Alexia's 1987 To 1997 Comanche

That truck seems pretty clean. A great base to start your build from. Nice looking LJ as well! -
2" lift coils/Metric Tonne leafs
87Warrior replied to xjrev10's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have often wondered about using a set of TJ lift coils for a small MJ lift. Since the stock springs on a XJ/MJ are longer than a stock TJ coil, shouldn't you be able to run a taller lift coil designed for a TJ and net less lift on the MJ. I think a TJ 3" coil should yield about 2" of lift on a MJ. I would really love to run the Currie progressive rate 4" TJ coils on my 92 for about 3" lift. I have never done this, but in theory, it should work. -
Another Comanche ... (gratuitous pic post)

Nice progress. Truck looks darn good. BTW, you had minimal rust  -
What attaches to the fuel return in the tank?
87Warrior replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I must not have inspected the pump assembly very close. Does fuel actually flow through this rubber piece? I searched though some pictures of my 92's pump assembly and it too has this plug. I haven't seen the assembly for a couple of years because it is all boxed up in storage. -
How about a TJ 6-speed and 4.0 in a MJ?
87Warrior replied to fcjunkie's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yup, but you can use the head from an 03-06 4.0 -

Thanks Rocker! I spent the afternoon drilling out the crossmember mount in the frame and on the braces. Unlike my 92, the extra crossmember braces on the 86 are actually welded to the frame. And wouldn't you know it, all of the bolts were snapped. My tools of choice Drill bits -15/64 -9/32 -11/32 A 10-1.50 plug tap (this is the same tap you need for the rear frame bumper brackets) And of course, oil Since the bolts were all snapped, I had to pick up some replacements. I also dropped the rusty fuel tank. The fuel pump was manufactured in March of 85. I think I will go ahead and get a replacement on the way. I am also going to use the tank from my 92 since it is rust free. -
Wow. Citizen helping citizen is certainly not illegal in Kansas. I have been assisted and thanked by several Kansas state troopers and local LEOs alike when assisting another motorist. It is one less headache for them to deal with right after a storm. I never ask for money but will take it if offered. I only request that the person I helped take the time and do the same someday. One late night (1 am) I was headed back to my apartment in Vail, CO (lived there for a year) on the back country roads, coming from Garden City, KS. I came across a family of 4 trying to shovel their Highlander out of a road side snow bank, with skis. I offered to pull 'em out and did so. They thanked me since nobody else had stopped in the 4 hours they were stuck and had no cell phone coverage. I can't believe some states actually make helping a crime. I don't get it.

How about a TJ 6-speed and 4.0 in a MJ?
87Warrior replied to fcjunkie's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Avoid the 05/06 4.0 like the plague. Worn out tooling at Chrysler was used with these motors and they are known to be very troublesome, even if you ignore the OPDGA failures. Not to mention your engine accessories will require custom mounts. The 6 speed replaced the NV3550 Jeep started using in 2000. Using a TJ transfercase will require you to clearance the floor pan a little on your truck. If you want to go this route, check out the numerous 97+ XJ conversions. If you find a 00/01 XJ you can utilize the distributor-less ignition system. Here is a start: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=32505 -
I find myself helping out folks stuck or stranded on the side of the road. It is risky to help due to other idiotic drivers. I plan on installing a strobe system, tucked in the front turn signal housing and the rear tail light housing. ;) The strobes would be inconspicuous and are far more visible than the stock flashers. Keep the pointless, oversized tow truck lights off your truck (my opinion).

Ahh. We are working with our bank directly and the bank alone. They were kind enough to waive our underwritting fee this time around since we had paid it for a loan on the house that had the contract fall through. We are also doing a conventional loan. We put an offer in early last week at 4pm, had a response from the seller within 3 hours. We counteted the following morning and it was accepted within 5 hours. A very different experience than the last time where it would take a week or more to hear anything back. The house is a newer construction 11 miles outside of town in the Flint Hills. Only has 4 acres but one property line in a creek. Lots of room for a shop. It is truly what we were looking for.

