o yea, its real bad, i knew it was going but had no idea how shot it actually is
-
i wonder how much of my problem is coming from my front drive shaft pretty much falling apart. The universal at the axle has so much play that i can almost take it off with just my hands

Yea, xj leaves are different and so are the perches. The specs on both your truck and the donor would help a lot answer some questions, (year, motor, trans, etc.) -
i made sure the axle nut was on good and tight, and the hubs should be right, the DS is fine and hasn't had any problems so i think they're the right ones. I think when i get home i am going to put it back together and pull the front driveshaft an see if that is what is causing the shake, who needs 4 wheel drive any way
-
Thats what i was just thinking about. The bolts were definitely on there good. I'm beginning to think that the axle shaft is supposed to be like that. The universal on the front driveshaft has been going bad, and i wonder if it finally went all the way, and thats causing the shake. If anyone has a non CAD axle and they could check there PS axle shaft for me and see where that plastic ring sits that would be awesome

After inspecting the the PS axle shaft and seeing nothing wrong with it, i have been thinking of ideas to fix it as it sounds like its not too common of a problem  . I was thinking of adding a spacer of sorts similar to the plastic ring already on the shaft. Probably not the best plan, but i just want my jeep back :( something similar to this :dunno: Image Not Found

i pulled the shaft before, and the splines were all good, nothing damaged or broken. Checked inside the diff, and didn't see anything wrong either. It seems like the shaft just magically got longer

Sorry, should change my sig, i only have the 92 now, sold the XJ. But here are a few pictures of what i have. This is the outside of the shaft with the plastic ring tight up against the axle tube. Image Not Found And this is the position of the axle shaft on the inside. The red arrow is pointing to the shaft itself, the green to the rod looking thing its touching, disregard the yellow Image Not Found

looks like i have everything thats there, i'll try an take a picture an show what i mean about the shaft sitting in too far
-
well the shaft is still good, but something is very wrong. When i put the axle shaft back in place, the end rested up against the rod looking thing in the middle of the spider gears. I don't know if there is supposed to be something holding the shaft in, but it seems like there is a piece missing, like a spacer to keep the shaft at the correct length. :wall: :help:

And here is a picture of how far it pushed out.... Image Not Found

my tire was still sitting straight, but it is definitely wobbling when i drive
-
that very well could have happened to mine

Was driving to school this morning when all of the sudden i heard a bang and my front end started shaking much worse than it normally does. Pulled over, checked all the linkage and everything up front and it was all tight. Decided to take it back home, couldn't do much over 30 with it due to the shaking. Just got home and looked at it and it looks like the PS axle shaft slid out a little bit, maybe 1/2 inch to where you can see the white plastic ring. Also, when i changed out my hubs, the shafts slid out, but they went right back in when i pushed the hub back in, bolted up fine so i didn't think anything of it. Going to pop open the diff and the whole PS again an see what i can find. Wondering if anyone has ideas on what could have happened

My Jeep Comanche Question Thread
88pioneer replied to 1tonMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Peugeot trannies have a known reputation for being weak, and an AX 15 is not just drop the old one and and bolt the new one in, there is a lot more to it -
might have to pencil in the 23rd and head down there

This site has helped me too much not to give back, threw a few bucks your way Pete. Not a lot, but then again i don't have much

Not your typical MJ......
88pioneer replied to WahooSteeler's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
i would buy it, and hack up that flat bed and make it look better. Then i think it would actually look pretty cool -
My problem was most of my bolt heads rounded off :fs1:
