  1. Almost any will fit, I have one out of a Chevy. You can get rebuild kits from Napa also.
  2. They use the same wiring harness no mater what gage is used. Even if you don’t have a tach in the dash the computer still needs to know the rpms.
  3. No not death wobble they don’t. It’s usually ball joint, TRE’s, track bar, and alignment issues. It is also more then likely a combo of more then just one of these things. I got it once doing 90 MPH though 270 downtown Columbus Ohio in the XJ. Not fun.
  4. Some of the older 44 LS just make noise. I one I have for the J-10 does the same thing. Did you check the R&P backlash? Throw some die on the teeth and make sure you have a good pattern.
  5. Yeah, one our XJ its about 8” lift with the stock skid. Seemed like it would hit a lot but hardly ever does. Might be that is still has short arms and the axle is pulled back some but it’s fine for now. Don’t know if that’s any help. On a side note I had a spare front skid I was going to put on my MJ but the holes on the drivers side are not taped and it’s a 4 cyl so on the other side there is a small motor dampener that uses all 3 mounting holes that the skid uses. Has anyone ever removed the motor dampener before?
  6. We pulled our RTI ramp out yesterday for a quick playful flex off. I wanted to see what the MJ would do stock before I lifted or changed tires. Well not the best but it was cool all the same. Here it is with no sway bars or RLSPV. Just for comparison here is my XJ and YJ with my trail trailer on.
  7. This is a great swap. I have done it twice and I need to find a new one and swap it in my MJ now. Who ever thought that a gas gage the size of your head would be better then a tach in a 5 speed rig? I can’t stand not knowing what the motor is doing.
  8. I see. I have the opposite problem. No Jeeps parts left in the junkyards (but mine witch is 15 Jeeps). I have never had a problem with a Napa warranting an alternator and if you did and you still have a receipt just call the corporate office or the BBB. I also get cost + 10% at Napa and a few times come home with more money then I left with after warranting stuff.
  9. I most have missed the” Various Comanches” thread. I did read the “Introduce your Comanche” and I liked but most are real close to stock.
  10. The only part on the Dana 30 that I have broken is the driver’s axle shaft. It has been due to u-joint failure each time and I swap out u-joints about once a year if they need it or not. When the joint goes the ears of the two yokes come around and just tear each other apart. I keep spares with the u-joints and unit bearings all together so if it happens I just pull the whole thing out and put a whole new one in. It can be done on the trail in under 30-min. My YJ has a FSJ Dana 44 up front and I’m doing the same swap on my XJ so the MJ will be the only one with Dana 30.
  11. I buy Lifetime Napa ones one all my Jeeps. If there is a problem I just swap it out with them, and I do that at least once a year one of them.
  12. I’ve been looking (as I’m sure we all have) for different ways of building the Comanche. I found this and thought I would share it with the ones who haven’t seen it. I would like to see more MJ’s so if you find some cool photos let me see them.
  13. Yes the TJ’s driver side shaft will work also. If you have a TJ D30 around why not. I don’t know if all the brackets are in the exact same place or not but they look pretty close.
  14. If you can get in good with someone at a NAPA you can give them the OD and ID of the seal and they can look it up in there book.
  15. The relay is connected to the motor temp sensor. When that temp sensor hits it’s happy point it will either send power to the relay or ground the relay witch in return sends power to the fan. The older 4.0L have the temp sensor on the top-rear driver’s side of the block. Newer ones are on the thermostat housing. The older one is known for doing stuff like that and sending false readings. I run both on our XJ the one on the block sends info to the computer and the one on the thermostat housing is connected to the fan relay. The fan works much better that way, plus I can hook a switch to it if I need to.
  16. I have seen it done on YJ’s and XJ’s. I was given a set of Dana 30 TJ shafts and plan on putting them in my MJ. They use the larger 44 u-joints so you need to get the outer stub shaft also and you may need to replace some seals. The unit baring should be the same. I will be doing mine in the next month if you want to hold out and see if it works.
  17. You can get high amp replacements if you have lots of lights or a winch. Mean Green or find an electric rebuild shop and have the old one rewound? Some I know I just put a 160amp one from Napa our XJ witch is the 4.0L
  18. What kind of driver are you? I ran 4.10’s with 35”-37” tires on a 30 your 7 years and only broke one shaft due to u-joint failure. That was with an AX-15 tranny. Now lock that same 30 and it won’t hold up long.
  19. The ACOS will only give me a max of 4”, So that’s where I’ll need to spend some money if the XJ springs don’t give me enough lift. TJ’s don’t have the VD Dana 30. Instead of the 3 peace shafts there is only two. They also use large U-joints. I don’t care if I explode the rear 35. I have extras, plus AMC 20’s and a few Dana 44s and a 5 on 4.5 Ford nine inch that will be the first pick for the MJ. I just want to use some spare parts. Although I think the locker is for higher gears and the 4.10 won’t fit on it. I’m doing and axle swap on my wife’s XJ. We’re going to FSJ 44’s font and rear, when I do that I’ll put her 30 & 35 4.56 gears in the MJ. Thanks for the input.
  20. Been looking for years to find a Comanche and I finally did. It’s an 89 2.5L SWB MJ. Not much to look at right now but I have a mild build up in the works. I own a small fab shop in Alaska and with the left over parts from other projects I should have about 5” of lift with under $1000 into the truck. I also have a 4.0L out of a 90 XJ that is being built into a stroker witch will find it’s way into the truck. I will be posting most of the build up here http://www.holeproofindustries.com/our% ... ges/MJ.htm as time allows me.
  21. No problem. Good luck.
  22. Low range will always sound different then high. When you say whinny do you mean like reverse sounds when you go real fast backwards? If so this is normal. A lot of low range gears and older transmission reverse gears are not helical they are straight cut gears. These straight cut gears are a lot louder. I think the NV 3550 is one of the first Jeep trannys to have helical reverse. Ever here a Dana 300? All straight gears inside, much stronger but can sound like a bucket of bolts just fell in your T/C. Listen for popping, clicking, snapping and grinding noise. The whining you described I don’t think is an issue. Check your T/C fluid just to be sure, most problems will show them selves in the fluid.
  23. So I have all this extra stuff lying around and want to throw it together for my MJ. This is a budget build mind you. $700 for the truck $100 in tune up parts and what I have here. ACOS 6 cyl XJ coils Leaf spring perches Drop pitman arm New 31 Mud Rovers Dana 35 Detroit locker TJ two piece Dana 30 shafts that use the 44 u-joints I want to get rid of the LSPV in the rear and isolate the front and rear brakes. SOA the rear and install the 6 cyl XJ coils with the ACOS up front. I can fab the control arms if need be but would like to wait to fab a long arms and I’m short on time right now. Does any one know the spring rates for the 4 and 6 cyl coils and are they the same between the XJ and MJ? If the drive line is to short I’ll pull my NP 231 w/ SYE of my YJ since the tranny is shot and waiting for a NV 4500. As for only having it for one day what is there that might be different then the XJ that I need to look out for?
  24. Hey what’s up all? I am a Jeep fiend. Don’t know how many I really have. My baby is a 94 YJ on 37”. My wife drives an 88 XJ on 33” although she can fit the 37”. I have a J-10 and a few others, but I have been looking for a MJ for years. I just picked up an 89, 2.5L but a have a spare 4.0 out of a rolled 90 XJ that I’m building a stroker out of.
