30x9.5's will fit on factory 7's no problem, but with deep back spacing factory wheels (5.25" on most 7's, tho some ZJ wheels had 5"), the tires might rub your LCA's, or catch the backside of the ft flares when you turn. If you have a 2wd, make sure you check the wheel clearance on the hub when you bolt them up.

 Tho I'm a sucker for Silver MJ's :agree: (+ Patriot Blue & Maroon).

 :agree: Tho I'd REALLY like an ex-cop Charger.  (Though it doesn't seem like they'll be as maintenance free/easy to work on)

Fender flares for a Comanche with Cherokee 2001 front
jpnjim replied to dan12's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 2 door and 4 doors flares are identical... I didn't want to be the one to say it. -
Thanks Rob, I think I take pleasure in owning unusual stuff no one wanted when new (like AMC's & Jeep Pickups ;) ), which is probably why the Marauder looks so good to me. I looked at a couple of ad's for Marauders, looks like the same car as what you sold (only older & with a Merc badge) goes for $11-16K. :ack: BTW, an 80K mile 05' CVPI for $1500 sounds like a steal to me.

When were they ever anything else? Stuff sold at Lincoln-Mercury Dealers ONLY: more recently: and others, but the best vehicle ever sold exclusively at L-M dealers.....

I have no idea why, but when I'm not thinking of anything else, Sabbath's NIB plays in my head. For any of you young'ins:

Column shift MJ's rule. Nice find. And $100 isn't bad, but I bet that was a 'cover-all' price (meaning it would've been the same even if you had grabbed more stuff off it). Hopefully it has a 44. :chillin:

Also found this cop-chop of the above car here: http://forums.officer.com/forums/showth ... lice-car... And after making sure I spelled Marauder correctly (with google), I know really want an 03-04 Marauder. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Marauder

I don't get the rush to COMPLETELY drop a name. Same with Mopar dropping Plymouth, and GM dropping Oldsmobile & now Pontiac. Why the need to completely abandon the name when you drop it as a product line? You can still ditch all the superfluous (expensive) tiers of executives that catered to the brand, but instead of burying the name, and any benefit you might get from it, use the names as they were intended: Plymouth 'Plymouth' could have been retained as the entry level & fleet version of select lines: like the cargo-minivan they currently offer, maybe a 2wd sedan delivery version of the Nitro/Libby, and even a Caliber with very select available options sold as a Plymouth Valiant. Cop & taxi Chargers could also be moved the the Plymouth line, fleet only Chargers = Plymouth Belvederes. The difference would be ZERO overlap in lines, And the name would still exist if the situation ever improved, and they wanted to again expand their line. Moving low end sales to fleet only, or minimal options only would also streamline the build process for the sales with the lowest profit margins (Base Minivans/Calibers, etc) Oldsmobile OK, I'd probably let this one die (sorry to any Olds freaks :D ). Pontiac Camaro is a Chevy line, so is Corvette, Die hard Pontiac nuts probably won't like the idea, but Pontiac could've been kept around, and restructured to be part of Chevy. That would give you a crack at (finally) making a new Pontiac Firebird, or even JUST a high end Trans-Am version. That would also be an end-run around the corporate restriction surrounding Corvette (Pontiac ALWAYS wanted their own version of that). A 2011 Pontiac flavored Firehawk Banshee would give GM all the free press they could handle. Pontiac had created a better looking Vette in the 1960's (Banshee), but GM wasn't interested: Mercury This name also has value, even if they only kept it around for a single line, Crown Vics are pretty much fleet only these days, keep it that way, release the replacement that's been worked on (awesome lines by the way ) But only available to the public (non-fleet) as a 'Mercury Marauder'. Give a run for the money against the Chargers, 300's, Camaro's & Challengers, while keeping the name around for a single, high profile vehicle. & by calling it a Marauder, it gives the perception of special, limited edition, etc etc. (Compared to releasing the above vehicle as a Crown Vic, or LTD :ack: )

I just got a equally tasteless E-mail, with this picture in it. Any guesses what the caption was?

