  1. The reason for changing is I want the strongest axles I have to put under a CJ or a MJ frame. Not sure yet which one I'm going to use.Want to use as many parts as possible that I already have.I have 3 J20's.I also have 18 6 lug rims came off a 1Ton FC170. with 34 inch tires on them. Also not to mention another 2 dozen or more 5 lug Jeep rims I have.I also feel there is a wider selection in 6 lug than 8 lug. I know that with enough bucks I could buy anything I wanted but like I said. I'm trying to keep this project going with what I already have. Tnx to JPNJIM, gave the most informative answers.Jim
  2. I have a '75 J20 with Dana 60 in rear and 44 in front. They are 8 lug. Can the rear axle shafts and the front stubs be changed to 6 or 5 bolt pattern using standard parts?

It was the 4.0 with auto, column shift,Long bed, metric package. The dash, gauge cluster, FA, radiator,Driver side door hardware, and Tailgate already gone.Only been there 2 days. I can get the engine for$200.Condition unknown.Tranny $75,CU. TC $50.Fenders $30ea.Hood $30.Bed $200.Doors $35, Cab UNK wud guess $100,Frame UNK, wud guess another $100.No title and no way to be titled in state of Colo. Other states UNK.I would make a guess everything left could be got for $500-600.Will ask tomorrow when I go back.I got those prices from their standard price list. I've been trying to get some info but with typical beaucratic BS nobody knows anything. What I gather, but not sure of, in the CFC program there is no clause forbidding the selling of a complete unit, with or without title. The only requirment is the engine must be completely ruined by the injection of something into it. By the participating dealer, and then must be sold to a junk, salvage yard.Junk yards are there to make money so if you got enuff you can work something out with them as long as it's legal. They're not going to jeopardise their license.Looking forward to any and all comments, opinions and thoughts on the matter. Jim

UHOH...Got a cell phone. Forgot I had it. But then I'm still tryin to figure out how to make a call on the thing, let alone take pics. And besides, if I did take a pic wouldn't know how to transfer it to a puter.Ain't technologically challenged. Just don't understand it.An owners manual wud help but it didn't come with one.Was a present.

So who takes a camera to the JY? Heck, I didn't even have enuff proper tools with me the way it was.You try removing bumpers and brake brackets with a 6in Crescent and a pair of channel locks. And don't forget the tank. The only way I did it was cause nothing was rusted. If it ran as good as it looked I would have went $6-7K for it. Heck!! I wud've went $8K for it.
  6. I'd go $150max with title, Would offer $100 first and work from there.

Just got back from the U-pull-it emporium, Excuse me while I wipe a tear from my eye. I just went after a rearview mirror for a S10 so I didn't take any heavy tools with me. Big mistake. There was a '87 MJ metric ton package there in the most cleanest, pristine condition I have ever seen a vehicle in. There was not one spot or speck of rust on it, floorboards included.Or dents or scratches.Made a dash to the desk to see about getting it. NOWAY. Throw a couple expletives in there. Got what I cud off it,23 gal gas tank, emergency brake assy.Front and rear chrome bumpers. Both rearview mirrors.Electronic brake controller, both TL. Going back tomorrow and get the rear end and both springs. Hope they'l still be there. I live to far out in the boonies to go back today. I wud like to have a little heart to heart conversation with the PO. Reaching for another Kleenix, and cold beer. WHAT IN HELL WAS HE THINKING! ! ! !
  9. Some low life sticky fingered thieving SOB sees the vehicle and wants it, he can run the plates and find out where it's parked. A little harder but still doable is running the VIN.
  10. Just because it's a free deal doesn't mean it's a good idea....Seems I herd that sumplace.
  11. Wondering if Petes gonna hammer that muffler back into shape B4 he wraps it with duct tape and puts it back on. Had a '42 Hudson PU. one of the last ones made B4 WII. Swapped it straight across for a '27 Harley JD. Neither one of them ran so not sure who got the best, or worse, of that deal.
  12. Ditto on everything Dasbulliwagen said.
  13. I had a 74 Wagoneer, with 52,404 on it when I got it. I totaled it B4 it reached 52,405, Them county fair demolition derbies are hell on vehicles.
  14. No matter how well, or how strong something is built, there's always somebody, somewhwere gonna break it.
  15. OOOPS! I stand corrected. :headpop:
  16. See if I can remember them, WN7FIY,WA7FIY,WA4PRO, WA5SLZ,WA0SNA,KX6LO, Seems like I'm forgetting one. Have to drag out the log books.
  17. Mount it on the back of the bed. attach a clip to the rain gutter, if you have one, bend the antenna over and hook it in the clip. I use a teflon one so the the CB unit can be used. You lose some effectiveness but it works. My one car doesn't have a gutter so I made a bracket that fastened to the top of the door jamb.
  18. No. '96 and '99 use the same injectors.
  19. AutoZone lists both a new unit and a repair assy.Check with your local Auto parts store.
  20. I believe the CJ designation wasn't used until 1945, for the CJ-2. 1941-45 were MA and MB . MA was the original designation used by Willys when they submitted the prototype for evaluation to the Army. It was changed to MB when it went into production for the military. CJ stands for civilian Jeep.
  21. I believe that unless you have a locker, if you have BOTH wheels off the ground you can turn them while in gear. They will be turning in opposite directions.
  22. You have a bad sending unit. The winding is open in the middle. From full to mid you have current flow, therefore a reading. At the half full the slider goes across the opening, thus the jumping of the guage. On less than half full the slider is on the open side, therefore no current flow, no reading, The guage reads full.I'd just fill up at half full and not worry about it.
  23. FOR SALE: Rubber driveshafts, guaranteed to stretch from 47inches to 54inches. Limited supply so order early. No warranty or guarantee, Cash only, No checks. Also reduce 'driveline shock' making life easier on diff's.
