  1. Great, thanks for the anecdote. What I'm actually looking for is the information. As in why, how, what. Just a straight answer would do.
  2. So where does that leave me with 3.07's and 31's behind a BA10?
  3. So can somebody school me on gear ratios. My XJ has an AW4, Dana 35c open diff with 3.55's and 31" tires (29.5) my MJ has a BA10, Dana 44 LSD with 3.07's and the same BFG A/T's. Besides the BA10 what's the best combo. For highwayand/or towing? For general driving? For wheeling, crawling?
  4. I also have some ZJ V8 coils. Think those'd work better. I have a pair of them on my XJ too and they're fine. I want to stay away from coil spacers and if I go SOA in the future I'll bite the bullet for 5" coils.
  5. Sorry guys, I know this is kind of long but I'm obsessing and want to start this project. I've had XJ's for years but I just got this 88 MJ and I'm trying to prioritize the work it needs. Time is not an issue, money is available (bi-monthly). Right now the bed is not bolted down so I'm going to pull it off to get at the rear end and make it all easier. Lift: I have some F-150 coils and some extended rear shackles. I expect to get about 1 1/2 to 2". I may go SOA later. It came with perches and a new SYE in the box. Steering: The box and U-joint is new, all the TRE's are shot, but I haven't had it out on the road yet so I don't really know how it handles. Drive line : BA10, nuff said. Swap in what? AX15 or convert to AW4? NP231, D44 w/3.55's 31" BFG A/T's Motor starts but ALL the vac lines are either missing or shot. Oil & coolant are clean but I'm still going to do all the fluids. The gas tank is out of the truck now. This truck has been a farm truck and has been sitting for about 6 months when the guy was having overheating issues, I can deal with that. Surprisingly it has almost no rust. Surface rust, but no nasty stuff and I was able to turn the rear shackle bolt with a little uumph.
  6. Just for the sake of posting an actual tech question. The bed of the truck is not bolted down (I knew that when I bought it). Anyone know how heavy the box is? Can it be tilted off. It'd just be so much easier to do all the work I want to do with it off. Is that a good idea or ?? thanks
  7. Hello gents, This is my first post on this forum as I just purchased an 88 MJ after owning two XJ's (89 & 90) and being a member at NAXJA and JeepForum for several years. Straight body, short bed, Pioneer No lift Thrashed interior, paint thrashed but little or NO rust anywhere. A few wasp nests and black widows Runs. Needs almost all vac lines, but like I said, it runs. Not road worthy yet. Plan to do the SOA, possibly stroke, swap the Peugot for AX15. See you again.
