  1. Could be? Post up some pics of your lift components so we can see whatcha got. What size 245s do you have? There's almost an inch difference in diameter between 245/70s (29.50") and 245/75s (30.46")assuming a 16" rim. Add an inch for 17"s. http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalcul ... ion=submit Fitting 33s - easy, many ways to skin that cat, but to do it without trimming: In short, you don't. You're crossing the XJ/MJ lift threshold to fit 33s. There's no "squeezing" 33s without trimming unless you go big on the lift- we're talking at least a 6" lift, but probably more. At that height and with 33s, You don't have to cut the fenders but they will rub at full turn and in compression,,,how bad do you want your new tires to be cut up by your fenders? Plus, its a major change to just about every suspension component and suspension geometry. Big $$$ to do correctly unless you're a fabricator and can make your own adjustable tack bar, control arms, drag link/tie rod, rear spring perches and extend your own driveshafts, then you've gotta buy longer brake lines, shocks, and other stuff. Consider thinner tires, they won't rub as much. 10.5" wide 33s won't rub as much as 12.5" 33s. Something else,,,,do you have a D44 or D35 rear axle? If its a D35, I'd stay away from 33s, it'll break. What do you use the truck for? If its just for occasional offroading then you could get away with any gearing, but if you need to drive your truck in town or take longer trips down the highway, the 33s with stock gearing will kill your power and MPGs. Another reason to go with 32" or even 31" tires. Also, be sure to check the actual tire size,,,,a lot of the time, 33s (or any size for that matter) are 33s in name only and could actually be close to an inch larger or smaller depending on the manufacturer. May I offer another option? 31" or 32" tires and at least a rear locker. An XJ/MJ with lockers and 32s will go just about anywhere and get you further down the trail than 33s and no lockers, plus they'll look pretty darn massive compared to 245s. Go through the build pages to see how some the different rigs look with various tire sizes and lifts. FWIW, since you've got a small lift, I'd just go with 31s, throw a Lock-Rite or Aussie locker in the back, and get a winch. You'll be surprised where it'll go without dumping a ton of money on stuff you may not need.
  2. You can only adjust camber by replacing the ball joints. Napa sells joints with different offset angles at .5-2 degrees. Best if you had a shop give you an alignment with a precise measure of your camber. Then you could have them replace the ball joints with the proper offset, or you could go buy them yourself and install. Its possible to just replace the whole axle for less than you'd spend on new ball joints, however, there's no guarantee the new/old axle won't have the same problem. Also, ensure your front axle isn't bent as a result of the accident. If that's the case, then the ball joints won't help much.
  3. Go Rangers!
  4. Did anyone notice the Rose shaped cracks in the passenger side windshield? Or the Dove of Peace distinctly outlined in windshield cracks on the driver's side? I feel so much better when I sit behind the wheel of this Jeep. It does something to me,,,,It magically takes all my troubles away. I'm selling this for no less than 10 Grand!
  5. The video wouldn't play for me.... anyway, here's what that CJ looks like now....gentlemen, if you've never rattle canned a Jeep, I highly suggest you do so. Its a lot of fun. The inside of the tub and tool box is too rusted to deal with.....I'm already doing a frame up on a 51' CJ3A. I'm not going into such depth with this one. But, I did wire wheel the entire outside of the tub, hood, and fenders down to bare metal, primer and rattle can it with a very rare breed of paint that is very hard to come by! You can only find it at every Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot and Ace Hardware in North America - its made by a company called Rustoleum, pronounced: "Reest, ahh', Leeee, Um", I think its French, perhaps a Scandinavian Company - you know those Swiss, they always make good stuff. Good luck finding this rare paint. It comes in a very technically difficult to operate cylindrical applicator that only the purely destitute know how to properly apply. The seats are out of an equally extremely rare - one Isuzu Trooper II. Here are the magnificent results which John the Baptist would shave his beard for:
  6. Don't know why I haven't clicked this till now, but good work, thanks for posting! Works fine for me.
  7. Yeah, seems the older they are the easier they are to work on. But it can get tricky if you're trying to do it right. There's a lot of end play measuring, shimming, etc on the old closed knuckle and tapered shaft axles you don't have to do with newer axles. Also, try finding a Willys flathead valve spring compressor or a hub puller. They're not exactly hanging on the shelf at Auto Zone. Of all the junk I got from him, this tailgate is my fav.
