  1. linky? http://southjersey.craigslist.org/pts/2101121838.html Interested? I wonder how much shipping would be to CO. Could probably even get those for less than $200. They've been up for a really long time. He doesn't list his area code, but it's most certainly 609. EHT stands for Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
  2. Bad Chrysler! Bad Chrysler! From what I understand, Chrysler issued this as a TSB and led owners to believe that it needed to be done. It was done in response to a large number of owners complaining that their engines required premium fuel and didn't run well on 87 octane. Maybe they should have bought a Grand Cherokee with a 5.2L or 4.0L then? I am relieved to know that any idiot previous owner that put in 87 octane did so with an engine that was tuned to accept its use, at least after 2002.
  3. I think that connector will be in constant contact with gasoline. I'd look into gasoline-safe epoxy's, if they even exist.
  4. way to go on the score you lucky bastid  in the two years...i've only found one...just one...the "spare" There has been a set up for sale near me on CL for months. Started at $400 and I think he's down to $200 now. It's just for rims with no tires, though. If he had tires on them, I would have snatched those up a long time ago.
  5. I'm not sure on how to fix it, but if the ground wire behind the drivers tail light is not connected, your fuel gauge will also not work.
  6. Just found out that my PCM was de-tuned by Chrysler in 2002 to accept the use of 87 octane fuel. They basically screwed with the timing map and made my V8 act like a V6. Time for a custom tune to get the power back that was robbed from me :D
  7. Heh, sorry. I actually accidentally stumbled upon the set on my XJ. I was a couple weeks away from taking a 700+ mile round trip for work and the tread on the stockers were getting on the low side. I was traveling up to NH and it was in the middle of winter so I was expecting plenty of snow. Went on CL and just looked up the first set of Jeep rims with a good amount of tread left on winter or all-season tires. Found a set for $250 for four rims/tires with over 70% tread - no picture. Drove down to the guys place after work and they happened to be from a '98ZJ 5.9L Limited that the guy had. I was excited since I assumed they were the stock XJ steelies or something, but I played it cool, found a small blemish on one of the rims, offered him $200 and he countered with $225 so we settled on that. Loaded them up and had a grin on my face the whole ride back. The irony of the situation was that NH didn't see an ounce of snow when I went up while back home in NJ, we got 12 inches dumped on us. Also, I won't be doing any four-wheel burnouts in my new ZJ any time soon as the PO put new tires all the way around before he sold it. Receipt in the car shows $648 for tires, balance, and mounting roughly 3,000 miles ago.
  8. It has been a while since I've messed with the fuel pump, but I think you are correct in that statement. The black plastic thing that is coming out is a "terminal block", if you will. On the inside of the tank is a wire that runs from the black connector to the pump. You probably can't pull it out anymore because that wire is now fully extended and holding the black clip in place. I'm not even sure if there is a cap on the outside of the connector, like you described, but if there is then that would be the only thing that's supposed to come off.
  9. Fixing the frame, eh? Did you remove the bed? If so, you probably disconnected an essential wire for the fuel pump. As odd as it may sound, the fuel pump ground connection is located behind the drivers tail light. It will be the black wire that is screwed to the bed sheet metal. You can use a jumper wire from the ground on fuel pump itself to somewhere nearby. That's what I had to do to when I had my bed off and needed to move the truck around. Also had to figure out a clever method of holding the fuel tank up...
  10. Congrats on being able to find a new job, especially a full-time one with benefits. I'm not sure how they compensate you for travel time, but if it's the way my office handles it, it could be a bonus in disguise. I get 58.5 cents per mile, which are to cover all cost incurred in using your own vehicle for company business. This includes fuel, insurance, maintenance, and other associated costs with the general upkeep of your car (includes as many car washes that I want and a complete interior/exterior detail if I drive over a certain mileage in a given year). Now, you run the risk of having your car break down and spending lots of money repairing it, but if you're anything like me, you do all of your own work and get your replacement parts from junkyards and are able to keep your vehicles going on the cheap. This year alone, after fuel, insurance, and maintenance costs on my XJ, I made around 4 grand from travel expenses. I use it to add new vehicles to my fleet and maintain the existing ones :D

  12. Got the new trans in Thursday night. Worked from 7PM to 3AM straight and went into work a little late the next day. Something came up where I needed a vehicle Friday night and with my XJ out of commission for the moment, I needed to get the ZJ done. I could always fall back on my MJ, but I had told my friend he could use it to move his stuff into his new apartment in NYC. Things went fairly smooth, but I found a stripped thread on the transmssion case for one of the pan bolts. Luckily, it was a through hole, so i put a slightly smaller bolt in the hole and a nut on top. If I ever drop the pan again, I'll think about putting a helicoil fix for the threads. Fired the truck up around 2:30AM, adjusted the fluid level, and took her for a spin. All seemed to be okay except at light throttle conditions, the truck would search and hunt for gears and seemed very clunky. Pulled it back into the shop and checked the throttle valve cable adjustment going to the trans - too tight. Adjusted it to where it needs to be and shifts like butter now :D This truck is a ton of fun to drive, especially on the highway with the OD turned off - plenty of torque to get the pig going faster from a roll. Going to do a few HP adders (throttle body, intake, exhaust, and maybe a custom tune). Also, gotta love the fact that it requires premium and I got about 14MPG average on my last tank :D
  13. The only thing rarer than an MJ in a junkyard is a YJ.
  14. I would, but that's not the full VIN and through the means I currently have access to (AutoCheck), it wouldn't tell you if it were a Street Comanche or not. You'd need to get the full VIN and have Chrysler run it.
  15. It will no doubt be the best tool in my shop. I just did a transmission swap on a ZJ last week. All four corners of the car on jack stands as high as they could go. Lots of lying on my back reaching for bolts. Lots of contorting my body into different configurations that it was not designed for. Dropping the trans took about 8 hours. Installing it took another 8 hours. I can confidently say I could have finished the entire job in about half the time if I had the vehicle up on a lift. Plus, I would have felt a lot safer going under the truck than with the setup I had, but you gotta work with what you got!
  16. It is sitting in my fathers machine shed under a tarp. His cousin has two of them and installed. He was going to sell it but I told him to hold onto it for me when I finally get a place with the roof clearance for it whenever that may be.
  17. Mostly labor costs involved. They're going to cut out the rear passenger 1/4 panel and weld a new (well, used) one in. Replacing rockers, rear door, front door skin. They not even sure if the rear axle is bent and that's not included in the cost. They're also using parts from a salvage yard rather than brand new parts. I have a .pdf of the quote if I can figure out a way to attach it or link to it.
  18. I've told her numerous times I'd like to buy it back, if possible. I'm not going to press the issue because I really don't NEED it right now, but it'd be nice to park it in the back of my shop and save it for a rainy day. The interior is in good shape and the drivetrain was solid (had 128K when I sold it). I'd like to use it for my 97+ swap so I could get the Classic seats with the different material and adjustable headrests. In fact, this XJ WAS going to be my donor until the family ran into hard times (lost job, main DD broke down) and they needed it more than I did.
  19. I sold a '99XJ Classic to my girlfriend's mother, who then gave it to her youngest daughter to take to college this year. Well, winter came fast and there was some snow/ice on the ground and the vehicle was hit on the rear passenger side pretty hard. Not the fault of my girlfriend's sister so their insurance company is going to take care of it. The vehicle was estimated at $3,800 to fix. A collision company (her words - dunno who or what that is, maybe the body shop?) has valued the vehicle at $5,300. So, we're looking at 72% of the vehicles' value will be spent on repairs. To me, sounds like the insurance company will total it and cut a check to the owner for the value of the car. Now, I've never been in a position where I've ever had to deal with the insurance company so I don't know what kind of advice to give her. Will the insurance company give her a lowball offer for the vehicle or will they give her the valued price of $5,300? Does she have any grounds to negotiate a higher price if she doesn't like the one that is given to her? Will there be an option to buy back the vehicle from the insurance company (ok, this question is for me haha)? Any help, advice, or previous experience with insurance companies would be helpful. I'd like her to get the most out of this car. She bought it from me on the cheap, but did dump some money into it for new tires, a couple new sensors, and other routine maintenance. Thanks!
  20. Goes on the back of your cylinder head for the temperature gauge on the dash panel (or if you got the one with the idiot lights).
  21. I like Pete's option of E. Fly me out there and I'll fix it. Too damn cold here in NJ right now anyway. I'd kill for 40-60 degree temps!
  22. In the spirit of keeping the truck as original as possible, I think they look outstanding. But I like the Ravine style better :D
  23. Thanks for the heads up. I think I'll keep it to PMs. They seem to be easier to keep track of anyway.
  24. I'm guessing it was time for someone to get a new set of rubber :D
  25. I remember my old '89YJ 2.5L that had only a LO and HI for the wipers. LO meant incredibly slow and useless wiper action in heavy rain. HI meant slightly less slow and useless wiper action...
