  1. Stroker is the show truck by your name your MJ? If so, post a pic of it here that is big enough for us to see.
  2. That truck was not a work truck even if it looks to be in a farm like setting. Notice how perfect the hood is. Notice the wheel well from inside the bed; not a dent there. Fenders and doors don't show dents. The tailgate is straight across the top and free of dents. The truck bed is dent free along the top. Road chemical damage and/or maybe driving the wash at the ocean (maybe a vacation trip from Ohio). Notice how little rust is in the wiper area as seen under the hood. Driver's side rear fender is about as bad as it could be. Makes me wonder how bad it was when last considered driven.
  3. Grab tailgate handle too
  4. I enjoy being out in the wilderness with others or alone. Backpacking in remote areas. White water rafting. Camping out on dog sledding trips at colder than 25 below zero. I don't go out alone below zero but down to zero is not difficult alone. I have had an artery punctured and watched the view of my blood spewing out 10 inches or more, literally pulsing to the beat of my heart. I enjoy the large animals and fortunately have not been charged at by either a bear or a cat. Black bears mostly avoid humans (but not always of course) and I sure enjoy running across them in the wild. Grizz's are another matter altogether. Glacier Nat Park is awesome but has the largest grizz population in the lower 48. I have been charged by a coyote or fox during a night hike alone in the Tetons. Have been unintentionally very close to moose only to realize it when I see it has its eyes trained on me. Things can change quickly. I have stepped over a log only to slice the back of my leg. Slamming in the rocks in level 5 white water is a price paid sometime in the name of fun. The listed medical supplies above are extensive. Depending on how likely you might be stranded in a remote area, I recommend more layered clothing than you think you might need. Water is heavy. Either have a filter or iodine tablets so you use water from a stream or pond. I have pumped water through a filter while watching tadpoles swim. About 10 years ago while driving to a wilderness winter hike, I saw a man in his 20's come out of the mountainous woods. I stopped and asked in he was ok. He was shaking violently and uncontrollably. Since he was still shaking, I knew he would be ok. He said he had been lost for 2 days in the mountains and was afraid to drink the water from streams. Always, always drink rather than running the risk of being dehydrated. It might take a year to get over giardia, but it has an incubation period of a couple of weeks. Chance are you will be home and safe by then. Something I would add to the list are individually packaged baby wipes. It is impossible to keep your hands clean when out. Alcohol is rough on the skin and impedes healing. (People with piercings know not to use alcohol when keeping new piercing clean). Baby wipes are easier on the skin and antiseptic at the same time. Usually you see them in a container but look for the individually wrapped ones so they remain uncontaminated. If you have not used the butterfly band aids listed above they are very good at holding a cut of 3/4 inch or more closed. You can suture with a fishing hook if you have that skill set, but if not have a look at the butterfly band aids. The ones with the narrow middle attached to the ends of rectangular wider sections. Practice by cutting a deep gash in the back of your leg or some other hard place to get too (kidding of course). But do try putting a couple on the back of the leg when you are not in crisis mode trying to be dexterous. If and when the time comes, you will be holding the wound closed with one hand and applying it with just one hand. Also know the importance of "breaking the bacterial field". Simply scrub the area with your hands to disturb the bacterial growth. Finally wrap duct tape around a piece of plastic to take with you if you become stranded. You can split a broken leg with it and a branch. I have used it on my feet when hiking for a week in Kings Canyon and Mt Whitney in the Sierras. Some put it on their toes when white water rafting. A led headlamp, of course.
  5. MJ I have only luke warm heat on an 89 MJ. I am on coastal VA and it does not bother me that there is little heat. The dashboard temp gauge only reads about 120 to 125 when warmed up. I assume either the gauge is stuck open or a prior owner removed it altogether. mjpete, when warmed up, what temperature does your gauge show? Is it inline with the 155 you get coming off the engine? 30 year old gauges and sensors. For anyone, what were the original stock thermostat ratings and what are several of you running if not the factory spec one?
  6. I also did the swap and it is a worthwhile thing to do. I purchased OMIX-ADA 19710.13 rather than Mopar because I "bought" the wording about them being improved over originals. Longer warranty. 2 at $11.50 each. I could not tell which blades, HOrnbrod used so I bought some that looked like his. BOSCH 18CA 2 at $4.72. Total $49.32. It will be cheap when time comes to replace the blades. Rock Auto. No chatter at all, even when there are is very light rain.
  7. You overestimate the value of your opinions and what you contribute
  8. JeepDriver, when I read your reply, the first thing I noticed was that the animus is not consistent with the stimulus. Your comment lauds 4 members "and a few others". It excludes more than 99% of the members and nonmember readership, It gives no consideration for those that keep the thread active, readable and enjoyed by many. If you find CC annoying and beneath you, the solution would be not to read it.
  9. JeepDriver, who we all love and adore, I do believe you must have a burr up your ....
  10. Well killer, it is just another variation for you to identify.
  11. I ran across this when looking something else up. Notice what is ALREADY installed in the space. Copied and pasted from another thread. HOrnbrod Moderator Moderators 19799 posts Location: Sweet Home Alabama Posted February 20 You mean this? It appeared in 84-86 XJs and Wagoneers - rarely.
  12. Eagle, that is quite an answer. Did you actually know those details without having to look them up?
  13. The MJ is locked inside of mechanic's garage, so I can't get to it until he reopens. Thanks for all the information but what I am asking is simpler ( I think?). The current tires and rims are too big and scrape when turning the wheels past some point. I do not want to lift the truck. I do want to preserve the chrome rim look. That said, I need to buy rims and tires to fit them. Never bought a set of rims ever, except on a vehicle purchased. Level stupid questions: 1.There are different grades/thicknesses of chrome that will stave off rust through? 2. I like the look of wide tires (no meaning diameter). What is the max width tire and rim needed for those tires that will work?
  14. HOrnbrod, thanks for that. The 87 has a broken out fog light switch. Now to find one to replace it.
  15. Did anyone figure out what the two rectangular ones on the LEFT side were for? On a 87MJ there was something on the most left one that is broken. I don't know what if it was for a switch or indicator light or what it was for.
  16. It has been 5 weeks. Drum rolls. Who else has been inspired to give up 'bacca?
  17. My oh my. So noone knows. An 87 MJ has a most left verticle slot that is broken out. Don't know if it was an indicator light or a switch. Or importantly, what it did. The 3 others are blanks. 0n 89, all 4 are blanks.
  18. Minuit, so nothing was offerred by Jeep on the right side but the clock at the top? What about the left side. 2nd spot from top is an up arrow for 5 speed to shift up. 4th from top is Emiss Maint. Anyone know about others. Also rectangular ones lower left side
  19. Eagle, the truck is at the mechanic shop. I will check that tomorrow
  20. I assume I need to buy new narrower rims and tires? I want to buy my way out of this even if it cost me. Can you make the space go away?
  21. As a matter of confession, I never bought a set of rims without buying a whole vehicle. I have an 87 MJ that a prior owner must have bought and spent 2 days updating. I bought it becauseof lack of rust. Has chrome oversized wheels that make bad noises when turning the wheels past a happy point. I want to save the look but not lift the truck. Love the look of wide tires. JeepDriver might (or not) say that I am ignoramus extremous gloriamo us. Looking for low maintance even if it cost me front end. Are chrome rims offerred in different thicknesses of chrome? What is max size I can get away with without lifting? Don't assume I know squat
  22. Well, link us to it Pastorious so we can get there rapidly. And in this same thread
  23. HOrnbord, do you know the answer for the left slots?
  24. Minuit would you post your link to this thread so dumbasses, like me, can find the way to your radio site?
  25. I dying here. Lol. No offense meant to Pete or his dongle.