  8. Nice score you lucky dog.
  9. Looks like this is the place: http://www.team-twg.com/en/default.htm
  10. Yeah I found a couple of links talking about old Tulsa 20K and 30K PTO winches. Its hard to believe these straight cut gears could handle that kinda of load. Especially considering the metallurgy of the day.
  11. For sure. I know, but you can only cheat on your first MJ for so long before she gets mad at you. Its like trying to date a Puerto Rican girl and a Cuban girl at the same time. Something bad will eventually happen. I only stopped hoping it had a Dauntless V6 in it....instead it had a 232, the fat girl of Jeep motors.
  12. Yeah for some reason, old CJs with all the farm implements are maxing out my cool meter, almost as much as an MJ. http://www.farmjeep.com/cj5barnfind.html http://www.film.queensu.ca/cj3b/Siblings/Caprio3A.html p.s. Mods, I'm sorry for dirtying up the board with this CJ nonsense. I swear, my first love remains with the MJ.
  13. Well I spotted this old Deer Lease CJ, there's a ton of these ratty Jeeps in TX. I stop to ask about it thinking perhaps there's money in a resale. The owner is a PTSD ridden vet, much like me, albeit from an older generation. So we got along great. I mention I've got a 51' Willys CJ3 I'm trying to get going and I'd really like to stumble on some old Willys stuff, especially a PTO with some attachments.....we haggle on this 74' POS some more and he finally says, "make me an offer on this, and I'll throw in the remaining Willys stuff I've got." but he won't tell me what he's got until I buy the CJ. I offer two bills, he says three, and says "I've got some things you want that I'll throw in." I say "250", he says "that's a deal". So, then we go to the back pasture and look at two different Willys Super Hurricane flathead sixes, one with a T80? and D18, the other has a T90 and D18, two Willys truck frames - a one-ton with a bed, and a bare half ton frame with D44s and 4.88 gears, a box full of 60's NOS Willys brake parts, and two PTOs. One is buried in a trailer and we couldn't find it, the other is pictured below. A Tulsa PTO. Looks like its the style that bolts to the side of a transmission for a front driven PTO, and not the D18 TC driven PTO I was hoping for. We'll see what the other one is tomorrow when I pick everything up. I figure if I can't sell the Willys stuff to Willys fanatics, then I've got well over 250 worth of scrap. The 74' CJ5 is a pasture runner with a great running 232, T14 or 15 tranny, D20, and a 3.73 geared D30 and D44 - easy sell at more than $250 for the drive train alone. Then the PTOs -- I'm hoping they have value......here's the slap me part. I recently had a dream about this guy and his Jeep junk, hard to explain but it happened just as I had dreamed. Plus, these old Jeeps are kinda easy to work on and I'm starting to expand on my Jeep addiction,,,,,so someone please slap me. Life was simple and good when it was limited to MJs, XJs, and ZJs. Anyone know anything about old Tulsa PTOs?
  14. I completely agree. I'm thinking nine ball! Actually I already started looking for a column lever handle but I don't seem to be looking in the right places. If anyone knows a source, let me know. Otherwise, I'll check the junkyards when I get a chance. You could keep it, but then you'd have to pimp out the rest of the truck just to make the 8-ball look good.
  15. First Mod: that 8-ball has gotta go.
  16. I lived being an O-1, I could get away with anything, as an O-4, you can't get away with even the square root of jack crap!
  17. That's great, a PA is nothin' to shake a stick at. Beats the heck outta Infantry, let me tell ya.
  18. Congrats Don! What branch (of the Army) did she go into?
  19. Here's a big yard in Denton, TX some of you may be interested in. Few Jeeps but perhaps some cherry AMC finds. Two MJs under the Misc category, one has a rear bumper. http://www.ctcautoranch.com/Parts%20Car ... neous.html AMCs anyone? Check out the 69' 390 Javelin. http://www.ctcautoranch.com/Cars/Car%20 ... 20AMC.html
  20. The MC should be easy to bolt on and plumb. The booster rod however may not be a bolt in affair. I did this in the DIY section. Lot of ways to skin the MC/Booster cat. IMHO, I don't think you'll need to spend the extra money on special hard lines unless you're doing some heavy duty towing/hauling, which the MJ may not be the best rig to use. You're on track though.
  21. Yeah I'm scouring Texas for an NV3550, tough to come by cheap. Heck, an AX15 can be hard to find.
  22. Pure poetry, the words of an angel. :D
  23. You've got a lot more Jeepin' to do, hang in there buddy!
  24. I'd go with a Dual Diaphragm booster....from a WJ or similar. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=26034&start=0