I can't believe the poor quality lenders posted here. Our lender has been the smooth sailing part of our home buying process. Had our latest inspection last week. I absolutely loved this inspector. His online website was pure crap, but he was excellent. The last inspector we used had a real professional website but he was not that good. The inspection went well.

Don't you just love it when folks go poking around just to make trouble :fs2: Nice job fixing the problem

1986 MJ 2.5L 4x4 | "Heavy Four"

Finished my center console mount today and got it installed. Yay! Cup holders! This truck is going to have a real comfy interior with a sub-par body :ack: I have positioned the seats as far back as possible. I have much more leg room with the seat all the way back than I ever did with the bench seat. Being 6'3" the bench in the MJ always made me feel cramped. It was nice test fitting these buckets and being able to straighten my legs. -
HID Projector Retrofit | Discussion
87Warrior replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh wow, I missed all of those comments about the link I had posted. I think that guy poorly executed the retrofit. I posted it to explain the clearance needed for the projector housing. I know some high end car have HID fog lights. These require special projectors since typical headlights projectors project light primarily forward, not to the side like a fog pattern. There are several write ups online about retrofitting an HID bulb in an off road housing, like a Hella. I also think HIDs would be way to bright to act as fog lights. I have very little use for a true FOG light. I am always trying to fill in those dark spots on county roads, primarily the ditches next to and way in front of the vehicle. I have two 4" HIDs at the windshield hinges on my TJ. I just used them to get home on a rural road. Spotted three deer in an old corn field that I never would have seen with typical headlights and fog lights. -
I think you have something else bringing down your mileage. Plus, you don't want to spend any money for gears in that 35.....

Congrats and good luck. I admire anybody who wants to make the future better. I have no problems with public schools ;)

At one point I had deemed the seats out of my 99 donor garbage. They were dirty, grimy and were filled with a stagnant cigarette stench. I couldn't even get any local folks who were looking for bucket seats to take them! I brought them home from the farm to try and clean them up. First I hosed the seats with a garden hose. Then I mixed a bucket of HOT dish soap and water then scrubbed the seats with the soapy water mix with a small nylon brush. Rinsed with the garden hose and vacuumed. Repeated the process 2-3 times then let them air dry for a week. These seats are better looking that what is in my Rubi and only smell like fabric. Installed in the truck: Now I need to build the center console mount, spray dye the blue plastic with agate spray, install the carpet and then start wrenching under the hood. :wrench: -
The 75 dollar Comanche, and an introduction....
87Warrior replied to NotMatt's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Very clean truck for $75!!!! I am jealous. Is there any particular reason you want to use the RE joint as opposed to a genuine Johnny Joint? -
I was in my freshman year of college when Facebook was introduced as a meeting point for classmates. It was a great way to find fellow wheelers on campus. It was awesome. Then it went down hill when parents started joining and turned into some social hotspot. I like having the ability to touch base with long time friends, particularly those in the military. It's much easier to have the ability to contact anybody I want without searching for a current phone number, email or address. I don't get the games and fluffy stuff on Facebook. But I do 'like' CC.

My wife loves my MJs because she always knows where I am at if I have any spare time :wrench:

I don't get it? Perhaps it would have been better had I not viewed it on my phone.

Since we are looking to buy in my home town, (a small town) we talk and inquire about the homes for sale. Everybody we talked with indicated the seller was type #2. The house had been on the market for a year before we offered our low-ball offer, so we were skeptic when the seller said he had another offer... We came back with an offer and he accepted. After the inspection we requested the roof ne.repaired and termites be treated. Took two weeks for the seller to reply but he did and agreed. It then took him 2 weeks to get the septic system pumped and tested (KS law), this was already past our agreed on closing date and we suspected he was becoming seller type #1. It failed and took him another 2 weeks to get one bid. It was expensive and we agreed to pay for 1/2 of it. He then.said we had to pay for the entire system and he would only give partial allowance for the termite treatment and roof. WTF? He even tried the old car salesman trick saying if we increased our offer more it would only increase our monthly payment a little bit... We have been going back and forth all week and could not agree. To top it off he drug this out so long, our locked in loan rate expired today.

Congratulations!
