  1. Thanks, I don't think I've ever gotten the run around so much from one company. I haven't decided exactly what to say in the horrible feedback they'll be getting. (not that it matters, they sell so much stuff, it'll be buried in a couple hours)
  2. I thought about Outlaws, You could even stretch things, and say they're 'borderline correct' for MJ's, since YJ Renagades used them while MJ's were still being built, (= they're a legit factory part that you probably could've gotten 'dealer installed' on a new MJ if you new the right strings to pull), Tho I'm set with these Ravine's now
  3. Thanks Hornbrod, that would help allot. Have you tried these before, is that the right size (1.790" Diameter)? They also make a 2.180" set (PN 2486). (I do have a tape measure if you're not sure ;) )
  4. Thanks! Kinda takes the 'Grandpa' out of it tho :( With the coil swap, and AT tires, the floaty-soft ride is long gone, might as well take the mudflaps off, and stop calling it Grandpa. :( Maybe it's not too late, Think I can still save it with some whitewalls, curb feelers, and an AARP sticker for the back?
  5. I was working on something similar for the trail MJ (using ripstop woodland camo), but I haven't gotten past doing the visors yet. I was thinking about using a kit from that E-bay guy for the Cordovan (Burgandy) headliner in the Granpa Jeep, but someone had posted that he's not selling them anymore. Let me know how that works out with the ripstop camo, i hashed over the idea of doing that with the digital MARPAT myself. At this rate, it might take a while  I have one & a half visors done, and it's been on the back burner while I work on the daily driver (gotta make sure the truck that takes me to work is happy first :D )
  6. Just to complete the thread, I ended up going with some Craigslist wheels & tires: Before: After: Yeah, the 2wd hubs interfere with the centercaps.
  7. So, I picked up 5 of these on Craigs list for $250: And while I was bolting them on, I swapped in some beat 3" Rusty's coils (~1.5" lift vs these 20 year old 2wd coils), and some used (but better than what was there) shocks: I also swapped on one of the 97+ mirrors I got off Ebay (didn't have time for the other one yet: Yep, the centercaps don't work with the 2wd hubs, and yep, I really need to swap out that bashed ft bumper.
  8. Sorry for jumping to the conclusion, I saw a post on IFSJA about you possibly selling your NOS Cherokee body, and the Ebay auction popped up a week, or so after, I figured what would be the chance of two DIFFERENT 30 year old, NOS Cherokee bodies showing up for sale within a couple weeks of each other. me = :dunce:
  9. Untouched, optioned out gem for the win! Very nice. What are your plans with it? I'd hate to hack up something so nice, but I'd be thinking about a 3.4L (making it look like it was still the factory installed 2.8L), and an 86' AMC M20 rear (if it doesn't have one already). Tho 4.10's + 160HP w/o overdrive would have me thinking about an AW/4 swap...... Better just leave it stock.
  10. XJ/MJ's were the most aerodynamic Jeeps made when they were introduced, but all that meant was they were the most aerodynamic barn doors available. They also put AMC 2.5L's in bigger/heavier, but more aerodynamic looking Dakota's, Makes me wonder if they got the same MPG, slightly better, slightly worse, or ? :dunno:
  11. Another good choice, compact, good stock HP (225HP seemed like allot in the little Stangs back then  ), and an almost unlimited upside if you build it. But if I had my choice of anything, I'd would be a 4.7L Dodge/Jeep + 5spd manual in the MJ, with a clean, factory looking install. :chillin: My heart says I'd rather an AMC V8 (that would bolt right up to the NV3550 in there), but it would cost more to adapt a decent, modern fuel injection setup than it would to buy the junkyard 4.7L/5spd combo.
  12. Depends on what you're looking for. I'd love to see a head to head 4.7L V8 Comanche vs Stroker L6 Comanche shootout, but I doubt I ever will. Till then, you just have to guess at the stuff the V8 would do better, and the Stroker would be better at. 4.7L V8 specs: original 1999 16 Valve OHC V8 Hp: 235hp @4800 rpm Torque: 295 ft-lbs @3200 rpm Fuel: 87 octane unleaded Bore x stroke: 3.66" x 3.40" Compression Ratio: 9.5:1 Weight (complete): 438 lb Latest & Greatest 2010 4.7L's: Dakota 4.7L Flex Fuel: 302 Horsepower 329 lb-ft Torque Ram 4.7L Flex Fuel: 310 Horsepower 330 lb-ft Torque And the 2002-2005 4.7L HO HP fell about 1/2 way between the two: 9.7:1 compression ratio 265-270 BHP @ 5100 RPM 325-330 LB-FT @ 3600 RPM Good 4.7L info here: http://www.wjjeeps.com/ho_engine.htm#INTRO
  13. What didn't you like about it? I like the 4.7L V8's, especially the later HO's.
  14. This may seem as strange to some here as it did to me when I heard it...... but I recently heard, that sometimes.... people on Craigslist lie  :D
  15. I got mine from Ebay for ~$100, someone recently posted that aftermarket tanks are missing some baffle that factory tanks have. I didn't know this at the time, and didn't notice the difference. :dunno:
  16. I'm pretty sure this is that "ebay guy": http://myworld.ebay.com/smsheadliners/ http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=65057 Seems like he is only 'mostly' out of the headliner business. He's probably backed up with requests from the FSJ guys, but it might not hurt to ask. :dunno:
  17. :agree: Zach is pretty active on IFJSA http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/member.php?u=219 Would be cool if he could stop in here. 8) It also looks like he's the real deal, seems that NOS FSJ body on Ebay a couple of weeks ago: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21526 came out of his inventory.
  18. I was asking around (Boston) for MJ 44's, and the one bite I got was $400. I'd rather use a stock MJ axle in this Jeep, but for $400, there are better/stronger options I'd go after. $250-300 is the range I was hoping for. :dunno:
  19. Pulling bushes out for the neighbor: new one carried a transmission home for the ZJ:
  20. :rotf: It's hard to argue with that. :agree: Hopefully the rest of his MJ stuff is nice, and starts flying off the shelves  We REALLY could use a decent supplier of this stuff.
  21. Thanks! A lot of the CNC (computer numerically controlled) nuts would say I kind of took the easy way out by purchasing a pre-made and pre-assembled machine. I didn't really see a feasible way for myself to build one without putting forth a fairly large expense for a mill and all of the necessary tooling I'd need. However, now this machine, building one of my own doesn't seem like such a daunting task anymore. I can use it to build all of the motor adapters and whatnot and the rest is standard box tube and angle iron that can be picked up at any local hardware store that sells these metal shapes. Part of me does want to build my own table to take care of all the shortcomings I've found with the unit I currently have. By the way - how did the radio and gauge cluster work out?  I took the faceplate off your radio, and swapped them for the nearly unused buttons that were on my broken AM/FM only radio. It came out very nice, I took pics, but haven't uploaded them yet. I'll do a quick write up soon. It's in the trail truck now, but I think I'll be swapping it into my daily driver MJ instead (your radio is more better  ). The gauges haven't gone in yet, I'm having gas gauge issues with the DD right now, hopefully it'll stop raining long enough this weekend to take care of that, and some other stuff. Thanks again Tim!
  22. Yep. They all do different things when you pull them. & hooking the temp & oil pressure gauges up to the idiot light senders will max them out.
  23. Forget the 3 feet of lift for a second, I'm impressed with doing a one piece flip nose on an XJ. :clapping:
  24. Tim, can you use that stuff to make more Router Tables & Plasma's for the rest of us. :brows: Very nice BTW.
