If you just need control arm DB's your best bet is to find someone that welds and have a set made . That way you can get the proper bracket size you need for your control arms . A shop here locally makes them for 180.00 US . Shipping would be a nightmare for you . Print a picture of the brackets you want and take it to a welder or make them yourself . Good Luck !

Don't get me wrong , I am putting one in because of an Air locker I'll be installing in the future and the uses for other things will be great to have out in the middle of nowhere . Tools like an air chisel and socket set would be a great asset out in the field . Not that I would ever use them that much but that Boy Scout modo doesn't hurt moral when I leave for the sticks .

I'm all for the project and all Jim but I have to ask , where you smokin some local medicinals in that camper back there when you came up with this one ... :chillin:  :brows:

I know their kinda pricey but you can't go wrong with these : http://www.teraflex.biz/products/rear-d ... ocket.html By the time you add everything up , might as well pay a little more for these .

Ahhh , the torque wrench , used them so much I've busted a couple over the years . Not only do the air wrenches EF up your wheels , they snap and cross thread lugs easy and every time they chip up my brand new lugs .. :fs1: Only takes a month or two for them to start rusting to sh@t . Its OK though , they just keep having to buy me new lugs every time I have tires mounted or swapped . Them guys see me coming from a mile away now , they know if they EF something up , I'll make them pay ... :fs2: They probably hate my @ss by now .

Fix wheel position; spacers the answer?
DJM/78 replied to streetjeep2.5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Your cheapest bet is with spacers for the rear , however depending on your lift offset wheels will rub on the inner and outer fender in the front anyway . IMHO I like the look of the offset wheels , if you run down to a wheel shop you could get more of an idea of a custom offset that will be different from front to back but with matching offset wheels I can't even tell the difference , much less noticeable than stock offset wheels . -
:agree: Its not the cops its fuggin laws that bind us from protecting our land and property , those same laws bind law enforcement from doing there job . So in the end the criminal wins and we are left pointing the finger at the law for upholding stupid laws that protect criminals . CW I would have followed that SOB until the cops made me stop , had that MF'ers bage # real quick , no cop I've ever met pulls steel at a whim , if so he wouldn't be a cop very long .

I'm still torn on the selectable / non-selectable rear because I do allot of that in town turn around type driving . I don't want to loose any more turning radius than I already have . I'll be curios to see your evaluation on how it performs in street style driving . Very cool though !

Yeah its already needing done , this week I'm looking at something more permanent . Any suggestions anyone ? I would like to eventually put a nice gloss finish on that when I paint it , but thats a couple of months out . So for now I guess something like a flat or satin finish would be cool . Ya got the mushroom belt , ya gotta go with the mushroom socks ... :brows: -

I got the steering and rear springs painted yesterday with some random crap I had laying around in the garage . Took some pics . I used this: I prepped the surface with alcohol after cleaning and a light scuffing . I threw two thirds the can on just the two rods knowing that it will get all messed up eventually , so I'll see how this holds up until I make up my mind about color . Then I'll powder coat them . -

Thanks , I just painted the steering last night because we have some rain coming in through the week . To tell you the truth my old 2" lift rode even worse , so bad in fact it shredded two brand new track bar mounts . Now it actually rides real smooth and the bump steer is just occasional and slight if any . Very controllable though . I don't plan on going too much further in height and a 33" tire is what I set this up for maybe during summer mudd'n trips I'll throw a set of 35"s on just for show . I drove a friends TJ with 37"s with the same steering I have and the bump steer tore the wheel right out your hands . :ack: But thats a pure crawler vehicle so I guess its to be expected . I'll get pics of the suspension painting up today at some point . :chillin: -

Thanks man , yeah its a little over geared with the 456's and 31"s , but the 33"s should trim out real nice . Next is a little body work and finishing my bumpers , I going to try your sticker removal wheel for the old chipped stickers on the bed . Picked one of those wheels up at the paint supply shop last week . -

Still in the break in period with the new gears so I'm taking a couple extra stops along my normal route . :chillin: Still no real time to get better pics of cool stuff , maybe this sunday I'll find something cool . -
Project "Eliminator"
DJM/78 replied to 89eliminator's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Looks like something hardcore out of a Madd Max flick . I like how you followed the lines of the fender trim . -
Looks like some good work to me , I like two tone trucks .

