rear axle questions...
feerocknok replied to 88swampedmj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Also matches Dodge, Nissan, and Chevy. Very universal, but not to a Comanche. Since you'll need new rims, finding the appropriate backspacing can match your track to your front end. -
rear axle questions...
feerocknok replied to 88swampedmj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They're both good, just the more narrow one was replaced by one that was, I believe, 3" wider. The older one with larger tires and good flex would hit the tires on the frame. The strength is the same, unless it's a V-6, then it's even stronger. Both are good. -

I saw a guy running 38s on his welded Toy, did dandy. They seem to be quite strong, but to be honest, I don't know the strength of a 44. -
Coil Spring Spacer Price High?

Didn't mean to offend, sorry about that. Thank you for all the information. Not sure what the lift shop was thinking. They were just mistaken, I suppose. -
Coil Spring Spacer Price High?
feerocknok replied to feerocknok's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Why does it seem all the Jeep lift kits are XJ specific? Before, I was gonna use 4"ish diameter UHMW plastic rod, which is what alot of spacers are made out of, and then use a 2-1/2" hole saw to fit it around the post, but I've got no isolators. This Jeep's letting me down... -
Coil Spring Spacer Price High?
feerocknok replied to feerocknok's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Where would I be able to find them for an MJ? The guy at the suspension shop told me that Xj coils are slightly more narrow, so I wasn't sure that the spacers'd work. -
Was gonna make my own spacers, but my stock isolators were destroyed. The Jeep dealership said the company that bought out Jeep decided the isolators were obsolete and stopped making them. So... I was going to buy spacers (hoping they have built in isolators), but the guy at the supension shop told me $160! This is only for front 2" spacers, no shocks or rear lift. Is $160 normal? If it is, I'll make my own. I talked to the suspension guy and he gave me some suggestions on making isolators for them.

What type of muffler should I run?
feerocknok replied to sinned96's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Examples of glasspacks are Cherry Bombs, Red Hots, Magnaflow, and what the ricers run. It's a muffler that consists of a tube with holes in it, and outside the tube, and inside the case is, I believe, fiber glassing. It gives the exhaust tone, deadens sound that comes out your tailpipe, and deadens sound inside the cab. It's usually a real high flow design, compared to an open chamber muffler, like a Flowmaster or your stock muffler, but don't get me wrong, Flowmasters do flow quite amazingly. I blew my left Red Hot on my modded 350 in 2 weeks. Blaring loud, toneless noise out the left side, sounded good on the right. -

Also, for the cat, if you can't remove it, hollowing it'll help. Removing it completely will give even better flow though, and even less interior resonance. -
Eagle, I was looking up more information on it, and found this on the Jeeptech site. http://www.jeeptech.com/engine/amc150.html If I go junkyarding and find a 2.5 from an XJ, TJ, or YJ, with multi-port fuel injection, will the head match my TBI intake?

My personal recomendation for any 4-cylinder is Magnaflow. They seem to be a hair cheaper than Flowmaster, but have a far different sound. If you want a growl, go with Flowmaster. If you want a purr, go with Magnaflow. Also, expect less interior resonance with a Magnaflow. The glass packing will deaden the sound a little on the interior, while a Flowmaster will create more with your exhaust spooling through the chambers. -
$175!!! Dang! Yeah, I'm pretty dissapointed. We'll have redone the engine, tranny, brakes, suspension, windshield, and tires once this thing's on the road. Lol, there goes the thought of getting a truck for cheap. Is going used an okay path for an engine? My dad said he'd be willing to buy me a long block (about $1200 from Shucks, our only quote yet), but that would definitely not be the prefered route. car-part.com didn't have anything, but thank you for the link.

Yeah... My father and I were ready to drop the new tranny onto the truck, but we decided to check a cylinder that had a messed up spark plug. Multiple holes were in the top of the piston that we could see from where the spark plug goes in. Apparently the 2.5's dead. Suggestions? I'm pretty pissed off about this truck right now.

Was wondering if you were gonna fill the holes from the flair or not when I noticed you just cut them off. Came out beautifully there too, very nice.

V8 ZJ coils, how much lift?
feerocknok replied to mjeff87's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
According to JP magazine, they give roughly 2" to a 4wd XJ. -
Looks great. I'd like to see it with the redefined front end. Make it all the gnarlier.

guess that's what a cage and snorkel is for...

If it won't flex on speed bumps, it won't flex on the rocks is what's on my mind, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Sweet! So maybe I'll bum some 2.5 questions off you sometime! As for the AAL, wasn't sure. It only lasted 20 minutes before it was in was in the air with the tires off. Thank you for the info on that. If I remove that, will I lose much ride heighth? I think I'd like the flex without it, but don't want to compensate with even taller shackles. Spun the back tires today. 41 driveshaft rotations in 20 wheel rotations, so if I'm doing my math right, [41/(20/2)], it should have 4.10s on it, or as someone said earlier 4.11s. -
How much work was it? It just looks so gosh darn good. You did an incredible job on the whole thing. Sry, bout the damage.

*spites himself* I've been referring to the 904 as a 727, and the peugout as a 904 all this time. I'm still learning Jeep. I don't know em worth a darn yet. Is the 904 good? (I hope so) I'll swap to jackstands. Ah! I can't hack this thing! I gotta make it my girlie getter/light off-roader. My Toyota's for the beating. Cut fenders and narrowed bumper with a coil conversion and cage in the works. I'll probably bob the Jeep though. However... You have a freaking gnarly Jeep. -
