  1. If its a stock length shaft and you're not lifted, then a stock drive shaft out of an XJ will work so long as its from the same engine/tranny/Tcase set up. But if not, just measure, most of them will work even though the lengths may vary slightly. There's a big thread on this, its a sticky I believe.

  5. Drove it 20 miles at about 100 degrees the other day. I could tell a big difference idling in traffic. Wheeling at low speed on a hot day will be the real test. But its tore apart right now and undrivable. I've got a bad driveline vibe I'm hoping its a u-joint, and there's a sensor or something robbing the engine of power. Trying to figure that out still. I'm going slow getting it done, being a puss actually, I just hate crawling underneath it because the yard is full of these freakin Texas crabgrass stickers.

  9. Yep, I've heard of this happening a lot with any type of adjustable track bar. But mostly because the jam nut was loose or they were bashing on the rig. Just glad he wasn't hurt, a track bar failure at speed can be catastrophic.

  11. I have a RK track bar so I'm just trying to understand what happened completely and rule out the possibles. How much of the threaded portion of the hiem was inside the bar? If you lifted higher than recommended for that particular track bar length and over extended the heim joint then a break is understandable. Also, over-tightening the jam nut can stretch and weaken the threads inside the track bar. I've ran mine for a year, installed it with thread locker and haven't had to tighten it once.
  12. Sorry Don, forgot those... I thought they were fiberglass but they're ABS I believe. I only cut one side with a think grinding disc then trimmed the holes with my trusty benchmade auto opener. I only opened up one of them, the other with the larger opening I left alone.

  14. I'm not a hypocrite. Someone close to me was killed by a drunk driver. The law is too lenient on them. You let an alcoholic drive your rig then you deserve it. Hope all drunk drivers end up in jail for a long time! Not just the weekend, I mean years behind bars, yes if you're too stupid to call a cab then you deserve the max penalty of the law, period. I drink plenty but never behind the wheel. Sorry to seem abrasive but I don't feel sorry for the guy, he was stupid to let that guy drive his XJ. Those fire fighters went a little overboard but I'd be surprised if anything comes of it, nothing should.
  15. If I was on scene I probably would have done something similar if it was a drunk driver BUT NOT IN A JEEP, not much love here for drunks or druggies. :thwak: I probably wouldn't have gone that far though.
  16. Thanks guys. Those are bias ply Maxxis Creepy Crawlers. I run them at 8psi offroad and still can't get a good bulge. Run em at 20 psi on the street. I've tried them at 0 psi and still hardly a bulge and the freakin MJ weighs over 4500lbs. 4ply sidewalls.
  17. Yep, most of the aftermarket companies sell just about any ratio gears, carriers, and lockers for the HP D30. Also, there was a stock 4.56 geared Cherokee, 84-88 I think. IIRC it was the 4cyl with an automatic combo. Rare, I've never seen one in a yard that still had the axles.

  19. IMHO, 4.10s are the minimum and 4.56s or 4.88s would be best for 35s for either daily driving or long distance driving. But at 4.88 and lower, the pinion gets mighty small. I had 3.73s and 33"s a while back and it was a downshift marathon going up mountain roads. I currently have 4.56s and a 4:1 transfer case so the crawl ratio with an AX15 in first gear is close to having 5.89 gears and a standard 2.72 low range transfer case. In regular 2wd I still downshift going up a steep hill on the highway. I think if I still had a standard NP231 then I'd be better off with 4.88s. Still drivable long distance and decent crawl ratio.   20. Installed some Nissan 280ZX hood vents. Yes, they're from a Nissan :( but as long as they work I'll be happy....I put this in the DIY section in case anyone else wants to take part in this tomfoolery. I used some poster board to make a template of what I wanted to cut. These vents have three bolt in them but to use the bolts would have meant leaving about a 1/4" gap between the vents and the hood. They are recessed in a 280ZX. So I made an outline of just the outer lip and everything that hangs below would tuck below hood level. I traced the outer edge of the vent then sorta eyeballed how much of the lip I wanted to be on top of the hood. About 3/4" from the outer edge. This was enough to slightly rotate the vent in the hole to get the angle right before screwing them to the hood. You could cut similar holes and fasten a bracket, just a straight piece of metal, and use the existing bolts to "sandwich" the vent onto the hood but I just used screws, still looks fairly clean if ya ask me. Best to do this during the heat of the day also. Your jeep will respect you more and break down less if it knows you are willing sacrifice your well being for its well being. :smart: I used an angle grinder which doesn't make curved cuts all that well. I only made one template and just flipped it for the other side since the vents are mirrors of each other. Also don't pay attention to my measurements. They are approximately one Iphone length from the rear of the hood and one Iphone length from the center dent/stripe on the hood. I was trying to get them on each side of the valve cover as far as I could without having to cut the hood supports. Done, the hardest part was getting the hood off and back on by myself.

These are smaller than the regular 280 vents and about half the size of Lebaron vents, but I couldn't find either at the JY.   23. Well I saw a Ford Ranger with the same topper at Walmart. Same roof lines and design. It was a Brahma so I guess that's what I've got.
  24. True, when I was a volunteer fire fighter we recorded names of everyone there, including who the senior fire fighter in charge. Its mainly for protection from lawsuits. Everyone has a job, anything done, medical, mechanical extraction or anything, is supervised by qualified personnel or its not done at all. Too many people are suing fire stations these days. I don't think they get the same level of protection against lawsuits that Police officers do.
