The reverse light switch for a manual trans is only a reverse light switch. It plugs in to the side of the tranny and goes to a flat 4 wire plug near the oil dipstick.
-
When I had no back-up lights, I looked at that fuse on my 90 XJ...and said "nah, couldn't be that...that's for the TRANSmission". I must have looked at it 3 or 4 times before I took a really good look at it with a flashlight and it had a tiny line acroos the top of it...blown...Doh!! Interesting to think that every time I've gone "Doh" or "@%" I've always learned something I could pass on later. Good to hear you got it fixed. Side note: Since the Power/Comfort switch is on the same circuit as the TRANS fuse, I can tell if the rear lights are out by noticing that the switch is not working either...or vice versa...Just sayin'
-
Are you absolutely sure that the 7.5 amp TRANS fuse under the dash is good? Look for a bent pin in the NSS connector also? Does the Power/Comfort button work? (it's on the same TRANS fuse under the dash).

No, it's considered a "long" bed. There is no Comanche 8' bed.

If I fill my tank I can drive 75 - 80 miles before the needle even moves. Another 75 miles it goes from full to half. I goes to 1/4 tank after another 75...and so on. Inaccurate yes, but if you drive it long enough you should get the feel for it. If I'm going downhill to the left, it reads fuller than if I'm going uphill, to the right. Since the fuel moves, so does the needle. The sender is just a float...open up the back of your toilet...it's like that.

I have moments...mostly after hours/days/months of trying to figure stuff out. OP: Using Teflon tape ot PTFE thread sealer is fine if the sensor is a two/three wire sensor. One wire sensors ground through the block like our gauge/light sender...or in the case of one wire tranny temp sender...the steel trans lines, so need direct contact with metal
-
Since you were between 1/4 and 1/2...when you stated driving...you must have used 1/8 of a tank. 2 gallons. Sounds normal to me. Only way to know for sure is to measure it over a tank or two.

On a 90 or older the temp switch for the e-fan is in the radiator, the sensor for the ECU that provides info for A/F ratio is in the lower block, driver side. The fan SHOULD come on at 218-220. On a 91+ the sensor/switch is in the t-stat housing. It tells the computer to turn the fan on, and provides info for A/F ratio etc. I don't know if the temp threshold is the same as the Renix. Both have the sender in the rear of the head for the gauge. That changed in the later 90's too.

Went for a bit of a trip last weekend. Did a little off roading, did alot of going fast on dirt, gravel roads in 4 HI. Leaving the dirt and getting back on the highway, still felt like it was in 4x4. I need a drawing, picture, diagram of a NP231J (or any 231) in the 2 HI position. I don't know if my linkage is out of adjustment or not. The road up was fine, all thru the weekend, fine...going home it felt like I was hauling a biig trailer...I wasn't. Anybody got a picture, diagram of the way the shifter lever positions (on the T/C, not in the cab) ??

Cutting Down Drive Shaft Slip Yoke. Bad Idea?
ParadiseMJ replied to Biotex's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had the local drive line shop cut original down 1" and put a new rear yoke on it, balanced and even painted, $40. -

Road Trip, A Little Hot
ParadiseMJ replied to ParadiseMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Power is noticeably better. Mileage...don't know yet...taking a trip tomorrow, about 200 miles one-way, I'll see how it goes. I was only getting about 15 overall. -
Road Trip, A Little Hot

Yep, I replaced the cat...the old one. The new one, I can shine a light thru it...and see light. The old one...no light. You were right on. ...AND I finally did the vacuum test...which is what finally led to the above. Thanks guys,,,running normal temps now. -
Thanks Don, You already sent the AW4 manual. I'm just puzzled why the truck apparently is running fine with the TPS seemingly out of the loop. Huh!!?
-
Since I swapped the AW4 into the MJ I have not had "passsing gear" or "kickdown". I know this is a TPS issue but since I swapped a 94 AW4 and a 94 TCU into the 88, do I need the HO TPS or the Renix TPS. I've tried to adjust it, but I get nothing. The truck runs good, it shifts fine except for the kickdown issue. The TV acble is adjusted properly. It just just goes and goes but there doesn't seem to be ANY interface with the TPS at all when I test it. The 33 prong flat plug has .02 ohms resistance, solid. But I get 0.0 with the voltmeter probing the TPS square connector, seriously, zilch.

XJ 4.0 original engine, tranny, transfer case 247,929 last month MJ original engine, used tranny t/c swapped in 189,000 or so...but the odometer did not work for two years. Side note: My 64 Mercedes had 365,000 on it when I sold it in 1990. Highest mileage I've ever had on any vehicle...original engine and all.

A hearty "Hi Ho" to all the fathers out there..and to all you sons and daughters,..give the old man a call!!. I'll be having a great day underneath my Jeep today, then fixing my daughter's brakes. LOL (which stands for "labor of love") ...and then hanging out with my grandson (1 yr old).
-
It only has a 318 2bbl/A904 inside. Lots of rust too. The interior has no dash. It is inside the trunk though. They are "supposed" to call me after a year and give it to me. That's worth the job right there!

Where Does All Of This Go?
ParadiseMJ replied to 92tanMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Fix the tank vent #5. Is ther a charcoal cannister still in it? Cap the pink vac line (trim it back and cap it) does your heater blow out the defrost only? -
I get it, it was 108 here Where is "here"?
-
How did they "pay" you...in trade??
-
The XJ AAL is usually too short to be of any reasonable advantage for the longer MJ springs, Usually only about 16". Look for a "long" or "full length" one. Better yet find a spring pack from an S-10 and cut off the eyes to use in the MJ spring pack.

Yep, this is also on my list. I have been looking for an 8.8 to swap in with 4.10 gears as I have a D30 with 4.10's all shined up and re-sealed sitting ing storage (I currently have 3.07's). But right now I have to work with what I have. I'm somewhat hindered by $$ and time...short on both these days.
-
Yeah, I did that 6 mos. ago...seemed inconclusive. Thus my inspection today. The brake shoes are 6 mos. old and look brand new, so I don't think they were doing much good. Since I only drive the thing 2-3 times a month I've been remiss in fixing things.
