I'm missing a few parts to make the car complete, but it's getting there
-
It's an '83 with a 305, 4 barrel, 700r4 auto tranny, and a 3.45 posi rear end, oh has t-tops too
-
Oh, and the only non ethanol fuel available in my area is premium fuel, which is quite a bit more per litre. I know quadrajets are great! I have one on my 5.0 firebird, and I get 30+ mpg (Canadian gallons). Makes me think twice about putting the 383 stroker I've been building for it into it.
-
It was just an idea seeing as how I have the 4.0 sitting around. I just thought the 4.0 would bump my power and fuel economy up, and yes, I'd want to stay with the fuel injection. I do put fuel stabilizer in, but it seems like the car. Still has issues, I also run two fuel filters on it. I actually would prefer to use my comanche for my main truck, but I don't know it would handle my 200 gallon water tank. I really do appreciate the input on this though!

I have an '86 Dodge Ram 1/2 ton. It's got the 318 with a 727 torque-flight auto tranny. Rear end is a 9 1/4" with 3.08 gears (it originally had 2.95's, and was an 8 1/4"). The motor is starting to need s rebuild, and the carb (2 barrel holly) is less than ideal most of the time, with the crappy gas around it requires cleaning if it sits for 2 weeks. I was wondering if a 4.0 litre would be a good swap? Is there any adapters to mate it to my tranny, or special motor mounts? I have a parts '94 XJ with a 4.0 and an auto tranny. I just thought it might be a worthwhile swap. Has anyone attempted this before?

I don't know if this will help anyone, but sometimes rockauto will have users manuals for sale. Kinda shocked me, but I saw it available for my '83 pontiac firebird trans-am.

Lol, it was a hot rod mustang with a 454 in it. Basicly was done up as cheap as the guy could do it. -
I have one from a Toyota car that I adapted. It didn't fit when I got it, but I simply took and pounded a nut into the knob. Hasn't offered to move or come off yet. Best part was that it cost me nothing!

I just picked a roll bar up, and set it in the box, to see how it looked. Guess I need to make some brackets too now, lol
-
Could it be an exhaust leak? I've heard of some leaks by the manifold making strange noises.
-
I love my standard, just have to keep in mind that most of the torque is low in the rpm band. I keep forgetting, cause my daily driver is a '85 honda civic w/ 5 spd. It's pretty much exactly the opposite! Lol

You will have to be careful if you do a lot of spinning. My buddy builds drag cars, and once had a 8.8 he built with two ds win star axels. He never felt safe to use slicks on it because axels tend to get twisted a certain way from use. But concidering that you probably aren't hooking 400 hp up to them, it will probably be fine. -
I couldn't find a picture of the one I put in my dodge 318, but it was like a roller chain, but had an extra "brace" on each link. Thanks for your input on this, I just wanted to be sure I wasn't going to be putting an inferior part into my engine.
-
Ok, just the ones I've used on other engines have a double roller, or look similar to this. Just had never seen one with just a single roller chain before.
-
So, I picked up some timing gears, and chain off of rockauto for my '90 comanche (4.0 l). Do these look like good enough quality? It is sealed power brand. Just wondering, because most timing sets I've seen have the triple braced links, instead of the double.

Sad what our world is coming to. Gone is the $100 paint job, and the $50 motor swaps. Anything that is older than 5 years old, they don't want to look at, and the ones they do, well now! they want over 4 grand to paint my 83 firebird, that has t-tops!! Very little paint needed imo
-
Yeah, most body shops get a ton for insurance jobs, so they don't want to do anything else. It's really unfortunate
-
Yeah, mine needs a better windshield, plus needs some body work around the edges when it's out. Body shop wants a minimum of a grand to do it, probably closer to 3 grand (their words) so I'm gonna do it myself.
