Using an NP-242 lever for a home made posi lock
kro10000 replied to Tri_X_Troll's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ive got one in my mj, the previous owner installed it when he did the 4x4 conversion. He used a newer np231 that didnt have provisions for the axle disco, but he really wanted a disco front axle... not sure what else to tell ya except it works just fine. Although I personally didnt install it, from what i can tell its pretty straightforward. -
Spray-on bedliner coated wheels?
kro10000 replied to JohnQ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Youd definately need to have them balanced afterwards (though if there arent tires mounted you will have to do that anyway). I do foresee future issues with it though, the do-it-yourself jobs tend to flake over time, and thats gonna throw off your balance. If I were gonna do it, I'd consider getting a pro job done (line-x, rhinoline, etc.) However JKs use a different boltpattern so they arent gonna fit fit up to a stock mj hub... I'm assuming these wheels are destined for the mj? -
2000 XJ motor in a 1989 MJ
kro10000 replied to terrawombat's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Found where I read that from, four wheeler magazine's stroker build article We learned the hard way that not all Four-O's are created equal. Our engine was destined for a 2000 Wrangler. The low-mileage original engine was being saved for another purpose, so a used engine from the early '90s was procured. We learned the hard way that there are significant external differences between the '00-and-later engines ('99-and-later for the WJ) and the earlier ones. Eye exams for all were ordered. It was as obvious as a garish Aloha shirt at a funeral. Water pumps, accessory mounting, engine mounts, induction systems, and more-all changed. Installing an older engine into a newer rig, or vice versa, involves adaptation-doable but adding to the financial burden. The best advice is to start with your original engine or a similar year range. Now this is an article about TJs so it may be different for the XJ/MJ... Seeing as it has been done before I may be totally wrong, but I'd just advise you to check Good hunting -
K thanks guys, that was about what I was thinking, just in previous experience (mustang) burnt valve seals meant it was gonna burn some oil pretty much all the time. Anyway were gonna pull the plugs soon and see which cylinders have been infected... I hope this goes to show all that just because they're cheap (titan) doesnt mean they're a good idea... If you don't wanna build it yourself, spend the extra $$$ and get a hesco. I have a suspicion that this ain't gonna be the end of our issues.

See thats what I thought, but I proved myself wrong. If you have a renix buddy nearby I'd see if you could "borrow" his coil. If anything it rules out a simple explanation. Definately try pouring fuel down the intake, itll rule out fuel issues. Although by the sound of it, youve got fuel. Anyway good luck

2000 XJ motor in a 1989 MJ

i have read somewhere that all the mounting points for accessories were changed for 99, that all are metric, so youd need the newer accessory drive as well -

Should help with the rubbing issue then... Will make ol' red look a bit better than with the balled kelly safari AWRs that its got on it. -

Well I found a good used set of five goodyear MT-Rs (245/75R16s) off of a TJ rubi... $150, going to go look at them asap... Not 31X10.50s, but they should work nicely until i do the lift, fix the floors, replace windshield, fix rockers, replace doors... etc etc etc. I'm a glutton for punishment, but a $1200 4x4 mj was too good to pass up, even the ac works  -

2.5 Renix to 4.0HO Swap
kro10000 replied to FireFighter32's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
well i know on tjs that the engine mounts on the 2.5 are mounted in a different location then the 4.0 so plan on doing some fabrication -
well if you are going to do the work you might consider just going SBC, you should be able to get a basic 305 or 350 for the 4.3

:agree:
-
Well if youre gonna do all that work might as well put in a cummins 6BT :D might need to slightly reinforce the chassis... maybe... naw :chillin:
-
well this may be more difficult than you think... the 2.8 v6 belongs to the gm 60 degree family, the 4.3 is of the 90 degree variety. the 3.4 is a 60 degree motor and a direct bolt in

Hey I really appreciate that, but I got her going... after spending several hours and about $100 bucks getting her towed I figured out the trans was stuck in fifth, and played with the shifter until i pulled it out of fifth... Took me all of about 5 minutes, I'm not sure whether I'm more happy or more pissed... But yeah at the time I could put the shifter into 1-2-3-4 all of which it would lock up, but if i had the shifter in the neutral position and let off the clutch it would try to move (then stall), I couldnt get the shifter to fifth or reverse. Kinda interesting but I'm not arguing. Thanks guys for the info and the offer, I probably would have torn everything down and screwed myself if it werent fot this I live out in the Kansas City Kansas area
