    VIN check?

I just put a deposit on a car today, I checked the VIN here (free insurance company check): https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_aw ... k/vincheck and it was clean (no real detail with this free check tho). Anyone know of any other decent free ones, or the best deal $$ wise for a single VIN check. I saw everything from a single carfax report for $44.95 to some $5.99 VIN checks, that looked pretty shady to me.
  2. UG. :( Shutout again.
  3. Done! 2:1 now.
  4. 1 out away! But I haven't seen any Comanche Club signs in the audience.
  5. 'Grandpa' has 2" in front (sagged 3" Rusty's coils), and stock (2wd) leafs out back, with 30's: Vs stock ht 2wd & 205/75's:
  6. PS, thanks to Texas for smacking the Yanks around, that was
  7. Thanks for the pic: You wouldn't mind if I sold a few thousand copies of that on Ebay & Craigslist? ;) Enjoy the game, and Go Texas
  8. I pulled the same sunroof out of an 85 XJ, when I junked it. It did not leak when it was in the 85'. I made the leap, and cut a perfect hole in the roof of my 88' MJ for it. Then sealed the frame to the roof completely, and it leaked around the glass every time a cloud appeared overhead. On the positive side, it made my Jeep into a 'real Jeep' = the windows would fog up on the inside, the seat was always wet, and even my glasses would fog up if it was the slightest bit humid out. I don't think the frame went in out of square, since it measured square before, and after I sealed it to the roof. And the factory drain tubes (that run into the A-pillars) were connected, and in place. Best I can figure is either the glass, or the MJ's roof had a slight warp to it, and that was letting water in. I loved to pop it out when wheeling (perfect escape hatch, to connect a cable, or get something out of the bed when wheeling), so I didn't have the heart to just seal it up. Other complaint had more to do with my specific MJ, having the tire overlap part of the roof meant I had to decide to have the sunroof in, or out, at the beginning of a wheeling trip, and sudden downpours meant I had to flip the spare down, to put the roof back in, or get really really wet.
  9. To explain my original statement: The XJ was a true Sport Utility Vehicle. Even though it was the fastest SUV for a while, it wasn't built to be the fastest, or biggest, baddest, cutest, most lovable, most luxurious, or most stylish (even when new). It was built to be a lean, plain vanilla: people mover, parts fetcher, snow pusher, from cab, to cop car, to mall security car (EVERY mall around here had an XJ, with a plow on it for everything from shuttle service, to jump starts, cleaning snow away from the entrance to chasing kids out of the parking lot after hours). Not to just pick on the Libby, but there isn't ANYTHING that I've seen that comes close to being an XJ replacement. If you could put a snow plow on a Marathon Cab, 1980's Toyota Corola, or a 1967 Rambler American, you'd be close. Basic transportation that will carry 4, or 5 people every day, stand up to neglect for a couple hundred thousand miles, and not complain when your daughter jumps the curb learning to drive, or your son gets in races with it home from school. There's a reason XJ's were on the most stolen lost for so long, blending in with all the other SUV's, while being quick enough to run from the cops, and able to withstand jumping curbs & islands made them perfect getaway vehicles for crooks. Durable, plain jane, and tough. A scratched Porsche is an abomination, but a dent on the boxy XJ blends in, and adds character. I used to smile when I saw all the 'working' XJ's everywhere. I can tell you I don't see many 'working' KJ's. The 'private security company' around here had one, but they had a fleet of XJ's when they were still available. Those little Ford Escape's seem to be the 'mall car' of choice now, tho they aren't as durable, and can't clear snow. Xterra's kind of inherited the XJ's 'function over form' perception, but I don't see many of those doing the utilitarian jobs XJ's excelled at. So, KJ owners may love their Libby's, but nothing, Libby included, ever really 'replaced' the XJ, there just stopped being a single vehicle that filled that 'do it all' niche.
  10. The Liberty may, or may not be a fine vehicle, but it's introduction at the demise of the XJ set it up as an XJ replacement in the minds of many. As an XJ replacement, in my opinion, it failed.
