8.8, what should I do?
Jackrabbit41 replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So i got my spring perches spaced out to the correct length. from outside to outside my springs are like 44.75 apart. so thats how far apart i put my new perches from the outside to the outside. Then I put my perch angle level with the housing at 0 degrees. I'm going to use shims to set pinion angle. Does this all sound correct? I'm trying to set all this up without pulling the dana 35, so thats why i want to use shims. Are they ok to use? thanks y'all -
After I get the money, probably not till next Christmas but I'm going to put an air locker in the front or a cable locker
-
Ya I'll probably just pull the driveshsft and drive around like that for a week or so
-
If I don't put it in 4wd ever can would 3.08s work with 4.10s in the back? This is probably a stupid question but I'm not sure

Ya I'm going SOA -
I have a mechanic friend that knows how to do all this stuff and I think he's gonna help me do the gears and the welding for the 8.8. If not, then yes I'll take it to a shop to have it done
-
Cool I didn't know that 4.10s and 4.11s work with each case other. And I'm probably doing the swap myself with a mechanic friend so I'm not planning on a warranty

http://www.ronsmachiningservice.net/carrier-cases/dana/dana-30-bare-open-differential-carrier-case-3-73-up-706008x has4.11 gears for dana 30 but not 4.10s. Its to bad cause they got some cheap prices

Thanks

So is all I need the ring and pinion and then a master install kit?
-
So I'm getting all the supplies for my 8.8 swap and i need to get some new 4.10s for my dana 30 cause its geared with 3.08s right now. Whats th best and cheapest ring and pinion and some websites have a lower ratio carrier. whats that? thanks and if i need anything else tell me please.

Is there anyway to set it up all before hand? like not having to take out the dana 35 id like to paint it when its out of the truck and i don't have my new lift yet so it will be awhile before i actually put it in. How long would it take to pull a 35 and put it back in? -
SOA in the back, what for the front?

So should j just center skein perches and shock mounts on the axle tube? -

If I get the 5.5 inch alexia lift should I get a SYE? Also where do I get shims for setting pinion angle? And do I need a T case drop? Thanks -
8.8, what should I do?
Jackrabbit41 replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just got the ruff stuff simple swap lot and I got the spring perches all measured out but do I do the same with the shock mounts? Should they just be level with the bottom of the tube? Thanks -
That's really nice looking. I was thinking of just modding the nates 4x4 bumper, but it would be cheaper to just make my own
-
Thanks I'll have to build it sometime this summer
-
So you built that all yourself? I'm wanting to make something exactly like that. What gauge steel did you use? And did you make that tire carrier or did you buy that?
-
So i want to get or make a rear bumper that looks like this, http://www.nates4x4.com/Comanche_Rear_Bumper_p/mjr.htm, but the thing i really want to do is add some extensions to the rear bumper that protects the quarter panels. (i got a long bed so i know and have seen how smashed up they get from coming down on stuff). I'm not really sure what/how to do this and i am just starting to weld. I want it to look like this: [/url]">http://http://s1148.photobucket.com/user/Jackrabbit123/media/33244480045_large_zpsej6zkdjd.jpg.html'> anyone got any ideas? thanks

SOA in the back, what for the front?
Jackrabbit41 replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So i can either shim it or pull the axle out and weld them on them to get correct angle. I would like to have the thing ready when i put it in so i would it be ok to just weld the perches on right even at the top and then just shim the angles i need? any disadvantage to shims? -

Jackrabbit41 replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
How do I determine spring perch angle? Or can I just put them on straight up and down and adjust pinion later when I actually swap it in? I've tried researching it but there no straight forward answers -

What's the advantage of having just drop brackets?
