No Seafoam. 44K is way better. If you wanna try an ECU, I'll donate a known good one to the cause if you pay shipping. Then, we'll go from there. -

Are you getting power and ground to the O2 sensor? Red is Power from 87A on the relay. Black is ground. Grey is input to the ECU. -

Hook up a vacuum gauge and read it. http://www.classictruckshop.com/clubs/earlyburbs/projects/vac/uum.htm -
Ok thanks, ill have to pull it out and try again. Any thoughts on the oil leak? Oil leak: I'd be looking up ABOVE first, and VERIFYING the source of the oil leak YOURSELF. Everybody, who doesn't own or have to pay for or perform your vehicle repairs, loves to poke their noggin UNDER the Jeep and come out bearing the false bad news that your RMS is leaking. Many mechanics, friends, people on Jeep forums who can’t see your Jeep from where they’re at, and good old Uncle Bob seem to enjoy telling you it’s the rear main seal. Has a catastrophic ring to it, doesn’t it? A simple leak at the back of the valve cover or other source could produce the same symptoms. You don’t need to be a mechanic to figure this out. If you have good eyesight and a dim flashlight, you’re good to go on your own. Don't jump on the RMS/oil pan gasket bandwagon right off the bat. Almost any oil leak on your 4.0 is gonna drip from the RMS area for two simple reasons. First off, the engine sits nose-up and any oil will run back to the RMS area. Secondly, the RMS area is also the lowest point on the engine. Simple physics and the old plumber's adage apply here. "$hit flows downhill". Valve cover gasket, oil pressure sending unit, oil filter adapter seals and distributor gasket, in that order, have to be eliminated as possibilities first. Revised 02-26-2013

There's a write up here on CC for refurbishing it.

What do you have for injectors? -

Oh, and the huge "rear main seal" leak was due to there being no gasket under the distributor. I put an o-ring under it. No more pumping oil out like a Texas oil well at idle. I was fortunate enough to have an instrument cluster with gauges, so I swapped that in along with the correct senders from my stash. -

Engine is fine. #2 injector was stuck and in the process of unsticking it, I thought the engine was trashed. Probably had something to do with me zapping #2 injector with 12 volts while the engine was running. Lots of progress made over the weekend. Radiator neck is loose or I'd be driving it. I'll throw a spare radiator into it and swap out the noisy alternator and idler pulley. -

I'm thinking the engine is trashed. Gonna pull the good running one from my 89 parts XJ tomorrow just in case. Meanwhile, the trudging continues. One bite at a time. -

Oh, and the distributor had no gasket under it allowing oil to puke all over. Notice the puddle? Last night I did nothing but look over wiring diagrams as I still have no headlights. Made notes. I will have a pin-out of the lighting connector to share when I'm done.... Here's one I found somewhere for the headlight switch and then added color codes to it. Note: My penmanship sucks... Marvel Mystery Oil or what?

MMO works great for your scenario. Monitor the progress by shining a light into the oil filler hole. -

Renix 4.0l No spark no injector pulse
cruiser54 replied to hardbugsmattress's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Correct on 2 counts. And, maybe. Its starting to seem like a blown ecu. I always try to save that for the very last option though. What else could be causing these problems though? besides just catastrophic wiring damage? Also, what ECUs are compatible with it? 87-91? I have a manual transmission too, can i use an automatic's ecu? thanks a ton, youve been ridiculously helpful! Get an 89 or 90 ECU regardless of trans. Instant 9 horsepower increase. -
