I can say at this time" You honestly don't recall that ? ? ? It wasn't ment to be a pickup, Just have the look of a truck its for "FUN" not for "Work" they still got dodges to sell ya know ;) Mike
  21. :wrench: Sweet to looking kit truck NOT very functional as a truck tho :fs1: I might consider owning one if a I got to see it person ;) Mike
  22. Boss ladys rig was down due to a bad alternator limped it home thursday night. I got down sized so I haven't work since May so the old MJ just sat . . . Monday morning get woke to a family crisis father inlaw is going into hospital, So we need to come stay with the kids they visit every summer . . . Well we packed up loaded up the Comanche me n bosslady jumped in and screamed off from prairie du sac WI to Mendota IL. From phone call to walkin in the front with last of our luggage was 3hrs right on the button, That truck ran like a top didn't even get to check the oil just loaded it gassed up and ht the I-Road truck never missed a beat ! ! ! I love that truck ! ! ! Mike
  23. I had pretty much given up on my V8 MJ when I couldn't find a 60" AMC-20 Then this nice SX/4 dropped in my lap so then project "SX/290" was born then some body said the AMC-15 is a D35 rear end and they said it wouldn't hold up . . . So next thing a I know two 60" AM20's crawled out of the wood work then I mentioned if I had a 343 I'd have the while Gen-2 AMC-V8 collection ;) Well the person had a complete 343 too so project "MJ-343" was born :wrench: Mike
  24. An AMC-V8 is the best option as they mate all the transmissions the 4.0L will. I was doing: AMC-290 / AX15 / AMC-20x4.10s combo. The 290 is being dropped into my Eagle SX/4 with a T5 behind it. Now I'm doing: AMC-343 / AX15 / AM-20x4.10s Combo. After I finish my "SX/290" I'll be redoing my build thread here with the engine change. Mike
  25. Yep rain got us again so . . . More AMX: Image Not Found Ok now I did "Some" clean up: See no more tires wedge up against the AMX ? Yea well still got some to do: Yep got a ways to go . . . Mike