  11. The YJ Renegade Gambler wheels I had were 15x8's, with 5.5" backspacing, exactly like the later TJ 'Gambler' style wheels. TJ Canyon wheels were also 15x8 w/5.5" BS.
  12. Buy a cheap LCD, you should be able to find a 25" LCD TV in the low $200's. If you could stand watching a 19". you can find them under $200. Or you could get a cheap 40" for $365 on Woot today: http://www.woot.com/ Then a $12 antennae at radio shack should be able to pull in FOX. (there's a website that tells you what channels should be available by your location, but I can't remember the address)
  13. Two words, Extended Cab. Not having an extended cab option killed the MJ, cheap regular cab pickups (especially cheap COMPACT regular cab pickups) had a very low profit margin. Manufacturers make their money by selling vehicles loaded with options, but most people wanting a loaded pickup wanted those options in an extended cab pickup. Not many people were after A/C, PW, PL & high end trim levels in a regular cab truck, so the MJ competed near the bottom of the pickup barrel (& for more $$ than the competition) Low numbers, along with the low profit margin killed the MJ. Why make an oddball variation on the Cherokee, that you actually make less profit margin on, especially when Cherokees were flying out of the showroom, and Comanche's were not. It's funny, the highest profit margin Jeep of all back then was the Grand Wagoneer. Even though that also sold in very low numbers, the price tag was almost all profit, since all the tooling had been bought & paid-for for 20+ years. They said the Chrysler Exec's were really sad to see it go, since most of them were using Waggy's as they're executive 'cars'. The GW went away for the same reason the XJ went away 10 years later, company image. XJ's were still high profit vehicles, right up till the last one rolled off the assembly line, but they wanted fresh & new, and both the XJ & the GW had made the Jeep line look old & dated. Stupid Chrysler/Daimler, selling Jeeps based on fashion & style, instead of utility, design & profit margin. :fool:
  14. Looks like it's a done deal now: http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/pts/2015095766.html
  15. Old story, that most here have probably already read (murdered family story, so don't click if you don't want to get :headpop: ): http://www.nypost.com/p/news/regional/i ... 37332BF73B http://gothamist.com/2010/09/15/lawyer_ ... _contr.php So many things I could post about this, but I'll leave it at :(
  16. Non-C-clip 35 = 10x1.75"
  17. Did you rent the dog month to month? Did you avoid signing the lease, in case a better dog came along? I tried renting-to-own a dog once, and didn't sign a lease, the greedy pet shop sold the dog right out from under me to someone else. (sorry ;) ) Way to go Pete  hopefully it's done & over now. I'd try to 'celebrate' quietly tho, some of those 'Respect-My-Authority" types at City Hall will dig until they find something else to bust you on, just so you don't think you got one over on them.
  18. You sure some tweaker didn't steal yur Cat?
  19. I'm active, AND dysfunctional  . ...and, it looks like, too late for you paper. What grade did you get? You can edit your title to something like "Hey! Active members reply to this thread", if you were still interested in seeing how many member's here consider themselves 'active'.
  20. Only one M in Comanche. (and welcome to Comanche Club  )
  21. I haven't had a column shift in 20+ years (last one was a straight six 74' Javelin I had in the 1980's), but I'm loving the column shift in my 'Grandpa Jeep' . Except for every time I drive the (98) XJ, and almost tear the wiper switch off the column trying to shift into drive. Hope you saved the column-shift steering column, I bet someone here would want it (I'd buy it if you were closer  ).
  22. You just gotta slap some 'Comanche Stills' labels (or something similar) on the bottles.
  23. List of what's important in life: 1)Kids/family. 2)Everything else. People who prey on children have forfeited their right to breathe air on this planet, tho it's a shame politicians in every state don't agree with that. 'Civilization' isn't worth a damn if it can't protect kids from human-animals.
  24. I just used some perforated strap (strap with 1/4" holes along it's whole length), for now. Jeep is still a work in progress. I'll probably weld one of the factory style posts to the pipe, but the bolt on generic parts store clamps have also worked fine for me in the past. I got rid of the underbed spare a long time ago, I know I was going to run big tires, plus I wanted to leave room for other stuff:
