  1. Okay this is going to be a long post. 1987 Pioneer 4.0 reman longblock Renix closed cooling system everything new but heater core (burped and filled properly) new aux fan (cycles on and work properly) New TPS, CPS and all sensors I have a new 4.0 reman longblock installed and AW4 trans rebuild. After getting it all back together and some tuning, properly index dizzy, vacuum lines sorted, O2 sensor, new cat and down pipe, new mts fuel pump/filter, fuel pressure is good, only get a random REM warning for Lean condition. Truck idles at 800-900 rpm, vacuum at idle is 14-18 and map is solid. and will rev to the moon in park or neutral. Once in rpms will not go above 3k. For some reason REM isn’t reading trans information (need to troubleshoot with @NickInTimeFilms. Only issue I can find are some very slight exhaust leaks, muffler is fairly new but does have a krinkel in it from before the engine and trans work. Old motor had bad compression and a broken valve when opened up and had backfired really badly a couple time after muffler install. I have tried two separate trans computers and seem to get identical results. I have done 90+% of @cruiser54 tips including the C1 delete. What are you guys thinking?
  2. I’ll see what I can figure out. Unfortunately or fortunately we are a Mac/Apple family.
  3. Replacing the upper front control arm bushings. Does anyone have a trick, homemade or special tool to set the bushings in the axle housing? Not enough room for a deadblow hammer.
  4. Exhaust kind of fixed, at least it’s not rubbing against the trans mount crossmember any more. Think I discovered a small hole/leak on the muffler/cat connection. A little more tinkering with the tuning and she’s purring now. IMG_4326.MOV IMG_4327.MOV
  5. Been a little bit since I’ve updated the thread. Finally got INKY back from shop. She has a new heart and rebuilt trans, but still need a little fine tuning. Mech that did the work ended up not living up to his reviews. I had to redo the exhaust work, change out a cracked thermostat housing, repair/replace the O2 sensor connector and knock sensor. Reset the tps and replace the idler pulley. She’s now running strong, just a few more things to straighten out and paint to finish.
  6. Just a thought: if you’ve swapped your gauge cluster that also has the possibility of causing a draw. See this thread:

    Unfair deals.

Down here in NW Florida you can't find a Jeep of any type for less than $5k that isn't roached out.

    @Torq_Shephas hooked me up.
  9. Looking for a good trans computer for 1987 4.0 4x4 Auto (AW4 transmission).
  10. I should have my truck back from the shop doing my trans rebuild in a few days and will get the measurements for you then.

Transfer of ownership, this truck now resides with @scaleless. Can’t wait to see what he does with it.
  12. I just did this and sanded mine, but your best option is a weak paint remover/thinner and rag. I had to do a lot of sanding and to get a good finish that would take paint and not just soak it up.
  13. Few more previews of the pieces I’ve have painted. Hoping to get truck back in a week or so and get to work on doors, cab and bed. Will not be a show truck but a decent 20 footer.
  14. Posted on local marketplace, located in Enterprise, Alabama.
  15. Following as I have the same problem.
  16. Here’s a pic of mine, they were on the truck when I purchased it so I have no idea how they decided the mounting location. They are pretty much perfect for me. Black and chrome are same mirrors just painted. I’d get some measurements, but truck is currently at a shop getting a heart and lung transplant. IMG_3806.MOV
  17. Sneak preview of the new color.
  18. Sounds good! PM sent.
  19. Looking for a new egr valve for my 1987 4.0 Renix. Not wanting to delete it as I am putting in a new longblock and need to keep systems working for warranty purposes. What are folks using? I can’t seem to find anything on the web.
  20. Picked up the reman longblock today and dropped everything off with the shop that’s doing the swap and trans rebuild. Fingers crossed I’ll be driving it again in a couple weeks with a 4yr unlimited mile warranty on the engine and a 12 month 12k warranty on the transmission.
  21. LOL!!!! Took a while to discover the truck name, settled on INKY after deciding on paint color (Matte Ink Blue).
  22. Looking for an alternator bracket for my 87 4.0 Renix. Top mount for alternator on mine is broken.
  23. Will be a couple of weeks before I get it fitted. Just got word (INKYS) new heart will be here mid next week. Going to let a professional do the surgery and rebuild the AW4 while he is doing the heart transplant. Fingers crossed I’ll have a dependable daily driver by the end of the month.
  24. Got mine cut at the local ACE, didn’t charge me. I did have to do a little clean up with the drimel cutoff wheel and wire brush. The blanks I used had a bit thicker bar in the middle than the originals.
