:agree: Buy a torn up xj and mount your plow stuff up to it, fix the work truck and have two MJs as toys

He is still SUA in tye rear, blocks would lower it, and he already has spacers, id go for zj coils, thats what I'm gonna use, but they won't help rubbing. Try the wj LCAs, that is your best bet

That is pretty cool though... small world

When your engine is at near to and at WOT it is developing little vacuum, so youll have issues with your vac opperated stuff when overtaking, etc

Fan Pulley Replacement/Elimination
kro10000 replied to kro10000's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did this a couple of years ago: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=8342&p=100730&hilit=electric+fan#p100730 Okay, I have a spare factory auxiliary fan lying in the garage I think I'll probably go that route. Although Ill probably just use an adjustable controller that uses a radiator probe, like $30 from my store anyhow, that's what I have used in the past with TJs. -
Fan Pulley Replacement/Elimination
kro10000 replied to kro10000's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think a shorter belt would allow me to go ahead and bypass that pulley, running directly from the crank to the alternator -
Fan Pulley Replacement/Elimination

Well the bearings are out so it defeats the purpose to remove the fan and not the pulley as well. -

jeep gladiator.....real nice truck...can it be purchased?

I hope you're joking... I can't wait for the death of the compass Theres a little fight to bring a "scrambler" to the table, but it wasn't included in the chrysler-fiat 5 year plan they released lately. (on a side note, if you haven't read that yet, you should http://www.allpar.com/corporate/chrysle ... -plan.html) -
So now I have a noise coming from my belt drive that sounds like littly birds chirping, it's driving me nuts, I am about to start pulling hair out :fs1: . I used to get a squeal if I revved over 2k, but now it no longer squeals, it just chirps intermittantly all the time (and getting progressively worse). So I replaced the smooth idler pulley next to the compressor, no change. I noticed when it was squealing that you could see the belt move back on the fan pulley, so I think that may be the culprit. So I work for oreillys and couldnt find the fan pulley or the corresponding bearings in our E catalog (though admittedly I haven't searched as hard as I could) but I have a feeling that they aren't going to be available from us. Is the pulley and bearing one separate unit, or individual replacable pieces? I am now considering getting rid of the mechanical fan and pulley all together, I have done a couple taurus E fans on TJs in the past, and that isn't too difficult. Ill just have to use a shorter belt correct? If anyone has experience with using the E fan here, I'd be interested in hearing how it taxed the electrical system, my buddies 2.5 TJ never liked it so much.

What's the Best Turbo Diesel Swap?
kro10000 replied to case5412's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
if you do end up wanting to do it, the diesels i am condisering are either the mercedes OM617 5 cyl diesel (literally indestructable), or the VW IDI turbo 1.9 -
I believe 84-86 had an 11 bar grille

Whats interesting to note is toyota used pretty much the exact same transmission, but kept the power/comfort switch

:clapping: :rotfl2:

:agree: :agree: :agree: sad truth

I think I may be looking at the OM617 again... I hadn't as of yet, found someone who had sucessfully mounted an AX-15 behind the benz. I want to hit myself, it was only a couple of months ago that I went to look at a good-running old benz with that 5 banger for $400. I decided I didnt want it, because the body was shot (at the time I was looking for a cheap driver, the MJ hadnt changed my life yet :D ) Wouldve been perfect, except the fact that I'm stuck in suburbia, where theyll probably arrest you for starting engine swaps in the driveway... Minor details though

Even though thats a little outside of my comfort level  I'd love to see pics of that

well I'm trying to avoid having three cars, by spring ill have the mustang to drive a couple months before the teardown, so ill have that time to do the jeep engine swap

Well, I've been researching the Renault 2.1, from what it seems the Renault is regarded as a great motor over on your side of the pond, but stateside it's seen as junk. There seems to be two reasons for this as firstly, it is a european diesel and needs to be maintained as such, and either by a lack of training or pure negligence, not many of these motors had the maintenance done (or done properly). That leaves us with many non running motors, some badly running, and very few good running motors. This would not be a problem, just fix it right? Except there are NO parts here, except for one winnebago dealership out in Iowa. Now this dealership is not really that far from me, a few hours drive... This brings up my last issue, this truck is my ONLY daily driver. I simply cannot afford to have it die and have a couple days downtime whilst I wait for parts to be shipped in as I could not go get them myself. Sorry for the long rant here but I'm hoping to possibly shed some light on this motor for anyone who might be considering the swap over here in the states. The nissan SD33 is a good motor I had forgotten to consider, it is however still on the weighty side (dry weight 670 pounds). One thing I have forgotten to mention is that I carry around this entirely irrational hatred of anything automotive and japanese (or asian for that matter). I know I am entirely unreasonable, but I cannot be helped. (P.S. I know some parts of my truck are Japanese, and I hope to fix that ASAP  ) Oh and by the way Joop did I mention that I hate you?

 I getcha now

Well from the VIN, and some of the equipment, i believe this is a pioneer

Yeah, I'm in the same boat, I think that KJ motor is a little over my head (and my wallet). I'd like to keep it all mechanical for simplicities sake, I've been reading over at the VW diesel forum, and read something interesting. Apparently theres a way to convert the VW 1.9 TDI (thats the complex, high pressure, computer controlled one) to a mechanical pump, based on a hybrid pump of parts from 1.6 IDI vw diesel and cummins 4BT pump. They call it a 1.9 TDIM... Most of this is still over my head as of now, but the more I read, the more I wanna do it. With the 1.9 TDIM I should be able to work it over to make HP comperable to the 4.0, but with waaaay more torque... From a 1.9!

Yeah, I can't say too much on the headliner, I didn't install it. Its actually held onto the headliner panel with a series of carefully spaced tacks. It looks good that way, one of the things I never plan on changing on the truck
-
I know it, but I don't want an auto, and the manual transmissions are scarce (if existant) stateside. Its not a bad transmission, but its not what I'm looking for. Big issue with an auto behind a diesel, is all those torquey revs before the TC stalls are wasted. If it really comes down to it, I'll use it, but my real ultimate goal is to retain the factory driveline (except the dana 35 obviously)