I know its out of order but here are some of the build pics , except for the thirty efn pics that my dog ate ( literally ) on the build of the D44 and other steps I wanted to include like the welding of the drop brackets , track arm bracket and the install of the SYE kit . This is what I saved anyway . -

Thanks , it ended up being Almost 6" in the rear and 5.5" - 6" in the front , overall it sits fairly level and I can still throw weight in the back and it just evens it out , I still wanted the use and function of a work truck . I am extremely pleased with the overall ride and stability around corners . -

Alright , some of you may have read my posts about the work that I had been doing to my truck . Everything has finally settled down a little around here for me to mess around with some pics . This phase of the project has taken about three months to complete , mostly with the help of a good shop because I didn't want to screw this one up . What originally started as just a simple re-gear and D44 swap quickly became a complete re-build of the entire suspension , axles , brakes and steering . There are only a couple of things that didn't get replaced , rear springs and shackles and the front driveshaft because it was all in ok shape . However they haven't skipped the radar though I'll be doing them in the future . Parts list : RE 5.5" HD SF Lift kit , TF SOA kit , TF SYE kit , TF sway brackets , RE quick disco's , Tom Woods CV drive shaft , re-built re-geared D30 Yukon 456's and alloy axle shafts , Swapped in D44 w/ Trac-Loc matching 456 Yukon gears and TF disc brakes and alloy shafts , SS brake lines , TF 1 ton knuckle kit and high steer conversion , TF HD steering joints w/TRE insert , custom made steering rods made of .281 wall Dom , On with the pics already jeez ! :fool: I know the 31"s still look small but I'm working on it . I'll post some more pics fer yuz later ! -
Looks good man , thats about as much as you want to go before it really starts to add up fast . Did you do anything with the track bar ?
-
OH yeah pete , I don't want to go through this again anytime soon so she's a pavement queen for right now , probably get a couple hundred miles on it before I actually throw any kind of load behind it and no heavy wheeling until then as well . DR ORDERS , remove lead foot and no heavy metal coming from the juke box either for thats the gateway drug to nascar style driving .
-
I got my truck back and it runs great , I'm still a little gun shy with what happened and all but the but the culprit ended up being a faulty axle bearing right out the box , yep the gears after and she was history . So I'll be a little shy on it for now . Damed skippy , she turns them big tires with 0 problem now , gets up in to gear so fast you don't even know the tires are there . Just for $#!& I threw a buddy's trailer on to see what happened , other than the trailer being to low for my truck I didn't even know it was there . I almost yanked my mail box right off coming in the driveway because after a couple of minutes ridding around I forgot it was there . It is now a completely different truck .
-
Yeah thats why I left this one to the pro's who have made all the mistakes before , I knew my skill level was far under par for a custom CV drive shaft and SYE kit , I'm just a plain ol' metal smith with a couple of wrenches . However I couldn't go on with the ever hated 307's , maybe a smaller gear set up would have been better but my plans are to go with a 33x12.5" tire and probably be towing a small bike trailer or utility trailer at some point as well .
-
OK , so the guys down at the shop felt so bad that they burnt some midnight oil and are working on rebuilding it by today . None of us know what the actual deal was with the rear but never the less new gears and bearings is what she needs . I'll probably have it out by noon . I've been excited to throw down some pics so maybe by this weekend I'll have them up for anyone who cares .
-
At first I thought it was the T case considering the D44 had less than 2 miles on it but nope after disengaging the drive shaft she told the hard cold truth that all the money and work that went into that rear end was kaputt . Hopefully when the shop calls me I'll hear a little better news . Good thing is they are the ones who built it so now they have to build it again .
