View this site: http://bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the Springs area, only the High Country :brows: If you have time, try to get over to the San Juans, Ouray, and stay a night or two. The best of what CO has to offer is in this area. In mid-late June 2008 I tried exploring some of the service trails around Vail. I was owned by snow. It just takes one, un-blasted through drift to ruin your day. If you happen to take I70 through KS, I could wheel with ya around the Manhattan area :dunno:

Rear soundbar + Fabricating headliner
87Warrior replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Negative. Was considering the possibility of integrating the soundbar/headliner in the MJ. But as you already know, its a bad idea that won't work ;) -
It just slightly bothered me that the humans were all depicted as Americans. 1/2 of the world dislikes us as it is as this simple depiction could add fuel to the fire. Political propaganda? Maybe, but I figure it was just easier. There is a substantial amount of character development, most specifically the lead. won't go into it much so there is nothing spoiled to others. Why is that? Truth be told, I was not looking forward to the movie as I had absolutely no desire to see it. Went in with an open mind, dreading 3 hours in a theater seat, and was blown away. I only noticed 3 people get up and leave the jam packed theater while the movie was playing. 2 of witch were a father and son sitting beside us. Maybe you could find a version online to "preview".

I saw Avatar this past weekend with the girlfriend. We did the matinee because of the additional cost for 3D stuff. I give it an honest 9.7/10. The movie was original and powerful. Excellent graphics and 3d display. This was the first 3d film I had seen in about 15 years (the last time was @ Disney World watching some ghost busters thing). Once the 3d advertisements were over, I was well adjusted to the new viewing experience and left without a headache. Typically I am not a fan of futuristic or far fetched plots. Avatar was both of these but was successful at drawing me in through its down to earth basis. This movie was by far the BEST movie I have seen in years, granted I am far from a movie buff :rotf: It could be a 10/10, but: -0.1 for the uncomfortable 3d glasses -0.1 for using US Military uniforms -0.1 for being somewhat predictable I would really like to see Avatar in IMAX 3D. Researching the possibilities  What is your take on the movie?

As I understand it, all MJ's share the same "feet" that bolt to the floor. So it should bolt in. I'll even throw in the middle seat belt stuff. No idea how to ship something of this magnitude, but I will look into it :typing:

I have one journey left for my bench seat, to the barn where the truck will be torn apart. You can have it for all I care. Give me just over a week. It is a gray '92 bench with head rest. Bottom seat cushion needs some help. It is dirty now with a piece of the pleather tearing on the driver side. Slider mechanism works but is a little stiff (probably needs lubed). Located in east central KS.

my 88...job well done with new engine...poker night...?

Nice work getting her back on the road -
:clapping: I particularly liked this.

If you want to see numerous accident, move to the Colorado High Country. I was only there for 8 months (4 winter) and witnessed nearly a dozen rollovers just on my 15 minute trek to work in the mornings. By my calculations, these vehicles are the most likely to roll, so keep a close eye out for 'em: #1 Big pickup trucks #2 SUVs #3 Subarus

My resolution is to eat a little healthier and use less insulin, unless it revolves around potatoes I resolve to get the Comanche painted and moving under her donor XJ power!
-
That is about how it looks on our property, but with more drifts. Had to use the front end loaded to clear a path to the barn where the donor XJ rests. Forecasting more blowing snow this week. Yay...

Rear soundbar + Fabricating headliner
87Warrior replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I figured as much. I am 6'3" and will be mounting some bucket seats lower than factory for space. -
Today I dropped the headliner out of the 99 donor today and got to thinking. Would installing the factory style sound bar from an XJ improve the audio experience in the MJ? It would be sandwiched in the back of the cab above the head rests. I am by no means an audio guru, so I am not sure what affect there would be in moving the lower b-pillar speakers above your head, in a slightly forward facing direction. Now, say there is clearance to do this AND it would create a pleasant audio experience. The soundbar is molded into the headliner. (I know some models had separate soundbars, I am working with what I have) How hard would it be, or what steps would need to be taken, to cut the rear of the XJ headliner and mate it with the front, then recover?

Spray on Bedliner-Carpet Replacement?
87Warrior replied to jeeplover88's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Bedliner is neither a rust stopper or preventer. Be sure to treat the floor with something like POR15 or Rust Bullet, before your spray the bedliner. You will notice increased noise/heat. I sprayed U-Pol Raptor in the bed of my truck. I think it would work great inside the cab too. My plan is: POR15, Raptor, Carpet with no insulation pad (I like carpet). Some liners leave a really rough texture that traps dirt and grime for ever....* cough*Herculiner* cough* The Raptor is smooth and could easily be cleaned. -
WJ KNuckle and brake swap.
87Warrior replied to pingpong's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
WJ's use a dual piston brake caliper and a larger rotor (IIRC). In order to get the dual piston caliper bolted up it must be mated with he WJ knuckles. The WJ's D30 ends were changed some when compared to the MJ/XJ/TJ D30 thus requiring some modifications to get it to fit right. The factory D30 on our MJ/XJ/TJ's have inherent design problems that become really prevalent when running bigger than stock tires. The knuckles wearing down and pad flex are the two big problems I understand the factory system to have. Perhaps not as much of a problem on our MJ's with the weak power booster. You can log onto just about any Jeep forum, search "brakes", and come up with 'mr.blaine' and vanco discussions. Enough reading for all eternity I think  Using the WJ knuckles and brakes give more stopping power than any off the shelf rotor or pad kit can, and theoretically should be cheaper than going with the Vanco big brake kit. -
No problem bud. Good luck in your search.

WJ KNuckle and brake swap.
87Warrior replied to pingpong's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I went the easy way and bought the Vanco 16" kit for my TJ :rotf: It seems that once you get the knuckles all buttoned together, your biggest problem is proper tracbar geometry. I will keep an eye out on your progress as I would like to do something for the MJ in the future. Makes me wonder what kind of work would be needed to swap in the D30 from a WJ :dunno: -
Looks like 12" lip-to-lip
-
I know we have 4 of these, somewhere. Might take some time to locate them all if you happen to want them. They are brand new from the mid 80's. Image Not Found

Welcome to the clu.....er, madness. If you are going to swap a 4.0 into a truck, 87-92 would be your best bet as the 86 requires some firewall modifications :ack:

92 MJ, 13 months to make magic
87Warrior replied to case5412's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
No reason to get a professional clear coat on a rattle can paint job. Those cans of clear should do you good. Clear will help keep the truck sparkling and keep it from staining. -

Painting in the dining room? Good climate control! I would suggest looking into a clear coat after it in painted. Will help retain some shine and prevent fading. Also, pick up some of those trigger spray can attachments. Should save your finger when painting the big sections. Looks great! God bless your wife. Let her know that comancheclub sends their best. -
I need those something fierce, but don't do e-bay. Any chance you'd cut the auction early if I paypal'ed you a certain amount of $$?
