  1. No. I have a lead on another one :D
  2. Here is the sticker I found on mine: Some guys said there was a recall that required a reflash for the PCM and others say that it was for a de-tune to run 87. I guess Chrysler would only know for sure, but I haven't been able to find any good info on it.
  3. They certainly aren't easy on the wallet. The PCM may have already been flashed to accept 87 octane. Look at the PCM on the firewall passenger side. There might be a sticker on it that says it had an authorized update done. Owners were complaining that when they put 87 octane in the engine would ping even though the fuel gauge and manual say premium. Chrysler just bit the bullet and made a tune for 87 octane to shut the idiot owners up.
  4. That's a good set of in-laws to have.
  5. Very, very few did, and I believe that they were all autos. They did, however, come with buckets and the mini console. Only ever seen one though. Cherokee SE (base) models are the most likely to have the mini console. The mini console from the Cherokee is slightly larger than the one from the Comanche. The little storage area on the left hand side of the console is a perfect iPhone holder :D
  6. This is exactly how my Dad's '98 Blazer reacts when the ABS kicks on. No problems with the ABS that we know of, just the way its always been. I think your misunderstanding what I'm saying. This is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. Everything locks up. You cannot steer or do anything which is even worse because it is doing this on icy roads. In 2 days I have went thru a red light and just missed hitting someone and my wife went thru a stop sign and only avoided an accident because the other car saw her and stopped. Yea, then you've got a definite problem with your system, even if the ABS light is not on - maybe the bulb is bad? However, when the ABS system is not functioning, you normally won't have the ABS pump kick on when you try to brake, and with the vibration in the pedal and the weird sound you described, the ABS pump definitely sounds like it's coming on. The wheels should never lock up. It's an anti-lock braking system, after all...
  7. Yes.
  8. Eh, it's actually not bad when compared to some of the ABS pumps/modules that came out in the late 80's and early 90's when it really began gaining popularity. The system on my '91 3000GT is laughably bad and much much worse than the Blazer and S-10. I've actually had the ABS kick on in my Dad's Blazer and I was able to steer the vehicle to safety so I can't give it too many complaints. The system in my '91 3000GT honestly is more dangerous than safe, even when it's working 100%.
  9. :rotf: Ya, I'm kind of a big deal. Do you have many leather-bound books? What does your apartment smell like?

    GC 5.9

200K+ miles and blown head gaskets. Eh, if the interior and body were in really nice condition - maybe $1,500 max. I just bought one with 160K, straight body, decent paint (has small chips and scratches everywhere, but no dents), and an interior that I'd put at a 8/10. Paid $1,500 for it, but it had no reverse. Ended up needing to replace the whole trans for about $625 for parts/fluids. Good thing about the engine is that it's not specific to that truck. The 5.9L Magnum V8 was used in Dodge vans, Dakotas, Durangos, and Rams from 1993-2002, I believe. Parts are fairly cheap and I've seen plenty go to 250K miles and beyond. I would take a good look at the interior to make sure it's in good condition. The '98 ZJ 5.9L used a special edition leather interior that is unique to that vehicle and that vehicle only. It's REAL cowhide leather and it tends to hold up pretty well over the years. However, the oil from our hands will break it down and the leather steering wheel cover usually gets trashed in no time. Same for the shifter and the center console lid. It's a really nice vehicle and has every option imaginable. Also, a healthy 5.9L makes for a great towing rig.

  12. I have left two forums because of the way they progressed over the years. What it boiled down to was the resale value of the cars came way down and were now affordable by a bunch of young bucks who had no appreciation for the car and would ask questions that would make me shake my head. I still go to those boards every so often to see what has been going on in the community, but it's just not worth my time to weed through the threads of common questions and chest thumpers talking about how they just went 130MPH in a 45MPH zone. CC has been, by far, the best message board I've ever been a part of. People are always willing to help and whenever there is a disturbance in the peace, the moderators generally put it to rest before it gets too out of hand. I don't see too many internet-egos on this board as I do on the others that I have left and that's a very good thing.
  13. Thinking about keeping it but not really sure. Do you have a set of rust/dent free doors in black? :brows: Unfortunately, no, although I'd have to check. I have the doors from my '88MJ Sportruck that were black, but they had those big gaudy chrome mirrors from the factory that screw directly into the skin on the door. I do, however, have cash! :D Your old carpet looks better than any of my carpets in my three MJs! Interested in selling that AND the cap?!
  14. An inheritance check.
  15. I'll add a little something to the strength argument. The 242 transfer case is a very common swap for the Grand Cherokee ZJ 5.9L crowd since the stock case (the 249) usually has the viscous coupler go bad relatively early. Those trucks are putting out 250HP and 350Ft-Lb. of torque in their stock form (A LOT more torque than any era 4.0L). Many of the guys that have done the 242 swap in their ZJ's are putting out much more than that because of various modifications. Although most of the guys aren't off-roading their rigs, they are taking them to the drag strip, which is another brutal environment for drivetrains. I have yet to hear of any of those guys breaking their transfer case.
  16. PM sent. Nice choice on the new ride :D
  17. Don, As much as I hated those commercials of Cal Worthington in the 80's the Spanish speakers of Los Angeles have taken Cal's commercials, and taken them to a new level of shame. Yikes. I think a couple of those "girls" might be hiding something under their skirts.
  18. PM me your e-mail and I can send you a report. It was in an accident in 2004. Front left.
  19. $593 for buyback of the Cherokee. Kind of on the fence with this one. Normally I'd be all over that since it's worth it for parts, alone, but I think I'm at the point where I honestly have too many vehicles. Plus, I'd need to drive out to Shippensburg, PA where it's being stored, rent a trailer, and haul it back.
  20. There are so many innuendo's in this post, I don't know where to start :D
  21. It'd be nicer with a 5.9L V8 under the hood :D Sorry, had to!
  22. The 46RE, found only in the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9L Limited (but is also in many Dodge Rams, Dakotas, and Durangos with the 5.2L or 5.9L), seems to have a fairly common problem of having one of the snap rings break that holds the clutch pack together. Some of the trans experts believe it's from manually putting your shifter from drive to 2nd. Unlike the XJs, there is no 3rd gear position on the shifter - you need to disengage the OD by hitting a button on the dash to move into 3rd. The 44RH (hydraulically controller) and 44RE (electronically controlled) are found behind the 5.2L V8 ZJs. I think '93-'96.5 got the RH and '96.5-'98 got the RE. These transmissions seem to hold up pretty well and there are many that go the distance. I think the 4.0L got the 42RH/RE, but I really don't know too much about that combo of engine/trans to make too many comments on it. Regardless of what transmission it is, they seem to be fairly finnicky about what fluid you dump in them. They call for ATF+2, which has been superseeded by ATF+4. It's a Chrysler spec fluid for a Chrysler transmission. I've seen many recommend changing the fluid and filter every 40K miles. 30K if you tow a lot.
  23. Yes, many have reported an increase in fuel economy after reversal of the PCM de-tune. What I love about these vehicles is that the more bolt-on mods you do, the better fuel economy seems to get. Simple things like a PCM reflash, larger throttle body, intake, and exhaust, fuel economy gets better. That is, if you can keep your foot off the skinny pedal after doing the power-adding mods :D
  24. thanks, only $165 for shipping 4 35lb packages from eht to denver with UPS ground That wouldn't be so bad if you could get the guy down to, say, $100 :D