The two worst things about wheeling an AW-4 auto are: A) the friggen downshift to first. it happens when you least expect it, and usually don't want it. If you put the shifter in 1/2, and are in 2nd gear, expect when you hit a certain MPH (while de-accelerating), SLAM it's going to bang 1st gear. I countered this by either 1) not accelerating fast enough in 1/2 for it to upshift to 2nd (it can't slam into 1st if you never leave first), or 2) whenever it does shift to second, put the shifter into '3'. Less control, but you don't have to worry about it slamming 1st. The other bad thing is: B) very easy to drive through the brakes in low range (especially going down hill). shifting into neutral is the only way to avoid this, but that's not usually a good idea. only other way is to anticipate it, and try not to build too much speed in the first place. After 10 years of only wheeling manual trans Jeeps, I bought the 98 XJ (in 01), first trip out I thought I had lost the brakes. Scary part is you can get more control with lower gears, but then the brakes are even less effective. Other than those two things, the auto is even easier to wheel than the 5spd, most of the time you put it in low range 1/2, and your only job is to steer.

Whatcha buildin'? FWIW, I had ancient G60-15 Dunlop Qualifier GT's when I was young punk. Best tires I ever ran Squared off shoulders, cool looking tread, and small block letters. :chillin:

The motormount mounting points changed at some point: http://www.jeepstrokers.com/forum/viewt ... =15&t=1047 Does this mean 01' XJ & 01' WJ's are different? I'm not sure, some claim the XJ block is different from the WJ/TJ block, but :dunno: I didn't find the original thread I was talking about above, but someone had blown their 4.0L WJ engine, and the junky guy doubled the price for a used engine because it was a harder to find WJ block. It was batted back & forth, then some of the posts seemed to confirm their was motormount & water pump clocking changes. A Naxja thread also discusses it: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1015349

Considering the source, it's probably something less than legit (there's definitely some crack-potness to the site). The guy did link some legal sources, but most of them were pretty old. :dunno: You'd think there'd be some type of American Civil Liberties something or other concerned with the sanctity of the home, but the ACLU we have is already far too concerned with defending NAMBLA, and Illegal Alien's 'Civil Liberties'. :shake:

Honestly, a man can't back down any further than his home. If they back you into a corner at home, there is no where to go but back through them. I know that sounds like crazy talk, but I'm really glad I haven't been held to the laws, rules, regulations & codes you guys have been through (yet). Our founding fathers would NOT have put up with 1/2 the crap we do today.

I was just reading this the other day (here maybe?) I'm thinking the post had said WJ's have different motor mount bosses. I'd look in to it a little more before giving him the go ahead.

MJ Rear Bumper Reviews...

I have a very strong feelings regarding the sanctity of a mans home, and that includes his driveway. I hope this gets straightened out for the better. :headpop: Good luck.

Tera Knuckles would've been my second guess. :D (I actually figured most of my fellow MJ'ers were too cheap to go that route ;) ) Sooner, or later I'll get around to swapping WJ knuckles on the Trail-MJ. With the tie rods under the steering arm (stock position), it seems like stock 16's, or aftermarket (less backspacing) steel 15's work. I'm just wondering if both will still work with the TRE's flipped. I don't know how close/different the Tera arms are from stock WJ arms (they look pretty close), but it looks like I may have to try, and see for myself. Thanks for the fast reply. (and for the close up pics!)

97+ XJ door seals in a MJ
jpnjim replied to ricksjeepster's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
At first I ran stock 88' seals with 01' doors (on my 88'), and it was fine. Then I swapped in the 01' seals, and the doors still closed just as easily. :dunno: -
Couple questions Dave, where did you get the MJ length steering arms for (I'm assuming) WJ knuckles? Did you have any clearance issues after flipping the TRE's? (how about with factory wheels?) Thanks, Jimmy
