You fellas have never gone car shopping with a lady. It is more of an emotional experience rather than a practical one. The vehicle must look great and require no work. The last time she started looking at SUVs, she liked the new RAV4 because of the tail lights. :???: :hmm: Around here a similarly equipped WK is averaging $3-5k more than a Commander. It sounds like the Hemi is the way to go, but I really would like to test drive one with each motor. I am glad to hear these rigs are not plauged with problems. I guess the next thing to do is go harass a few dealers for a test drive. The more I look at the Commander, the more I like it. We will see what happens.

Not surprising at all, Ryan. Your rig is awesome. 'Super cars' don't interest me one bit.

I am looking for thoughts, comments, personal experience, etc from you guys about the Commander. My wife has decided she wants a 4wd vehicle so she can make the 10 mile trek across the county roads to town when the snow hits. She is also tired of her 02 Camry and wants something newer/nicer to drive. She doesn't like the looks of a WK, the WJ is too old and the XJ/ZJ is out of the question due to age. I am not extremely fond of the Commander, but I have seen a few that looked Sharp and.the wife seems to like them....now to find one in the right color.... As I understand it, the Commander is simply a bigger/heavier WK. It seems they can be had with a V6, 4.7, or Hemi. Is the V6 the same that can be found in the liberty? Is the 4.7 the same found in WJs, durangos, etc? Is the Hemi the same Hemi Chrysler is shoving into all of their vehicles? What should I watch out for? Are there any problematic issues regularly found on these rigs?

:agree: Those sideways pictures really mess with my mind :huh???:

My 03 TJ Rubi I bought in December of 03 with 12k miles on it, and a blown motor with two rods through the oil pan. On my trip to the San Juans this last week, she turned over 120k miles.

Bought mine from AutoZone. These are on the shelf, in store, not behind the parts counter. The box is blue. Year? I used 1995 when searching online. Superior Automotive 2 pcs. rear lowering shackle kit Part Number: 13-4100

Very cool. Thanks for sharing!

Does re-purposing tools count? If I remember right, I was trying to get the intake/exhaust manifolds to line up. This was 10 years ago: *sometime I miss that 4.2 YJ. Then I remember it was a 4.2.... and a YJ :rotfl2: I also have a homemade crankshaft pulley installer at my folks place.

When I was into ATVing 5-10 years ago, I purchased everything from Rocky Mountain ATV. I assume they are still around and still have the best prices.

Is that the RE1600 trackbar or a copy cat of it? Sure looks like it. You should have some missalignment spacers to go on either side of the heim joint. This is to allow the joint to rotate around the heim joint. I had to drill out the frame mount (on my TJ) when installing the RE1600. This is typical. There is a TRE that threads into the trackbar and replaces the heim joint that will quickly wear out and does not need the frame bracket to be drilled out. The part number for this TRE has escaped me now, but searching online should locate it. IIRC, it is a 60's truck TRE.

New Floors/dropping fuel line?
87Warrior replied to lexluthier72's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The fuel lines are held into place with plastic clips that also hold the rear brake lines. Pry all of the clips off the truck and move the lines away from the welding area. I had a buddy offer to weld in ly floors. Once they were in, I think he regretted the offer as it was far more work than he imagined. He was compensated well. -
Help me with AX5 clutch woes
87Warrior replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had wondered about converting the bell. The shape was right, but I didn't want to fuss with it. I did get everything working. I bought the bell and fork from a 95 XJ, new slave/master/plastic hydraulic line from NAPA, and a new throwout (release) bearing from the dealer. The clutch has a great feel to it, just like my TJ. -
Yep, that's it. Chocolate Thunder.

That was legit Brett and good stuff. Not just a bunch of posers in a parking lot. I really enjoyed watching the live stream of the KOH. I can't recall the name of the obstacle, but at one point during the race it did look like a parking lot and rigs were driving over rigs in order to keep moving.

Reminds me of the KOH race earlier this year

Thanks. It turned out much better than I expected. It really does look factory and the door panels/sill guards are doing great even with my feet getting drug in and out of the truck. Now I just need to clean the rest of the dash  I had big hopes of getting the truck registered and licenced today, but our insurance lady is out of town until Wednesday. Dang the luck. I am ready to let the 2.5L horses run down interstate :rotfl2: I was browsing through several weeks of Facebook updates this evening (who has the time to keep up with that???) and stumbled across a picture my wife took around 1AM when a buddy and myself were installing the transmission. I thought it looked pretty cool, so I am sharing it here: Why is it that the later it gets, the more crap accumulates on the floor? -
Project Comoche (Ca-moe-chee)
87Warrior replied to BryGuy's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I would cut out the rotted sections of frame, treat with the POR cleaners, apply POR 15, weld in new sections.of.frame, then redo the POR. Just get a flexible wand for your paint gun to shove in the frame to apply the POR 15. -
I have always liked red Jeeps with gray interior, so that is the treatment my 92 is getting. Luckily that is also the color combo it came with from the factory. As you know, I have been converting the Old Man Pants blue in the 86 to black. I am not doing it because I hate the blue, but because the blue was faded and stained beyond cleaning.

Jim, We expect to see a lot of 'Right side up" photos of this truck's progress

I bought these from Skinny Pedal a few years back. I have no idea if he still sells them or not. The 'kit' included two IPF housings and a VVME H4 HID kit. I speculate you can find everything on e-bay or amazon. The dreaded Medium Blue keeps disappearing! I did not like the excessive forward rake the truck had once I pulled the topper, so I installed the 1/2" isolators that came with the coil spacers. Pulled the plastic bedliner today as well. I am pretty sure it has been in the bed since the truck was new. The paint underneath still had a metallic sheen to it, LIKE NEW! No picture of the bed floor :thwak: I found my old Unidien 520 XL CB and took the antenna/mount my father removed from his Rubi then went to Radio Shack and picked up 20' of antenna cable. Why 20' for the tiny MJ? Less tuning required to make the SWR meter happy. I hope to get it installed this week. -
Welcome to the club Kate. That is one fine truck you have. Sounds like you will fit in quite nicely around here with your collection

Motor and transmission bolts and hardware
87Warrior replied to codymanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If the bolt is a standard size, you can look through the factory parts manual to get the bolt size. Then go to your hardware store or bolt supplier and pick up what you need. -
Yep. They have been and continue to be a fantastic bulb. Of course they have yellowed a bit in 4 years, but that is to be expected.

I got the carpet pretty darn close to perfect, seats installed and the center console installed. Then the dog jumped in the bed and wanted to go for a ride. So we did a 15 mile loop on the gravel roads out here. The truck ran great. Driving this 2.5 kind of reminds me of driving my old 4.2 YJ with 3.07 gears. Then I upgraded the headlights. IPF Housings and 55w H4 HID kit Installed the driver side ballast: And the passenger side ballast and the HID relay box: HID bulb fitted into IPF housing: Testing: Light pattern:
