Back in the late 80’s and mid 90’s Chrysler issued a TSB ( technical service bulletin) with a list of approved oil filters.Fram was NOT the list.there was an issue with no drain back valve in the oil filter. This was a problem on the Mitsubishi engines Chrysler used back then. Drain back caused dry engine-starts and early engine failure. The 2nd bulletin was issued because the filters were coming apart and plugging the oil squirters and wiping out the pistons. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Years ago Chrysler/Jeep used to have a service bulletin about approved aftermarket oil filter. Fram was never on the list. Use Mopar/NAPA gold. Wix Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Adjustable control arms or drop brackets?
jeeptec1 replied to OldSch88L's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The alignment shop has no clue how to set caster. Where the lower control arms mount to the frame there are 2 13mm nuts on the back side. Loosen the rear lower control arm bolts. Loosen the 2 13mm nuts and there are shims that fit up in there to set the caster. Easy way to get a good estimate on how much lift you have. Measure from the center of the wheel to the bottom of the fender flare if you still have them. My 88 Comanche measured 18 inches stock 19 in the rear. With a 3 inch lift it is 21 front. 22 rear. I’ve run drop brackets on Cherokee’s with good results. I found the ride improved with drop brackets and the flex was better. Note the brackets do hang down a little more than a long arm so they will hit when crawling large rocks.also long arm will out flex the drop bracket set up. Also if your doing adjustable control arm do uppers and lowers. Most companies tell you set the lower arms 1/4 to 1/2 inch longer than stock or a spec they determined is good. Then set caster with the upper arms. There is a lot here hope this helps. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Cycle the key on off on off on leave it on. Count the sequence of blinks that will give you a fault code. There maybe a more detailed procedure on YouTube on reading the codes. Then do a google search for the codes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Do you have a check engine light/ service engine message? Common failures on this is the crank sensor. Located on the left top of the bell housing. The cam sensor located in the distributor. Fuel pump. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The 91 Comanche doesn’t have an ignition control module. It does have a pcm powertrain control module. It is or should be along the left inner fender and air cleaner housing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

RENIX Knock Sensor Relocation
jeeptec1 replied to MancheKid86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You maybe able to relocate it but in the middle the sensor is more apt to pick up detonation vibrations somewhat equally. In the rear it may only pickup the rear cylinders. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I’m getting ready to the 95/96 XJ Master and booster. What’s the difference between ZJ vs XJ. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nope . It’s either a bad sensor or a grounded wire. It pretty much reads over full. If you disconnect the connector at the tank it stays over full. I’m thinking more the lines of a grounded wire. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I did the swap. Plug and play. My Comanche already had gauges so no sensors needed. Just had to add 1 bulb for the 4x4 light. Everything works except fuel gauge. That’s my next project. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

88 Comanche 4x4 cluster with no tack. Found and 88 Cherokee cluster with tach. Is that a plug and plug swap or is there a modification needed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thank 30.8 dived by 28 times 3.07 that equals 3.39 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There is a formula for figuring out gear ratio for tire size. The original tire size on your Comanche was probably 28 inch. You now have 31’s. Your gear ratio is 3.07. 31 divided by 28 times you’re gear ratio of 3.07 equals 3.39. I reality that’s still not enough. The old rule of thumb used to be 31’s =4.10 33= 4.56. 35=4.88 etc. my experience says 4.10’s. I have an 88 Comanche with an automatic and 3.55 stocks gears. I have 31’s on it. It is ok. A freeway flyer. If you know your going to go wheeling and there is a possibility of going to 33’s in the future do the 4.10’s. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My 88 Comanche has crappy low brakes. I’m considering doing the dual diaphragm brake booster and master off of a 95/96 XJ like I did on my 87 XJ I had years ago. I remember my problem was brake light switch. I can’t remember which one to use? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So I did a quick 3 inch lift on my 88 Comanche out of used parts. Looks I may need longer lower control arms. I remember about 15 or so years ago there was discussion about using WJ lower arms. Still relevant or a waste of time? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What rear end do I have??
jeeptec1 replied to Climb over it's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Most 86 Comanche’s have the Model 20 rear diff. 87 and newer will have a Dana 35 then Dana 35c in the 89 model year. Some metric ton trucks had the Dana 44. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Hey club I picked up an 88 4x4 Laredo 4.0 Long bed with automatic. I’m looking to throw a quick lift on it out of a bunch parts and pieces. I’m looking to get 2.5 to 3.0 lift and put either 30 or 31’s. I found in my parts I have a set of Supelift 4.0 inch coils for a TJ. I know that they will physically fit. I know a TJ is lighter. Has anyone used a TJ spring and what was your results? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
